  • There's a long history of actors playing fake twins, doppelgangers, and doubles in movies. This episode of "Movies Insider" traces the evolution of doubling effects in Hollywood, from the split screens of the original "Parent Trap" to the rotoscoping and green-screen composites used on Nicolas Cage in 2002's "Adaptation," all the way up to the advanced face and head replacements of 2019's "Us."
    We take a look at how technology dating from the early silent-film era has advanced to make movies like "Us," "The Social Network," and more possible, and break down why the Jeremy Irons twins in David Cronenberg's 1988 movie "Dead Ringers" represented a turning point for twin effects.
    Find out how the artists at Monsters Aliens Robots Zombies VFX cloned Paul Rudd for his 2019 Netflix series "Living with Yourself," how Rodeo FX created Jake Gyllenhaal doppelgangers for Denis Villeneuve's 2013 thriller "Enemy," and how NVIZ Studio pulled off its twinning effects on Tom Hardy in 2015's "Legend" and Seth Rogen in 2020's "An American Pickle" - and learn why late 19th-century optical effects laid the foundation for all this groundbreaking effects work in the 21st century.

      @carag2567 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Tatiana Maslany's mind-blowing performances in Orphan Black are a masterclass in superior acting ability. Not only did she embody her five main characters with so much individuality that it was easy to forget they were all played by the same actor (they looked like entirely different people!!!), but episode after episode, season after season, she also did this with dozens of side characters (remember the trans clone, Tony?) She also teased out the finest bits of nuance and depth in the five mains so that we could see their growth and development over time.
      It was an excellent TV series conceptually and the execution was fantastic but Tatiana Maslany is most of the reason why it was so damn phenomenal.

    When my identical twin sister and I saw Harry Potter in theaters when we were around 13, we both freaked out because we immediately recognized that Fred and George were portrayed by actual identical twins instead of one person pretending to be identical twins. Having met at least 9 other sets of identical twins in my life, there are always tiny physical differences between identical twins. Mole placement, scars, and even a small difference in height is pretty common. I'm really disappointed that this video didn't address the Phelps twins.

    Real acting twins include Jodie Foster and Linda Hamilton and Eva Green. It was Linda's actual twin sister Leslie who doubled for her in 'T2-Judgement Day'. And Jodie's twin sister doubled for her in her early film 'The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane'. The movie 'Gremlins 2' made extensive use of actors who were real twins, so every once in awhile real twins ARE used.

    I kind of feel bad for the body doubles. They have to basically do everything that the actor is doing only for the editing team to later cut their heads out of the movie and get paid a fraction of what the actor gets paid.

At least it would prevent all movies being about characters standing 6ft apart from each other, which would get boring very quickly.

    Thought this would be a video about how twin characters are portrayed in movies. Honestly, I'm really tired of the evil twin trope, and how so many people are under the misconception that all twins are identical. My siblings are fraternal twins, and its so awkward when they meet new people because folks find it fascinating for some reason. Its really not that weird, fraternal twins are have the same level of genetic difference than any other pair of siblings.

    • @rosiefay7283

    People think its super amusing to have twins wear the same clothes, act the same or do things in synchrony and 99% of the time that is how they are portrayed. That isn't what being a twin is like though and it just makes me roll my eyes every time they have twins in a movie.

    The tennis ball eyeline could be enhanced with perhaps a pair of tennis balls or 2 "eyes" set anatomically correctly distanced for the reacting actor's close ups. When we look someone in the eyes we tend to flick from one eye to the other, not blankly stare into one eye.
