I never sell stuff on eBay but ended up with Ferrari spark plug wires for some random model made in the late 80’s and put them on eBay because I had no other real option. Well I forgot out it and like 8 months later get an email they were sold and at point wasn’t even sure where they were… but for $700 I sure looked and eventually found them. I got them for free so was pretty happy about the $700 but then I leaned about eBay fees….
And 15-20% of that goes to seller fees on eBay.
Agreed. The best way to sell it would be on Facebook marketplace for roughly half of MSRP. Downside is, could take 2 years to sell.

It's usually a miss when you factor in your time and labor.
A good lesson for kids out there. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If all that stuff was so valuable, the person who sold it wouldHave pieced it out and made the money. Sometimes brand new parts aren’t worth anything because Nobody needs them. Some parts simply don’t wear out or get damaged in crashes.
unless you have a youtube channel with nearly 2 million subscribers. They should really factor in the $$ in revenue generated from the videos in this series to put up factual numbers!
It's not even that it isn't "valuable". The thing about these pallets is that they are like trading card packs. Will there be something decent if you buy enough and dig for it? Sure. Is all of the stuff worth "something" at minimum? Sure. The issue is actually in the storage and labor hours that comes with actually attempting to piece these things out without running a pawn shop yourself. It's the same reason why many companies don't even actually process returned items back into their inventory, because it takes actual man-hours to figure out what is still sellable and to put them back into the sales flow.
I sell stuff on Mercari all the time... people underestimate how long it takes to do all the photos.. sometimes that stuff takes 20-30 minutes per item...
Why do you think you see so much trash pictures on the private sellers all over Internet… They don't care to make the pictures look even decent, some of the time.
Don't look at it so much as losing $40,000. Think of it as a field test of the your in house six million dollar man's (Craig) newly discovered ability; 'Helmet freshness sniffing detection system'. In the wild world of Motocycles, that incredible skill is bound to come in handy. Could even save your life!

Did you account for the eBay listing/sold fees and shipping costs? Those will take a huge chunk out of your return. eBay has upped their sold listing fees to the point its not worth selling on there anymore.
It was too expensive the last time I sold there 8 years ago, I can only imagine what it's like now.
I have been a full time professional ebay seller for about 20 years now. Its not as easy as it looks. Stuff doesnt sell if it isnt listed right and at the right price. You need to understand how much it costs to ship, and have packaging available. Doing what these guys are doing is a bad idea unless you are prepared.

I think this sums up why SRK as a dealer went bust. Sean buys things, bikes and in this case parts, with no understanding of what they will sell for realistically. You cannot determine what amount to buy something for if you don't know what it will sell for. It's obvious this stuff was bundled together and sold in bulk because no one wanted to buy the items for retail
You didn't really think you were gonna get close to MSRP for that stuff did you? You'll need to ask half MSRP to get buyers on Ebay. I'd never pay close to retail from a random ebay seller when I can buy it from Cycle Gear.
It always bugged me on Storage Wars when they were digging through a dirty locker saying "100 bucks all day long on these..." like it was money in the bank.
Not to mention the factor of overhead costs like shipping, storage, wages, and so on…..

You're forgetting to count the stuff you're keeping for yourself as profit.

FRST . Unclaimed motorcycle parts ? WTF ? Are those returns or something ,cause i do not know and do not want to now a person who would order parts and then return them .
SECOND . If these are returns what made you think that you can make money on them ? If people saw them then ordered them and returned them why would anyone else want them !?

So the problems are
1. you paid people to list the items
2. you kept a bunch of items
3. you only listed on a couple of places and one of them takes seller fees
4. you only listed for 2 weeks
I bet you could easily sell all that ducati stuff on forums or facebook groups for a good price.

Why not use Facebook market place? Utilize the groups/forums on there. I have had a ton of success on there.
You’re also forgetting the most important thing, you’ll be taxed from eBay at the end of the year for selling 10k worth of sales lol
It’s quite expensive with fees to list and sell on ebay, I sell my stuff on specific user Facebook groups as there are no fees.
I doubt Ducati dealers will want to buy stuff for stock, as they mainly ply stock service stuff that sells regularly.
I hate to suggest the obvious, but since the bulk of the parts are Ducati; post them in the for sale section of a Ducati forum. Good luck

AAANNNDDD, eBay is a business so of course they take 12%-18% of your final sale. Not to mention you covered shipping costs and packaging materials and labor to print, pack, ship each item.
In a couple weeks let us know if you even actually broke even or if the pallets were a loss. I’m leaning towards the idea you paid $9000 for $3,425 worth of stuff you kept. 😢

Sean, I love you, but may I direct you to 11:34 of the video, where you say "We kept $3400 for ourselves". That would be the stuff that would sell. There's a reason you didn't want any more of the stuff. It's because it's stuff that nobody wants.

And don't forget the eBay fees - these pallets are for sale for a reason, to feel like suckers. In today's market never pay more than 2-3% on the MSRP price and certainly don't count your chickens before they hatch. Everyone is looking to make a buck, never ever fall for these pallets again.

I happened upon a Highway Bike Patrol riding competition in Daytona. There was a huge "tight maneuvers" coarse set up and those guys would drag their bikes around every corner. It was wild and they were ripping through that thing.

This is how stock works. You don't see the profit immediately. Wholesale pallets like this are bought as stock to be sold on eBay, and other outlets.
The prospect of easy money is definitely seductive - the reality is usually much less appealing. But hey A+ for thinking outside the box and the effort you put into it undoubtedly brought you and your team much closer together... Cheers!

Hilariously understood this... When I left the bus company, they were throwing out thousands of dollars in cummins and international parts. I refused to see them trashed so a skid worth an estimated 30k sat in my shop for 2 years, and yes everyone I offered them to, seemed to think they were stolen and wouldn't touch them. I ended keeping the few parts Id eventually have a use for and scrapped the rest.

What about searching the model of bike the parts are for, bog stock examples that aren't selling fast. Offer the seller the parts cheap so their bike can be advertised again with mods and have better impact and might pop more? Makes sense to me. Especially the Ducati Monster stuff.
Also, join a load of fb groups for those model of bikes and stick posts up on there. Stuff always sells on the groups I'm part of, you might need to do a couple of non sale posts before you can advertise tho. Group rules etc. Differs between groups... but this lands your parts under the nose of exactly the right consumer. I bet that would be worth the effort and get quick sales and best price.
