    One of the few very Best Motorhome information films. Not from a sales agent, or collaboration, but from people who do actually use a Motorhome. Very easy watching. Friendly presentation and from experience the best information give out again at the end of film.
    Thanks.

    I bought a brand new Hymer MLI580 8 years ago. It is a beautiful van and does everything I want, however have one regret about being a Mercedes Aclass . EVERYTHING that needs doing to the engine HASTO BE DONE through a letter box slot andNOTHING is accessible to do , maintenance is VERY Difficult to do even the air filter must be disassembled in place to change the filter. The dealer HATES THEM, but the van cab based models are just standard vehicles to maintain.

    Excellent advice thanks. One thing to mention, you loose your automatic C1 entitlement at age 70 and have to jump through a few hoops: eye test and medical with doctors certificate (£55 to £100) every 3 yrs, if you want to drive over 3.5 tonnes; Also, need to reapply for licence every 3 yrs anyway.

    Having had six brand new Motorhomes, which were all good layouts I have to say….the most important things for me are Fixed Bed, Large Garage, Separate Toilet and Shower (I don’t like sitting in the shower having a dump), Large Fridge Freezer….loving my new bench seated Moho, giving me a rear lounge in the front 😀 so to speak but with the advantage of a garage for storage woo hoo.

    Once again a great vlog, I think most of us when first getting into Motorhoming make the same mistakes on layout and the size you really need, we need to find the layout that best for you but understand that not every motorhome is going to tick every box, I like the fixed bed, but to get the storage for larger items the island bed didn't work, the same with shower rooms I'm 6'3" and find most toilets don't have leg room, we sold our last MH to downsize but after 2yrs of looking have ended up with a larger one, the thing is to not rush into buying as you said try before buying, also remember a 3.5 ton may only have 400kg of load once your added a pasenger and clothing as well as bedding you not left with alot extra battery and solar panels a bike or 2 and it soon gone and your overloaded no one ever seems to addvise new MH to find out what the unlaidened wieght is and how it's made up, as this can be different between manufacturers, most only have 25lt of water in the unlaidened wieght, so just by filling your water before leaving site or home could put you over wieght as 1lt of water = 1kg if you wide camp as we do you can always find water but may not be able to empty your gray water.. ANyway you get a thumbs up again from us for another great video.

    Nice to see Jon and Tash there. It is a minefield choosing the right van. Lots of research and visiting dealerships or shows. I love this part of replacing a van. I have also been on the customer panel for Swift and now Landrover. Guy.

    Size and layout are definitely key considerations before buying a first MH. We were on the brink of committing to an expensive, German A class when the dealer suggested we rented a similar layout first. Excellent advice. We didn’t get on with the “must have” L shape lounge and completely reviewed our compromise list (there are compromises with every motorhome). We did buy an expensive German motorhome, but not the one we thought we wanted - a costly mistake narrowly avoided.

    Great video. Quick and concise. I’ve used caravans for over 30 years and agree with you layout is the major thought. Unfortunately if you are new it is a difficult choice as experience gains you knowledge. Renting a motorhome may seem a waste of money but it will save you in the long run. Compromise is definitely a second thought as I’ve never come across the perfect van .
    Looking forward to your next motor home and your trips ahead.

    Layout is definitely something to give extra thought to. I had a centre washroom caravan with a transverse fixed island bed at the back. It was a real pain so I opted for an inline island bed in the MH. Massive improvement. I like the microwave bread bin idea.

    Also if buying slightly older a lot of the niggling bits have been sorted and extras have been fitted. Recently got a Autotrail Dakota with everything already upgraded from solar panels to a full levelling system. It is a minefield and would personally have my own hab check done. I wouldn't want to rely on a dealers. For the sake of a couple of hundred its well worth it compared to the value of the motorhome.

    When we bought our motorhome we did what you really shouldn't and bought the first one we looked at. We had no clue about them or what we would want from one. We now know we want a different lay out after using it for 2 years. We also use ours like a car when away. We like the fact we have a portable loo and can have a cuppa whenever we feel like 😁

    13 motorhomes/campervans later we gave up trying to find the perfect one the last being an Autosleepers warwick XL with all the toys.The solution was to buy an ex patient transport ambulance with reasonably low mileage and build our own using all the bits we liked from the previous campers,including not fitting a microwave as it to was only ever used as abread bin.

    Great vlog. I’d watch out for prices - you can spend £50k, £100k and more if you want to. Make your own mind up - don’t let the dealer steer you too much - their job is to get as much of your hard earned cash as possible! Personally I’d get something cheap based upon a Luton van and then use it and then fine tune what you want next. I’d advise not to jump straight in with a shiny new one.

    For me - New or Used - Used are so strong money with no manufacturers warranty etc - New costs a little bit more money, but gives you total peace of mind for a novice. We know the layout, island bed, with separate Wc and shower, with a Jack/Jill door to close off the bedroom/wc/shower from the rest of the motorhome. Plus big garage. Spending an extra 10% though gets you brand new. That’s the compromise for us.

    We thought we had the right van for last 2.5 years with French bed in corner but getting older it has become harder to make bed, Bailey french bed high off the floor so got to clamber up to get to the back corner, answer - just traded in for a Swift Escape 694 with rear ISLAND bed means losing a great wash room with seperate shower and gaining a full wet room all in one which we always said we would never do but age does have its let downs mobility not as it was.

    • @RoamingRadfords
      @RoamingRadfords  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think understanding that compromise is going to be necessary actually eventually makes the choice a bit easier. I imagine it must be frustrating to change your van because your needs change rather than you fancy a change.

    Great video again, absolutely spot on, layout is most important, but is there a perfect layout, I think there is always a compromise to be made in any layout, we have come from a fixed island bed caravan to a rear lounge motorhome, have swapped and changed since 2001, it suits us to have the extra space when taking the grandkids away, making the bed up takes less than 5 mins and packing away the same, love our duvaly sleeping duvets, in a few years we might go back to a fixed bed who knows lol, have you decided on your layout yet guys? I've had loads over the last 30 years, bought a new Rapido 2019 coachbuilt, a class, I found I had made a massive mistake when I collected it in Germany in the winter. Older vehicles go slower for better mpg plus they generally have less powerful modern engines.
    Also keep a slush fund of about £1000 for old vehicles ie over 10years old, as parts wear out and/or need upgrading / replacing especially tires( many are over 5 yrs old but still have legal
    tread depths).
    Biggest tip regardless of what you have is the payload must be distributed evenly as much as possible or you could end up with axle overloading ( deemed dangerous as you're exceeding the safe parameters)

    It really is a minefield but after over 30 years of caravans and campervans buying our new motorhome wasn’t too difficult. Definitely layout is key plus in our motorhome we have two drop down double beds and a great lounge. Also we tow the wife’s Toyota IQ behind us on an A frame so easy to tour the local area once set up on site. Our kids are adults now but sometimes visit with their partners and love the drop down front double. Only downside is the toilet fills up too quickly then. 😂. Hi Roamers, once again thank you for the upload.
    I bought a Ford Challenger left hand drive mobile home in Switzerland, with a fixed queen bed and seperate shower and toilet. We also have the double bed coming out the roof, which is great for the grand kids but you could also get a couple adults up in it, if you don't mind the stairs.
    The good thing is the fixed bed moves up and down and gives you great space in the garage. Its just over 7m so its a good size inside.
    I would like to put panels on the roof to increase the battery power, do you have any tips on how to do it or recommend any fitters, I live in Scotland.

    Everybody's needs are different you explained it spot on. Many years with a caravan suited us when kids were little . Then they left. 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
    motorhome was 👍 .
    We were sure we wanted room to take the grandchildren. Fixed 🛌 above cab ect then after a few years we changed what we needed and wanted now we love what we have. Bench seats fixed bed above cab and French bed at back . So on paper it may read sleeps six .but we cannot travel with children as the seats are side facing . Although it has 2 fitted belts one one side only adults can use them .so for us this was and still is our perfect layout......and can I say anyone buying please check if there motorhome is registered on company house .

    I think cost is also a major consideration, you may have mentioned it and I missed it! I know you mentioned second hand. My favourite motorhome is the Wingamm 540 Oasi, it would be perfect for us but it’s over £100k so for now we have settled for a lovely Devon conversion on a MWB Peugeot Boxer and we’re buying the lottery tickets.😀 Thanks for a really interesting video and for sharing your knowledge.

    Great video! We make Steering and Suspension parts for RV's in the US. How do your RV's handle on the road over there across the pond?

    • @RoamingRadfords
      @RoamingRadfords  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey SuperSteer. Most handle just fine over here and throughout Europe, especially when on an ALCO chassis, but some on a standard 3.5 tonne van chassis often need uprating to carry extra weight or sometimes air bags are added to the rear for extra payload and stability.

    Hi Steve I’ve notice that your swift kon tiki is fitted with air conditioning, I’ve just bought a tag axle kon Tiki much the same and I have been researching which air con unit to buy, I assume yours is a truma which seems to be the route to go, however after reading the spec it says it requires 28 amp supply on initial start up and from memory at camp sites they sometimes have a trip off on hook up supply of only 10 amp, did you have any problems abroad as I’m planning a 2 month trip around Europe or even here in the UK, great blogs cheers Derek

      @RoamingRadfords  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question Derek, and yes we have the Truma Aventa Comfort. We have had trouble but only twice in 2 x 6 week summer trips. Most European campsites will be fine Derek.

    Good vid again for #RoamingRadfords all very valid points they mention and we agree with most of them but I would also consider looking at private sales because sometimes there are bigger savings to be made. Clearly do your research first though, like MOT history, price check, view in the daylight, ask for a demo of everything working like gas, electrics, awning, take it for a test drive with temp insurance etc .......

    Hi guys, what campervan diesel heater would you recommend for a L2H2 size van?

    • @RoamingRadfords
      @RoamingRadfords  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We don’t have a diesel heater so may not be the best to advise you, however everyone that has a diesel heater seems to turn it off shortly after fairly quickly as it makes the van hot in no time so for your size van I’m betting a 2kw one would be fine.

    You omitted the licence requirement for anyone over seventy years of age. Irrespective of when you passed your test, when you reach the age of 70 you lose the 'C 1' entitlement on you licence. The entitlement can be retained by having a medical and being declared fit to drive up to the 7.5 ton limit. A retest is not required. If you lose your 'C 1' entitlement you can only drive up to 3.5 ton limit.

    • @RoamingRadfords
