"Load..push" will be my new mantra anytime I'm at the net. I'll work on it when next I'm on the courts! It seems like this mentality works with groundstrokes as well.
Summary 1. Turn with shoulders not with arms 2. Hands supported by shoulders and legs, using bodyweight 3. A faster ready position 4. Shoulders in line with the intended direction of the volley 5. Shift bodyweight in the intended volley direction using legs 6. Open or close the racket face depending on the height of contact with reference to the net
Beautiful video! Finally a simple & easy to understand information on the volley! This is what I’ve been missing on volleys the whole time! Had no idea what to do, but I just keep swinging at the ball, but I knew that wasn’t how it’s supposed to be bc I get so many errors like you said.
terima kasih Pak Pelatih, atas pelajaran tehnik bermain Tennis yang yang sangat berguna, kalau untuk Latihan fisik bagi pemain tennis, latihan seperti apa ya pak pelatih?
Great video. Man its windy out there. Can you do a video on how to best serve on windy day ? What kind of adjustment should you make to still serve effectively on very windy day like you have in the video ? Thank you
nice lesson Kevin . To begginers i teach it according to MTM to simplify to begginers. keep your arms in front while waiting for the ball, find the ball with your hand pull the raquet to the inside (left on the forehand and right on the backhand) on the backhand point the butt of the raquet at the ball. when you eliminate all the other factors (such as turning your shoulders , footwork, etc.) you get results faster . Although everything you said is absolutely right ! but I tell them to focus on their hands and point of contact and finish for quicker results. Thanks for the video!
Hi Kevin, I recently found you and your contents are great ! I make more mistakes when the ball is slow on a match. Is that a mind set? Waiting for some advice. Thanks in advance!
Outside leg is the key all good e crept the essential element of keeping the shoulder non hitting one as stable.to me that is the most important element
I played this morning and one of my opponents was crushing shots from the baseline, and I just could not handle them well at all. I'm going to work on these turns at home before I play again, and I bet they help. Thanks!
Your shoulders will never turn quicker the just your arm, especially in this frenzy. There are three phases to a follow (1) the set. The set is accomplished with a wrist bend in a forward direction. The racket then can come to a stop, braced to receive the ball. This is all that is needed to handle power. If the action is frenetic but not hard balls, then a forward push can be accomplished without any loading back. This way you get to the front side of impact, the most important component of the push (2) a little bit more time? Still load forward to a stopped position. As you do this, there be a bit of a back load, enabling a more powerful push through the ball (3) Loads of time? Same load to a stopped racket. Get the weight completely on the back foot lifting the front foot in the air. You can even cross over the front foot. The pull the shoulders and hips with the crossed over leg. Big power volley. The key - STOP THE RACKET ON THE SET. This way you are receiving the ball, not snapping back and snapping forward. The stop racket enables absorption and accuracy. Most players will improve 75% merely by learning to stop the racket and receiving the ball, blocking it in the desired direction.
I think this is geared to 4.0 mid to low range NTRP. 4.5 NTRP balls come much faster than this and the margin of error between long, deep floating and deep with pace is razor thin. Reaxtion times are probably 2 tenths of a second. How do you get to that level from low 4.0 level?
I wish you were my coach, Kevin! I really appreciate your positive attitude, it’s like (Ryan Reidy says), “Hey, you got this!” Okay, I wish you AND Ryan Reidy were my coaches, heh-heh. But seriously (folks), do you think you could coach someone in a wheelchair? No no, you can stay standing, I mean... OH, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN! I am aware that there are some major differences, but at the end of the day (or hell, regardless of the hour), it’s all about what happens when the ball meets the racket. (Mr. Ball, meet Mr. Racket!) My biggest problem is, when I was nine and I wanted this pony, see... My biggest problem is I can’t stay focused. On the court, as well as in the comment section. I am a nervous, high-strung tennis player. I overthink and overreact, I under prepare and can’t relax on court. I’m one of those guys who hits a mean ball in practice (resisting temptation to joke), but once the chair says “play”(a talking chair!), like Patsy Cline sings, I fall to pieces! I need to be able to calm myself and stay focused, to track the ball well, stay relaxed eand play the game the way I know that I can. That’s all I ask. Short of (re)reading Inner Tennis and/or entering a zen monastery to resume my meditation practice, is there anything you can suggest to help with my jangling nerves, my jittery eyes and my sweaty palms? I mean, it’s not like I’m asking Pamela Sue Anderson out on (yet another) date! P. S. I know “Sue” was a philosophy professor at Oxfords. How she looked in swimwear is unknown and irrelevant, to my tennis game, at least, and my marriage. For SURE. I can be reachz
Good content, but I think a lot of you guys talk too much and demo too little. I'd rather see 11 minutes of you hitting volleys, full speed and slow motion, and then just having a voice over.
I've been struggling with the cross stpes...finally solved my problem...
Thanks!!!
"Load..push" will be my new mantra anytime I'm at the net. I'll work on it when next I'm on the courts! It seems like this mentality works with groundstrokes as well.
He always makes videos providing me the fundamentals of tennis strokes. Thanks a lot!
Turning shoulders is the key, thanks, you have a good body for tuning and the mouth coming out words without breathing.
Summary
1. Turn with shoulders not with arms
2. Hands supported by shoulders and legs, using bodyweight
3. A faster ready position
4. Shoulders in line with the intended direction of the volley
5. Shift bodyweight in the intended volley direction using legs
6. Open or close the racket face depending on the height of contact with reference to the net
Thanks Kevin. You should have a lot more subs. Your content is good and well presented.
Love your videos! Nice touches of your sense of humor which keep it engaging haha

Great content, Kevin!
great stuff ... you should also put your transitional link video in the description 'cos YT doesn't always have a link on the screen
I got it but for newer player maybe you demonstrate how the grip change and how open the racket is.
nice lesson Kevin .

@@joed7331 Modern Tennis Methodology.
A way of playing/teaching made by Oscar Wegner.
Excellent -Thanks
Wow, so efficient volley tech. I've learned a lot. I feel I just improved my volley level from 3.5 to 4.0 just through watching this video.
amazing

nice explanation
very nice
Another great video Kevin! Man I wish I could play like you! You need to clone yourself cause I really could use you here in Portland. OR!!@
Unrelated, but are you using the MP or the PRO? Just curious. Great videos and content, thanks Kevin!
Hey, great video! Quick question, what racket are you using?
Fantastic
Sometimes? Sometimes??? Always. Great tips.. thanks.
Couldn’t you hold your wrist with your hand for the same affect as tying them?
Great
what is the grip for volley?
great tips. turn your body. thank you.

Excellent Kevin👏
What do you do for very fast balls coming straight towards your face?!
I played this morning and one of my opponents was crushing shots from the baseline, and I just could not handle them well at all. I'm going to work on these turns at home before I play again, and I bet they help. Thanks!
You da man
Best intro 😂
I tried your technique of holding the racquet. But when a fast hit ball is directly coming at your body...Its kind of difficult to fend it away....
saya hoby tenis tapi saya main tenisnya amatiran dan pemula.
Turning from the hips to turn the shoulder.

Great topic. It’s hard to not hit it all the way back to the baseline, or past it. The other issue is framing the ball and it never goes over.
