Thanks so much for this video. I just got a Bayliner 185 this year and was about to take it to the local shop and get robbed for ~$250. I'm now gonna do it myself. Thanks again for taking the time to make this excellent video!
Thank you very much for this video, this is the second year I have my Crownline 242 with a volvo penta 5.7.... last year... paid 1700$ for storage and winterizing... this year I am not going to do so... I will do it myself and because of your simple but very accurate video, I was able to do so. Thank You Kindly form Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
Yes, there are two camps on this. I did drain the block first, and then refilled with the Pink stuff. It has anti corrosion properties that helps the internals not rust in the damp oxygen rich environment. This method is not an excuse not to drain the block.
I live in Plano(North Dallas) and have an Evinrude 115. I went to a boat shop in Garland on Avenue K, I was worried about a cracked block and they told me I didn't have to winterize an outboard motor. I will start it up this weekend and I guess I will know for sure after that. Trying to get some help from them but they were jerks and I think just trying to get rid of me.
i didnt winterize my outboard, and up here in Ottawa it gets -40 C. but i did bring my motor indoors and stored it in my basement. lucky for me i started it on my 2nd pull.
thank you so much for this video help me a lot. I am new to this hobby and can barely afford anything just inherit a boat from my inlaw. didnt see a video when you use the fogging do you start the boat with the anti freeze or regular water which one is first. pls let me know
Dang that's a lot of work. Makes me want to stick to outboards. I was about to buy my first IO boat but after learning that IO's need so much just to exist in salt water I'd be crazy to switch. New manifolds and elbows every 5 years, even with fresh water cooling, long internalization with big consequences. Great video but you've made up my mind. Oh and the outdrive takes crazy maintenance then your boat sinks when the bellows fail. None of that needed with an outboard.
I store my outboard (Yammie 9.9) in an unheated shed in Vancouver. All I've ever done is drain the float bowl. Fogging is unnecessary. I have 12 small engines (chainsaw, lawnmower, weed whacker, etc.) I have never fogged an engine, nor have I ever regretted not fogging an engine. 25 years in a row isn't luck.
I don't buy Ethanol gas. I don't have these issues. However, ethanol is bad for small engines and boats. These motors generally sit for long periods of time which isn't good with ethanol in the tank. Generally, Automobiles run fuel out quickly and isn't affected by ethanol. The ethanol doesn't have time to absorb moisture in cars. We use our automobiles often. If ethanol is used, a fuel stabilizer is recommended in all small engines/boats.
Im curious why you drained the engine after putting antifreeze in? I thought the antifreeze also helps against corrosion? Someone told me to warm up the engine to operating temp, then drain all water out of engine, then run 5 gallons of antifreeze on muffs and then leave in. What's your thoughts. Thanks.
just stopped at Fun and Sun sports in Hurst, TX why are they telling me to winterize you only drain the water from the engine and your done????? $112( but i saw they sell the rv /marine antifreez !) , then following yr replace water pump every yr, or they call it something peller? oil , gear oil and your ready for the new yr??
For 35 yrs I`ve drained it clean every fall ,Leg ,Water jacket , Foot ,of oil ,Gas and water never use any of this stuff the old motor is still going fine ,But I do a full service on my stuff all the time -If it has a drain port DRAIN IT .and don`t put your money in the other guys pocket that makes this gimmick stuff , RV antifreeze is for motorhomes -If you can take the time to put this in the motor take the time to drain it right if you don`t know how this will help . Thats just my opinion

It takes more than one day to freeze a motor

@Bootle888
There are differences, but I do not own an outboard right now and it has been years. I am sure there is a video of that somewhere.

I wish we could buy ethanol free here
your channel rocks thats for making,,,,,....
ATF fluid works for fogging too.

Wow!! Thats how I do mine!! ..I thought I was the only one using the funnel method.. :-D
Do you winterize your Sea Ray with the Bravo by this method? I have heard of issues of doing it this way with the front mounted sea pump.
@freespeachrulez
Very true.
Do you still work on jetskis?
