The movie and music award shows for the most are for the American audience and mostly for white Americans. The music shows though are stronger in diversity. If there is to be an international award show, give the leadership to people from outside the US, then you will see more diversity.
I am 100% White American, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love people from all over the World or want to now and learn about them. With Movies and Music, not mater the language should be United and offered to everyone to watch and listen. I used to be one of those people who disliked subtitles, but now I can see how wrong I was, missed out on so much, but thankfully I have been finding the Movies and Music to enjoy, now when a subtitle movie comes on TCM I watch them, yes I admit and give full credit to BTS for the change in my old age of 52, wish that back in 2013 I would have found BTS and not been with them from the beginning, I know I would have loved them as I do now, so yes I started by learning Korean Culture, V Taehyung being in Hwarang was the 1st movie I ever watched, fell in love with Park Seojoon’s character and then started watching K Dramas he was in, then found more Korean Actors I liked which then hooked me to k Drama, then along comes Parasite, best movie I’ve seen, never did I see the twist coming then due to Covid 19 being locked in my home, meet a Producer who worked with Jeongguk of BTS, such a great guy, he connected with many ARMY’s and became a life saver, started a watch party where someone would stream movies for all of us to watch and chat with about the movie, kept so many of us sane during the height of covid 19, so this is where I saw and feel in love with director Bong Joon Ho we watched all of his movies which were great, also kind of funny watching during a pandemic, movies that were caused by a pandemic type of situation almost.🤣🤣 So sorry to go thru such a long story, back to the issue, Hollywood but also the American Music Industry that discriminates foreign pictures and music, I don’t think award shows should be for only one specific race, it should all be United as one, are they afraid say Asians may have better Actors or Movies, Better Music ? I’m beginning to wonder this since I’m American who thank god was raised color and gender identity blind with an open mind to explore new things, at the moment it’s Asia, more specifically South Korea, eating foods I would never thought I’d enjoy so much being a picky eater. Oops of subject again sorry. I think award shows should accept and welcome everyone and hope that everyone would open their minds to new things, even if you don’t know the language
