This song was killer, loved the instrumentals, the lyrics, the overall structure, all of it. Can’t believe I hadn’t heard this before, I’ve got to explore more Metallica, what would you guys recommend next? 😁🔥🤟🏻
My first concert was Bad Company at the Metro Arena Newcastle upon tyne UK. Just a couple of years ago because when I was younger I didn't make enough money. So my wife Linda knew I like Bad Company so we both went and man they were fantastic. Paul Rodgers vocals was amazing. Can't get enough was spot on Shooting Star was the best. Stay lucky stay safe Mike UK.
Andy, if you guys want to check out Phish. A good starting point would be the songs Moma Dance, and Free from Phish live in Brooklyn. The songs segway right into one another. I can send a link to the videos if you cant find them. You won't regret it. Have a great day gentleman, and keep the videos coming.👍
What sets Metallica apart from other metal bands is the quality of their songwriting and emotional musicality. Cliff, their late bassist, was classically trained and a killer writer of melody. Their instrumental 'Orion' is a straight up masterpiece of musical composition. You could also check out 'Fade to Black' for a slower ballad-style piece, or look to 'One' for one of their most iconic songs ever
Good to hear this song again. I was never a big fan of this band, but their first three albums were excellent. I saw them live on the Mater of Puppets tour and they were fantastic. What they done after that left me cold.
That was a lot of fun to watch you two. It felt like Andy left the room for a while and was completely off in the music. And seeing Alex smile about 5 seconds before the solo was great, because he knew Kirk was about to go off! You had to hear this song, Andy. There are great songs and there are seminal songs, songs that are so unique and so damn good that they're part of a band's identity. Like Stairway To Heaven, Yes's Roundabout and Bohemian Rhapsody. You gotta hear them to get a feel for the band. And that's Master of Puppets. This song will never grow old.
Agreed👌🏻 and yea sometimes you hit that rhythm in a new song and it takes you places. We actually just did a video (I won’t spoil it) but it has me in the same leaving the building place that Andy was in. Thanks for your comment
Very cool! My first big concert was at Castle Donington (Donington Park, UK) also 1987, I was only 16 years old.. Bon Jovi - Dio -Metallica - Anthrax - W.A.S.P. - Cinderella -The Bailey Brothers (DJs) It was an amazing experience and one that will always stay with me, Master of Puppets/Garage days set from Metallica, Among the Living from Anthrax and an incredible stage show from WASP. The crowd was pretty divided with half glam/half thrash. They naturally separated in the crowd, glam on on side, thrash on the other and launched plastic bottles full of piss at each other for most of the day ;)
@@JayAldred Cool, I was 14 and it was pretty next level for me at the time. I saw wasp a few years later on the headless children tour. They put on a good show. Its cool to see the next generation getting into our old school metal. Watching these reactions takes me back to when I first hear these bands too.
And the dude on the left looks like some dude I went to high school with that I paid 5 bucks to do my homework but I never paid him. Oh wait, I did pay him, I took his lunch money and paid him with that
I seen them in 89 and when they played this song I thought the place was going to explode from the raw energy in the crowd. Freaking amazing to experience.
I have an idea for you, Andy and Alex! You like Queen AND you like Metallica? Do a “two-fer” reaction... 2 song tracks back-to-back: 1) Queen: Stone Cold Crazy THEN 2) Metallica: Stone Cold Crazy (their cover of YEP, Queen’s song!)
Another good one ”Sabbra Cadabra”, both original by Black Sabbath and Metallica’s cover. You know which one I prefer, but that would make a nice back-to-back too.
I love how the middle interlude part takes you to the high of getting your hit then down to a slow hammering grind once that hit wears off and you're fiending for the next one, just musically compliments lyrical theme.
First concert that I ever went to was in 1974 at the Cow Palace in SF..... the Allman Brothers, with Marshal Tucker Band & the Outlaws. We caught a ride to the show from my sisters boy friend, and after, we had the balls to hitch hike back to Napa Valley in North Cal....it took 5 plus hours... to get back home all told. What a great show and an AWESOME memory. Just so you know, I'm an old dude ;) but still rockin'
My first concert was Led Zeppelin 1977 in the Seattle Kingdome. It was one of the last American concerts for them. Always have loved LZ and still listen to them to this day.
Hey guys. Been really digging your channel! My first concert was Chicago with the Beach Boys. I was (still am) a HUGE Chicago fan and getting to watch them do "25 or 6 to 4" with Terry Kath playing guitar is one my all time concert highlights. Peace and love, brothers.
This is a song that shows that one of their influences was actually early Queen. They covered the Queen song "Stone Cold Crazy" & James Hetfield performed with John, Brian & Roger at the tribute for Freddie in 1992.
It's a short song so you could do both album version and live version. Most people will say do the one at the Rainbow, but I like the Houston version because they are crazier and more raw.
Dude, great video. The song is about drug addiction - how the drug is your master and you are the puppet. Your desire for drugs is the only thing that matters. You know it will kill you but you look for it anyway. The slow interlude in the middle is representing the lull that heroin gives, your withdrawal from society. Then as the music picks up, you’re searching for more. It’s one of the greatest songs ever. Glad you found it and I can’t wait to watch your reactions to more Metallica and other great bands.
Metallica are just the greatest band ever purely from their first four albums. I love Megadeth when they peak (Rust in Peace) and Guns n Roses Appetite for Destruction is class too but Metallica have four albums where every song is good and most are great.
I just discovered your reaction channel, guys. Great job so far. My first concert was in 1981 when I was 14. Iron Maiden (mostly unknown in the U.S. at the time) opening for Judas Priest. this was posted on my birthday how cool was it was Metallica's best ,my first concert was a Canadian band called Honeymoon Suite who 33 yrs later is still my favorite music artist from my home country also seen Metallica in '89 n '91 in my city in Atlantic Canada which is impressive lol
Metallica is flawless, especially in their first 6 albums. I love seeing the younger generation experience it for the first time, reminds me of how we felt when these albums were first coming out, or when their demo was floating around.
Great video!!! it reminds me of driving around back in high school with my friend James in his old Mustang, listening to this on cassette!!! We listened to it so much, we wore off the writing and it was bone white! For something a bit more gritty, try "Harvester of Sorrow" You won't be disappointed!!!
I’m a true longtime fan of Metallica. I favor their older work the best so I would focus on their first 3-4 albums. However, they’ve definitely put out some gems since those days, including Hero For A Day. (I will include a link at the bottom to that song performed live back when it was released and James Hetfield’s voice is perfection even live). Here’s the list I recommend from the first 4 albums: Motorbreath, Seek & Destroy, Fight Fire With Fire, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Fade To Black, Creeping Death, The Call of Ktulu, Battery, Disposable Heroes, Orion, The Shortest Straw, Harvester of Sorrow. Out of all of those, Battery is one their hardest/fastest and it’s great. Creeping Death is kick ass. Fade To Black is a true work of art and has one of my favorite guitar solos of all time (the outro too!) and, last but not least, Orion is an instrumental masterpiece! Metallica is an amazing band, each of its members truly talented. I hope you grow to enjoy Metallica as much as I have over the years. Thanks to both of you for doing GREAT reactions! Keep it up. Metallica - Hero of the day Live Barcelona '96 th-cam.com/video/U-QFZKEZ9fI/w-d-xo.html
My first concert was Rush/Styx in Seattle. Although I thought Rush was awesome I had the feeling was working harder for the fans. I think it was the first tour with Tommy Shaw, who learned all of Styx's songs in a week, he and JY's guitar work must have sped up my pulse rate to double. Check out Styx's Witch Wolf, Suit Madame Blue, or Man of Miracles. You won't be sorry on any or all of them!
Metallica has two guitar players. The singer, James Hetfield, usually plays rhythm guitar and writes most of the riffs, but also takes a solo now and then. This song is one where he does take a solo, and the first solo you hear during the slower part of the song is him. Later, the faster solo when the song gets fast again is Kirk Hammett. He’s the usual lead guitar player in the band, and so most solos you hear are by him.
Yeah you fixed the sound, good work! 😊 I used to LOVE the Metallica guitar hero, awesome cranking the volume and feeling like you were playing through a Metallica concert! I always liked Nothing Else Matters, bit of a slow one though.
Not sure if you're aware or have been told prior to this post but, the music is also the roller coaster ride you go on while you're an addict. The Beginning of the song ( the crave)… the light instrumental is ( the euphoric feeling while on it) the ending (the crash and craving all over again)...well written and well arranged musically .
ha, when the switch up happened, he looked over and his face was sayin, "bro, just wait!" priceless man! glad to see young ppl discovering this amazingggg music, metallica live is an otherworldly experience! they are supposed to be doing some festivals in 2020 if james gets his shit back in order, take this boy to a live show please! i saw them in 3/2019 & it was like back in the day, they still go hard! so epic! ✌🏼guys you have great taste in music 🤘🏼🤘🏼 /m\
My favorite song is Fade to Black. Such an amazing and powerful song. My favorite album is still Kill ‘em All. KEA is their first full length album and very raw by comparison but it will melt your faces off. Seek and Destroy, No Remorse and Metal Militia are the best tracks on that album although there are no turds on the whole album. Cheers, guys!
Dude, you have a new subscriber. And here's why : I love your honest reactions, and more than that I really like the way you analyse the songs after the reaction. Very few reaction channels really analyse what they react to after they react to it, and the way you do it really speaks to me. I'll be posting some suggestions soon enough, hopefully you'll check em out too :-) \m/
@wintersnake Just started getting into good music about 2 years ago, I didn’t know how sad my lack my musical exploration was until I started making these vids lol
Happy to see people around my age listening to this music you guys are awesome keep it up!! I saw Metallica back in 2017 in Jersey and they killed that shit, if you guys want more Metallica i would LOVE to see a Sanitarium reaction from you guys song has some really DEEP lyrics and AWESOME music behind it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
The song goes in segments like an opera the anxiety of needing a hit, the comforting slow section of getting a hit and then coming down the anxiety returns and the cycle of addiction repeating.
If you're still doing Queen tunes, you've gotta check out both of these - Don't Stop Me Now (starts slow, but picks up quickly), and Seven Seas of Rhye (Pretty energetic tune.)
@@andyandalex Another one you might be interested in, "Princes of the Universe" - Queen wrote this song specifically for the epically amazing movie "Highlander", which you should also definitely check out sometime.
My first concert was actually one of my favorite bands! Iron Maiden 1984 World Slavery tour for Powerslave album with Twisted Sister opening on their Stay Hungry tour, fucking amazing, I was hooked on metal after that!
@@alexfromandyandalex8032 thanks Alex for your comment since watching you guys I've started to listen and go back to my old music and I'm listening to YES their 3rd album which is called THE YES ALBUM which is a classic and one of the many classic of YES albums. Stay lucky stay safe Mike UK.
My first 'big boy' concert was Skinny Puppy in '91. The opening act was unsigned band from Cleveland. They had one single out. Name was something involving hardware. Oh, yeah. Nine Inch Nails. Needless to say I was hooked after that three hours of my life.
My first concert was Ted Nugent, 1980, El Paso, TX. The Romantics opened for him. I went because my parents finally decided I could go to a concert, and that was the first one I could get tickets for. Ted was just beginning his slide into what he became.
I think he's ready for Holy Wars. Also about not listening to Metallica much these day....yes I remember a time when, like you said, I heard them so much as a kid that I stopped for awhile. Finding different thrash bands and death metal bands had me busy. But, there will come a time, 2 yrs, 5yrs, or 10yrs from now, you will hear a Metallica song and appreciate on a different level that nobody does it like them.
Led Zeppelin was my first concert in 1975 at a Day On The Green at the Oakland colosium. I worked at a Chevron station and i told my boss I was going to need that day off to go to a concert. He said ok, but when the day came he said I had to work. I said i was going to the concert and he said if I went, I should turn in my uniforms. So i went home, got all of my uniforms and gave them to him. It was worth it, Judas Priest opened, then Derringer and finally after about a 3 hour wait Led Zeppelin came out. I don't know if it was all of the drugs that were being passed around or the music, but it was a fucking trip I'll never forget. By the way, it was was another Day On The Green 9 years later that I saw Metallica opening up for The Scorpions just before they went on their European trip.
My first concert ever was The Ramones! It was amazing! I don’t listen to them much but still love them! I’m not a huge Primus fan but I highly recommend watching Primus - Tommy The Cat LIVE at Bonaroo 2011. It’s worth watching just to see and hear Les Claypool’s complete mastery on bass! Let me know what you think! I have many other suggestions too! LOVE watching your videos, including the ones with Alex too! Great job guys!
My first concert was in 1977 Led Zeppelin, Rick Derringer, and Judas Priest . It was EPIC! Judas Priest opened and was not that well known then. This turned out to be Led Zeppelin's last concert in the US
This song takes me back to being a little little kid head banging with big bro in the 80’s (he got me into metal ...... Lol. I didn’t even understand what the song was about that young lol 🤷🏻♀️..... as an adult it is now my go to song when drug cravings creep up ..... I control me.... well cigarettes and coffee control me know. Lol. Anesthesia pulling teeth it’s in instrumental only and it’s fucking bad ass
To get an idea of the vast musical ground Metallica has covered, you should react to Mama Said or Low Man’s lyric, ( both of which are attempts at Country) then immediately react to Spit out the Bone.
First concert.....well that was Poison, Britney Fox & Lita Ford when I was 11 years old in 1988. Height of the hair bands. Really only listen to Poison now when I'm in the mood for it. I'd say the best concerts I've been to were Metallica at the height of their Black Album.....really only listen to that album & all the ones before it. And Disturbed....my all time fav band....they are fantastic live.
I know this video is a year old, but I had to comment on it. Great reaction from someone who’s only heard a little Metallica. My first concert was Ted Nugent, with AC/DC and Scorpions as the opening bands. My ears rang for the next three days it was so loud. That’s what got me into hard rock and heavy metal
Andy & Alex, Metallic has got some great jams and Breadfan is one they have been doing for many a year, but one of their great influences was a band named after a little bird. Budgie is a power band from England who has got some of the best guitar riffs going. Breadfan is actually a Budgie song, a GREAT band to give a listen to. Two more amazing jams by Budgie to listen to as well would be Melt the ice away and one of my absolute favorites, I ain't no mountain! Try catchin' that little birdie from across the pond! Bandolier baby!
My first concert was Cheap Trick in 1982. I was about 9-10 years old. My brother was going, and I liked a couple of their songs. Was very cool, and I still have the ticket. Saw them again in college (mid-90's) when they opened for Meat Loaf. I've only seen Metallica once live in concert in '92. I managed to pick up a bootleg 2 CD set of that concert a couple of years later at a music show. I also don't listen to Metallica nearly as much as I used to, probably because I used to listen to it ALL the time, so I kinda burned myself out. But I can listen to individual songs here and there, or if I'm in the mood for a specific sound (I like listening to "Hero of the Day" and "No Leaf Clover" - this song debuted on their S&M album with the San Francisco Symphony, as I mentioned in another post on this video.)
The whole album is a theme of control. Master is being controlled by drugs, Disposable Heroes is being controlled by the military, Leper Messiah is a theme of being controlled by the church and religion.
First concert Ozzy Osbourne - No rest for the Wicked tour 1988. Yes, I am still an uber Ozzy fan. Suggestions; Fade to Black - lyric video, Creeping Death - live in Moscow 1991
My first concert was AC-DC on Let there be Rock.. Yes, Bon Scott. Of course I still love Metallica all these years later LOL (first Metallica show was on the Ride the Lightning tour)
From a more, dare i say, "organic" time. When you had to rely on snail mail for fan club merch, had to stand in line for a day at the nearby record store for concert ticket. Then the release of energy at the concert!
It IS Hetfield singing AS the drug! Amazing... You wanna hear drums?! Play him ONE. It took MONTHS FOR ME to learn the 32nd notes on the double bass drums... Also. Listen to Welcome Home (Sanitarium).

@Debb C. Millard
Thanks!! 😁🔥
I go offline for 2 weeks and you’ve got new 3k of subscribers. Congrats chaps.
Yeah you fixed the sound, good work! 😊 I used to LOVE the Metallica guitar hero, awesome cranking the volume and feeling like you were playing through a Metallica concert! I always liked Nothing Else Matters, bit of a slow one though.
As a Metallica fan for 35 years, that was fun to watch.
I think you’d be blown away by Death Angel - ”The Ultra-Violence”. They were all under age of 20 during the recording, and their drummer only 14.
1986 was such a crazy good year for metal. So many good albums came out that year... and this was the best. Hands down.
React to metallica- Creeling death live in Moscow 1991 pls but live pls
Dude, you have a new subscriber. And here's why : I love your honest reactions, and more than that I really like the way you analyse the songs after the reaction. Very few reaction channels really analyse what they react to after they react to it, and the way you do it really speaks to me. I'll be posting some suggestions soon enough, hopefully you'll check em out too :-) \m/
@njldst2007
Hey thanks w bunch man! Glad you enjoyed the vid!
0:52 to 9:00 when the zombies kill you and they stand shaking their heads side to side
Next one from this same disc should be either Battery, Damage Inc, or one of the BEST metal instrumentals ever made - Orion.
My first concert was Iron Maiden and Accept... fucking had a blast. I still listen to them both.
Metal God My first concert was Accept. Nobody reacts ro to that great band. And they have classic songs to boot
Dude in the left with a Led Zeppelin tee and has never heard Master of Puppets!? I find that hard to believe.
@wintersnake
Just started getting into good music about 2 years ago, I didn’t know how sad my lack my musical exploration was until I started making these vids lol
My first concert was Heart in 1979. It was be cool if you could do some of their stuff.
Allison Jae Barricuda with Fergie - oddly awesome with acrobatics
Wilson's are the top of the female food chain of music period.
Probably one of the top Metallica songs out there. One and Whom the bell tolls I recommend as well. Oh, and they are GREAT live.
FYI ALSO: this is the first song I learned on drums! 🤘
Seen these live twice too! Leeds Festival and Download Festival. Master of puppets is a masterpiece.
Back in the day when Metallica was good! Great stuff!
They're still good, you just may not like what they've evolved into.
But they still outwork EVERYONE. They're not a band...they're a BRAND.
@@sydIRISH Agree. I was not as big a fan of the evolution as I am the band itself. Metallica is a pioneer of music. For that they deserve respect.
While not MOP I think Spit of the Bone holds if you want to hear decent new stuff?
If you're still doing Queen tunes, you've gotta check out both of these - Don't Stop Me Now (starts slow, but picks up quickly), and Seven Seas of Rhye (Pretty energetic tune.)
@Bryan Sproles
You’re going to be very happy on Wednesday! 😉😉
Awesome to see you really getting into it. Takes me back to high school. Good pick.
Awesome. Metallica Disposable Heroes with lyrics please. About a dying soldier in the field. An equally epic song. Love your work
Thanks Chris! 😁
Classic Master of Puppets voted Metallicas best ever song.
Andy and Alex your reactions are tops man.
You both ROCK.
Stay lucky stay safe Mike UK.
@Mike Embleton
Thanks man! 😁🔥
Also a hard thanks!!! I always love seeing your comments🔥 you’re an Original true one
First concert was Pantera. I was 9 yrs old. 1989
First Concert was Pink Floyd The Wall Nassau Colosseum 1981, and. FADE to BLACK by Metallica next WITHOUT A DOUBT
Hmmm very possible
7:30 is when it hits how badass this song is!
How do you get to college without hearing Master of Puppets?! That's an amazing feat haha
Master of Puppets Live in Seattle is the ultimate version of this song!
I was at that concert too!!!!
@Gwen Robinson
Thanks for the tip friend!! And I’m glad you enjoy the vids! I have so much fun making them for you guys! 😁
My very first concert was AC/DC with the LA Guns at the Philadelphia Spectrum in June of 1991. Yes, AC/DC is still my favorite band!
I discovered the song about 2 months ago, and I absolutely love it.
My first concert was in 1977 Led Zeppelin, Rick Derringer, and Judas Priest . It was EPIC! Judas Priest opened and was not that well known then. This turned out to be Led Zeppelin's last concert in the US
This song is 33 years old and absolutely revolutionary at the time it was released in '86. Yes the message was being a slave to drugs.
I love this man! Nothing like hearing a kick ass song for the first time!
AC/DC Thunderstruck!! Oh and use headphones!
Meant to also say Allman Brothers in 1970, first concert! Also listen with headphones. The only way. Enter the Sandman is my fav Metallica song!
First time I saw metalica,Nuremburg germany monsters of rock 87,cliffs last tour I believe.rip Mr burton
The long hair guy it's in love!
He's for sure steadily sneak-eyeballing Opie.
Hey that was my first concert too, I was 13.
Dude on the right kept looking at the dude on the left, like a proud father teaching his son to ride a bike. 😂🤘🏼
This is an instruction video on how to nerd the hell out of Master of Puppets
Daniel Wymer agreed🔥
Bryan Sproles
My first was Aerosmith, Civic Arena, Pittsburgh Pa. Late 70s, probably 1978 or 1979.
It was great!
Great reaction, the song can be anything to you, but it’s 100% about drugs. The band has stated it many times. Still a great reaction.
The whole album is a theme of control. Master is being controlled by drugs, Disposable Heroes is being controlled by the military, Leper Messiah is a theme of being controlled by the church and religion.
This song is pleasing to the ears because there is never a lull or boring part!!..too many peaks and valleys in the land of Metallica✌😁👍
my first concert was molly hatchet and .38 special
First concert was Iron Maiden, loved them then and love them now. You are doing well, keep it up.
It IS Hetfield singing AS the drug! Amazing...
You wanna hear drums?! Play him ONE. It took MONTHS FOR ME to learn the 32nd notes on the double bass drums...
Also. Listen to Welcome Home (Sanitarium).
