    Got my first van around 14 years ago a mark II 1979 Ford for £1500 & have worked my way up through 4 more to around 30 k currently, buying well so far with virtually no depreciation and a lot of fun holidays!

    Great informative video. You dont want to spend too much when starting off. It takes a while to realise what it is that you want in terms of layout. After living with a van for a while you then know what is important to you. For example do you want a fixed bed without the hassle of making a bed up. Or do you prefer a rear lounge with more entertaining space but you have to make the bed up. There is always a trade off or a compromise to be made. More of one aspect for less of another. It depends on what your priorities are and how important you think those aspects are to you. But you only really know when you've lived with it for a while. Unless you buy a real lemon youre not going to lose out if you decide you want a different layout. Motorhomes are that popular at the moment that if you buy wisely you will recoup most of your money back when selling with only a slight depreciation.

    Loved this vid, I'm looking at buying my first motor home and have around £23000, really good info and has made me a bit happier to see what I can expect for my money, I want around 2007 van and I like the more modem look, there is so much info our there and it can get confusing but this has been a great help, I will be living full time in the van so it has to be right, maybe you will see me in the future because you come across as a proper honest and stand up guy, thanks for the eye opener

    I sold my home and moved into a caravan. Needed to be closer to work. Wanted MH but caravan more convenient. I found the sweet spot on MH was 15k to avoid the twee cottage look and caravan, all be it younger than the MH was 8k. 3:23 similar layout to my swift challenger van, handy in that you can sleep on the bench seats without having to make the bed up, so there's space to get up in the night to go to the loo.

    And just to add. If you buy in a private sale you can get even more for your money.
    But no warranty. I bought a much 1998 boxer 320 for 8k. Only 40k on the clock, never been welded. Checked MOT records for 13yrs & all good.
    I am qualified in electronics so will install my own solar system. Around 600w monocrystaline panels & 600ah AGM bank. Also a generator backup so it's good for some wild camping.

    Very interesting price range identification.
    My question is, what would you suggest as a suitable option for an older couple wanting a 1-year European touring experience, something that could be readily sold on afterwards. We would prefer the modern all singing and dancing version as opposed to a much "used" older style, a fixed bed arrangement is preferable and a separate shower. No limit on budget, but expectations to recoup purchase costs, thereabouts, as opposed to renting.

    • @TheMotorhomeMan
      @TheMotorhomeMan  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A few more points I'd like to know though (between £15-20,000 bracket as a beginner);
    -How do you do the night heating?
    -What's the average annual insurance cost?
    -Considering living in the motorhome, how do you register your address?

This is so as she can help with the driving. We don’t have a van to trade in. I am concerned she might find it too small after use so keen to try one first for before buying. You can buy a very reasonable Motorhome under £10k if you know what you are doing - buy privately, buy on condition and specification not just mileage. Bought my 99 Autocruise Chamois for a good deal last year had to do a few jobs - replaced cracked window, good clean, machine polish, modernise certain things but essentially a great van.

    • @TheMotorhomeMan
      @TheMotorhomeMan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree with you R A but the key is you have to know what you are doing.The point is when you bought it you had to do a few jobs on it and to get it up to standard I know it is going to cost a minimum of £1k.For the general public more often than not they will get stung.Thanks R A you made a great comment and I hope to hear more from you.

    • @RA-tb7jx
      @RA-tb7jx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Motorhome Man The window was £225 from original supplier in Italy... they just clip in, I’m fussy so machine polished myself and bought wheel trims £30?, replaced brass with nickel and chrome... realistically £350 with all taps and knobs but wasn’t necessary and above and beyond norm just personal taste... it’s meant to be a mobile holiday home? Autocruise are a cut above typical Motorhomes so money well spent and value added. I bought it cheap enough to make a margin on as a dealer ie three owners, two full sets of keys, all handbooks, full history receipts and stamped up book, inverter, 12v lcd tv, dab radio, u shaped lounge, rear electric sunroof, reversing camera, max air fan... I understand that as a rule of thumb to the typical private man the sub £10k is a mess / complete drama. Taking to Spain this year to enjoy then maybe one day buy a brand new Itineo A Class I think they are (relatively) great value.

    Just buy a van and do it up. That’s easily possible for under 15k and u can get all the luxuries like a 100k van. Either that or just buy a bus as they are dirt cheap and are bigger to sleep in although it being bigger comes at a cost of knowing where u are going before going there.

    Nice vid very informative thanks...one question..I'm starting to save now with a goal of spending around 25k in 5 yrs... how quickly do you think the value of the upper end Vans will depreciate?...in other words in 5 yrs do you think I'll be able to pick up one of the "nicer" one's which Go for around 30k now or Will they hold their value?... for me the newer style Vans will never be out of style or undesirable...most of them are nicer than my house!

    • @TheMotorhomeMan
      @TheMotorhomeMan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Lee they do not lose there value to much if you are selling private.Everything goes out of style at some point.£25k is a very good starting point to get you a good motorhome.

    • @vtrmcs
      @vtrmcs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      British vans depreciate like a stone because they are pretty crap in the main. German vans not so much. A decent german van thats 5 years old will cost you about £45k+ at the moment for a sub 7m. Give it 12 months and they will drop by 5k ish (coronavirus has let dealers price gouge) give or take depending on options. Be careful of payload, which is a problem unless you have category C or C1 on your driving licence. For that budget, Id go for a well used Hymer, but again, watch payload and insist it is weighed as a condition of purchase to make sure you are happy.
