I always like how you gently introduce us to higher level concepts, like you say "we could do this but we're not going to" Going back and rewatching these basic videos is a JOY! Thanks x1million
thanks dwyrin. really helpful to me as a borderline ddk/sdk. very clear tuition but never boring; i like your style. even my wife who doesnt play go enjoys the obvious sarcasm and playfulness in your commentary!
Fantastic video. It's amazing to see you winning games comfortably while justifying all your moves based on really simple principles. It's even cooler to see you identify places where basic reading and tesuji and L&D could actually help you *even more*, and then just pretend like you don't know those things, and still win. It's also really great to see you really going all-out on the basics strategy, where in the past you've gone 'look, I have to kill this, I have to fight this'. I can see bloodthirst batts fighting to get out, but you're all discipline now :P This series is just next-level :)
i like the idea of doing "basics + frameworks", "basics + aggression" etc, that would give a bit more variety while helping people who want to use those sorts of styles. i also really like that while you didn't kill the dead groups, you made a point to show how you could have done so afterwards. thanks again for these videos, they help me so much! really can't wait for the next one!
For a while, I have been wanting to say that I enjoy this kind of instruction. "Better late than never." That idea for future videos sounds interesting.
This is outstanding, please continue with these series, they are helping me so much, I'm growing day by day, thank you a lot! Like button pushed to death
Hey, cool video Dwyrin! I found a little sequence that black could have played after 26:13 to capture white's stones at N17 (but black would need to first capture the two white stones at R19 and S18.) Black plays M15, white plays N14, and then black can just play N16 to capture the stones. If white connects with N16 instead after black's initial move at M15, black can still capture with N14.
During the game you pointed out many ways where you could have destroyed your opponent but you still just made simple move and won on territory by a comfortable margin. You shown me what separates kyus from dons.
I like that he let it live. It wasn't about whether he could reduce the white group to one eye. It was about whether the cut at Q11 would save the group anyway.
it's of course a bit of an itch to watch you not kill, but I appreciate that you don't. If you killed, it would be so easy for us to think it's unfair. Also, I know hane at the head of two and three, but I didn't expect it to be that powerful. I wouldn't have forced white to bend the way you did, so that was useful.
Hey dwyrin! I've been going back and watching alot of your SimCity 4 threads, and you've got me in the mood to go back and play the game again. Do you have any mods or strategies to recommend for pollution control or developing the ever elusive skyscrapers? Thanks!
he left because it was too long?? everybody is aware of there is a time limit right?? if he wants he can play speed go or something.. it is your right to use every bit of your time.
Would capping at that M-14 point be considered 'honte' since it would be you solidifying your area and taking away any potential aji your opponent could use? In any case, I think I would do that myself early on just to remove a headache before it became one. I think that fight in the upper right corner would be basic enough for lower level players to go ahead with given the small space and the fact it's self contained. Now if it were to take place in the middle of the board that would be far more advanced in my mind having to keep track of where other stones are relative to the fight. In addition, that shape on the lower right was easily killable given it looked like a bulky five. Lol to lines like 'having his bones decorate my desk.' Can really tell you have a bloodthirsty streak that you're actively trying to keep a lid on for the videos. Overall though, I'm very impressed with how you keep winning quite comfortably using only the 'basics' and the fact that you let several of his groups live.
I know but at a certain point in the game you attach to a weak group. When he hanes, you stretch and he hanes at the head of two. Admittedly you make territory at the right side, but this is not a basic way of playing. And it's wrong too I think. Anyway, your videos are well crafted.
+[Nebula] Periculum Me too. However I did want to drive the point home of the importance of large moves and direction of play. When I start with the additions of frameworks I'm going to add a touch more pressure. We'll be identifying unreasonable invasions and how to deal with them.
I think u need more variety. helps novice players. gives us ideas on this game. the more ideas a person has the more fight he has. yes give us all ur ideas. ideas give hope. if you have a bad plan it is better then no plan.
10 minutes in and I'm yelling at my screen "No! You should kill him blood for the blood god skulls for the skull throne!"

This my first TH-cam comment. I love this series. it is exactly what I need. keep it up.

I'm saying something... I *love* that idea. Thank you.
Hey Dwyrin, I honestly enjoy your video. Them jokes are serious. also seriously helpful.
love these basic games! very helpful for me as a 4k player!

I found myself punching the screen everytime you let him live and not playing N14
Im a 5k BTW
Hell yes. This was painful
the whole big white dragon was unsafe !
you could squeeze at the n14 in the endgame!
you should have killed the q14 stones. A five space eye is super basic life and death.
I like that he let it live. It wasn't about whether he could reduce the white group to one eye. It was about whether the cut at Q11 would save the group anyway.
at 10:50, isn't the upper left corner contestable? Why doesn't that trump the side extension (which was played instead of capping)?
it's of course a bit of an itch to watch you not kill, but I appreciate that you don't. If you killed, it would be so easy for us to think it's unfair. Love the videos. Thanks. Why does white play R1 and S2? Doesn't connecting at P1 or P2 (miai) just make two eyes?

That must have hurt horribly, letting everything live like that. You are trading your soul in to make these videos lol
18:50 S11❓
I dont feel those were hard reads as a 5k :/
How is attaching to a weak group "basic"? And how is the next "hane at the head" basic?
hane at the head of two and 3 stones is a basic proverb in go.
I know but at a certain point in the game you attach to a weak group. When he hanes, you stretch and he hanes at the head of two. Admittedly you make territory at the right side, but this is not a basic way of playing. And it's wrong too I think.

Why not play f3 at 15:18
Wanted the corner, not the outside.
Oh i see a counter atari at e2 forces capture and then loses the corner...
teach us how to kill please
by teaching me how to kill I won't die
+Devvan Butler Tsumego practice.
Tsumego is everything in that field since it helps three important aspects:
1. How to live
2. How to kill
3. Improve reading
I feel really bad about these moves wuere you left him live. These "Tsumegos" are reaaally basic.

+dwyrin If the tsumego is really basic you should just kill him, it's 5k after all i think they can all kill this
