  • Bach “12 Short Preludes” or “12 Little Preludes” are ideal study pieces for intermediary pianists. In this video I play Prelude 3 in 4 slightly different ways.
    Download sheet music (free) from IMSLP Music Library.
    tinyurl.com/y3...
    The order of “12 Short Preludes” differs between editions. In this video series, the 12 Preludes are ordered in the way they are traditionally performed and recorded.

    I am a self-taught amateur and I am learning to play only for my own pleasure. I like this piece played in moderate to slow tempo not only because I don't possess the needed technique but rather because playing slowly I have more time to enjoy the harmony of arpeggios.

    the execution of these performances are wonderful. Precise, detailed and accurate they show how they should be played, and if I may be so bold it's how JS possibly would have tackled the newly invented Piano-forte. (Invented after his death of course. )

    after a month, i think i finally learned all the notes to this one.... it was difficult because i'm not good at reading music yet, and i was ALWAYS losing my place in the sheet music lol so i ended up learning a bar, and then to practice would have to play from the start every time... It was brutal! but you know what, I appreciate the challenge, and the resolution in the final two bars sealed up all that effort to learn the notes with a beautiful little reward. Bach... bro.... your music was a challenge and a delight to learn the entire way through!
    Paul, your video has been a huge help in figuring out exactly how this could sound, thank you!

      I have a tip for you (and everyone else) that worked extremely well for me. First divide the piece up into segments of a couple of bars (usually multiples of 2) and then start at the very LAST section. Master that and then go to the previous section and play until the end. Until you have the entire piece. This will prevent the common pitfall of mastering the first section and sucking at the rest. This will also help you pick up the piece from almost anywhere.

      Bach preludes are a treasure trove of harmonic analysis. The structures are simple but the catch is that you can’t rely on memorising the melody. It tests your core skills most importantly your ease of reading the sheet, analysing the harmony etc..Also a small suggestion to whoever is learning a bach piece, try playing it on a harpsichord. You’ll be amazed as to how good it sounds, as he composed on that instrument.

    • @gogotrololo
      @gogotrololo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aviupadhyay1662 it's so true about the harpsichord, you find yourself going at a different cadence and your timing sharpens heavily! It's truly beautiful when I play it on harpsichord setting on my electric piano. I did memorize it, but since learning it I've picked up violin and a teacher, and the ability to read music as to play would have been a massive massive asset on learning the piece. Glad to have invested in reading music finally, after so many years haha
      Poor piano gets neglected now, I'm all violin >:)

    Sir Paul.... thank you very,very much for playing all the classical pieces that I've seen the videos of at the right tempo. With the tempo that you played them at they came across with great feel that is touching to the soul. I've seen other pianists playing some of the same pieces and they just don't have that very same effect, most of the time they're being played much too fast. Whenever I want to hear a classical piece on piano I always go searching for your videos. Please keep up the great work.

    The slower version is the one that i prefer. As an autodidact on all of the instruments i play, i am totally unable to reach your masterness on the piano Mr Paul Barton. This said, i don't like how you separate the final chord from the last notes : i like to play these in a rallentando leading naturally to this last chord . Regards Maestro !
