strategy for lyft: wait a few weeks, they put out a good bonus/guarantee. The following week, nothing. Wait a few weeks, they put out a good bonus....and it repeats itself. Lyft is looking for a buyer so they are making it look like they have more drivers than they actually do. I have only 12 weeks this year with lyft income. I havent driven in 3 weeks so we will see what happens next week.

The only solution to the worker exploitation and corporate greed is NEW AND BETTER COMPANIES FOUNDED BY PEOPLE WITH MORALS AND ETHICS with progressive values such as worker fairness.
Its time for workers across the nation to crowdfund new companies. These companies don't care about drivers and will only operate in the best interests of their sharehoders. These companies are a duopoly and can do whatever they want because of lack of competition in the industry.
ITS ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE. The Biden administration is issuing 400, 000 new work permits for Migrants. Where do you think most of those new workers are going to go? Its going to be uber, lyft, doordash etc. So these companies are going to lower wages even further with all these new continuous supply of poor desperate people. Theres no incentive to do better by the workers and the government is actually supporting the Tech companies( their donors) by having OPEN BORDERS which reduces worker leverage and makes STRIKING pointless.
Striking doesn't work because there's open borders theyll just replace everyone with the fresh supply of poor desperate people.
We are working hard here in ILLINOIS crowdfunding through drivers and PROGRESSIVES fighting corporate greed. By next January we will have a new subscription based rideshare company that drivers keep 100% earnings and cancellation fees, crime insurance, etc . We have ex uber/lyft corporate employees who are working with us as well to help us fight and get rid of uber/lyft in this state.

Great video! You are my double. After 31.5 rides and 9 years with Lyft, I’m primarily doing Uber now. I wish I had done this sooner. I’m making over 30% more in the DC market, not even trying harder.
Additionally, Lyft has disrespected me 3 times over the past year. Twice on riders false accusations- including one alleged I ran over their foot. I was deactivated for multiple days twice. The third included my Lyft Driver account being hacked- while on the platform! All my financial information compromised & my driver account frozen again. Simply awful!

They are ripping off everyone to survive, yesterday I picked up a rider for a 50 min ride pays $31 they charged her $71 and when she added a stop on the way they charged her extra $60 total if $131 and I still received $31.92 so rider and me discussed that and had left with a Sour feeling against Lyft also I felt I have been extremely ripped off.

I know how you feel and it's kinda sad that we're sharing stories about what's wrong with Lyft, because they started out so well as an alternative to Uber. Things soured for me when I discovered that a $20 surge went entirely to Lyft. A rider shared with me last year that a 1 mile trip that normally cost her $8 was costing her $28. She thought, of course, that I was "making bank" with the high surge pricing. When I dropped her off and checked the payout, I only got $8. Lyft took the entire $20 surge. So now when I see surge pricing on the Lyft app I just don't give a damn.

Also realized Uber and Lyft take Atleast 50% of each ride. Found out from chating with customers who were sad when they heard it.

It’s just like day trading. Supply and Demand, support and resistance. Buyers and Sellers. If seller refuse to sell, prices will rise till sellers are attracted to selling. Buyer are like riders and Sellers are Drivers. Spreads are created, leaving a bid price that is the ride offer, and the asking price that is the driver’s tolerance or acceptance rate. Don’t tolerate or accept less than you are willing to sell your services for. If the buyer buys, their buy orders will be placed at the asking price unless the asking price and the bid price is the same, the buyer must cover the spread. So riders pay a surge. The surge is the spread

Because I drive a luxury car and I run both apps, I sometimes cancel regular Lyft or Uberx rides, because I'll get a Lux or Premier request on the other app. Lux and Premier pay much more than regular Lyft. or Uberx rides. So, if that Uberx or Lyft passenger has not gotten in my car when I get a luxury request I'm cancelling and going for the luxury ride. There have been times when I arrive to pick the passenger up and I'm waiting for them to come out and they're taking their time and I get a luxury request. I'm like, I'm sorry I have to go. I would never put anyone out of the car once they're in, but I get a little tempted sometimes. Just yesterday I was driving a $7 Uberx passenger when a$46 Lux request came in that I was forced to decline. It hurts when that happens.

It’s about scale. The larger driver/rider base, the more they can cut incentives like driver bonuses or customer discounts. Its business. Our problem seems to be our own. The more drivers sign up, the worse it becomes for drivers. The more riders the cheaper the ride cost. Higher interest rates cause business loans and lines of credit to cost more. Higher cost causes price increases or higher commissions from drivers fares.
Drivers have all the power until self driving cars arrive. They fear the drivers ability to control their own markets. A decline movement would cripple these companies. Strikes have the ability to attract media attention but does very little to make a better drivers market. If every driver were to decline all rides that aren’t $3 per mile. It would hurt these companies badly and they could do nothing about it with the economy in its current state. If they punish the drivers they get sued and losses end up greater. If they pack up and leave a city, they lessen the revenue streams.
$3 per mile or decline. This will create demand. In turn will create a surge. The surge will reach what is needed for the ride to offer $3/mile. So then drivers will still be able to earn. If the fall weak and take lower fares, then the driver will eat the cost to do business and will not remain in business for long.
My point here is that the drivers control the market. We set the prices no matter what Uber/Lyft says a ride is worth. We have to accept the offer for the price to be final. Seen drivers low ball offers without incentives, drivers simply decline. No rides means no profit for Uber/Lyft. They will listen to drivers at this point to try and find common ground or go bankrupt. Simple. Drivers have the power. Drivers spread the word to other drivers and patiently decline till the ride is fair. The companies make adjustments to demand and all is as it should be. Crying about more money while accepting low pay is insane and just doesn’t work.
Decline, decline, decline until the acceptance rate is 0%. That says to them, zero tolerance for the low fares drivers earn. The higher the acceptance rate, the higher the tolerance.
Sure there will be drivers who take less. Again they can’t afford to continue to do so, and once they take a ride, they are out of the pool till the ride is complete. Making cheap drivers rare. So have no fear, drivers will earn. So decline. Nothing under $3/mile till you start seeing $1.50/mile. Decline longer rides over 20 miles, unless they are comfort or XL, which are better suited for long distance travel. No one wants to drive long distances in a cramped car. They need room to relax on the longer rides. These rides already pay well enough for the long distances

Wow! Your comment is ON POINT!!! This is exactly why my AR is always under 8% and Lyft won't give me ride challenges! I REFUSE to take their GARBAGE pay for these rides! I drove across town, at least 10plus miles, to a pick-up at Wendy's. When I got there, they were closing. I called the store and they actually answered. They said they never got a DD from the said customer. I go to call cs, and I get a shop request for Walgreens. So I figured I'd deal with the previous issue once I get the new one done. Well that's delivery wasa whole nightmare in itself..lol So I call customer svc on my way home and basically the order had dropped off the face of this earth, according to the 3 techs I kindly spoke too but biting my tongue. So I never got paid. I just sucked it up, but I was not very happy with us after that!!

I think the problem is it is area dependent, for example, out here in Western New York. We get $.71 a mile and bonuses I even seen a bonus in eight months. And when we do get bonuses, it’s outrageous they want to give you $35 for 70 rides, nobody’s gonna do that. The only thing we may have to look forward here in Western New York is the fact that we’re part of the New York lawsuit where we will get $26 an hour minimum for booked time. But you know what Lyft will do and Uber do just limit the amount of Right so basically it’ll just be $26 an hour

Things are getting extremely ugly. The rates here in ATL for Uber are far past the negative territory. Drivers are paying to drive for Uber and dont even know it. I saw typical trips this morning consistently at $14/hr that drivers were actually taking. Thats as a 1099 worker before taxes, before maintenance, before gas, before insurance and car payments, etc. People weretaking trip offersof $6.56 for a 29min trip. This was during peak morning rush hour with $3.50 surge. (What was the hell was the base pay??? ). I thought this past januarary was bad. Then summer came. Then summer was slow. I had no idea. I would get $4 offers and thought that was horrific. Now im seeing $3 offers for like 16minute drives. .... Sad part is its about to get far worse as the economy tanks. Far far worse.

Uber had been offering weekday and weekend quests, until this week. No Monday-Thursday quest equals no driving for me this week. Weekend offer looks decent, I'll be driving again on Friday. I need at least a $3/ride bonus from Lyft just to match the money I make on Uber with no incentives. Lyft has pushed me to drive for Uber with their low pay. It's going to take legislation to get decent pay from Lyft. Wish I was in Washington, state not DC.

I signed up for Lyft & the Hertz rental program in late June 2023. A month in I was rear ended & was NOT at fault. Lyft still marked me for the accident and sent a warning email. On Aug 12th 2023 at around 9:30pm I was giving a ride in Koreatown & we ended up stuck in traffic because a crazy guy with a gun was shooting in the street. I safely got us out of there as scary as it was. 2 days later i wake up to "Your Account Was Deactivated For Safety Concerns". On top of that Hertz forgot to mark the car returned when I returned it. I had to call them to ask why my car was still in the system and the guy on the phone said "Oh I forgot, Ill fix it". I still got charged for the extra week I wasn't even driving. Lyft refused to give me my deposit back even after I explained everything. I really just want my deposit back & the extra $69 I had to pay on top of that.

I'm literally driving to pay my gas. Talking to my last passenger and he stated he paid $15 for the ride and I got $7 for 9mile trip. I obviously didnt complain to him but that is ridiculous.

I haven't received bonus offers in ages plus Lyft owes me $. I definitely work more on Uber than Lyft because of these changes. The only reason I still work for Lyft is because the college has a contract with them for passes for students.

Risher is totally dropping the ball. Cosmetic improvements in the app are nice, but that's not MONEY. Show me the money. In my market, lyft's base pay is running 25%-30% below uber's base for similar time & miles rides. And bonuses are exactly how you described. Uber bonuses suck, but at least they're fairly consistent. Lyft's bonuses range from mediocre to NONEXISTENT. I've gone literally months with NO bonus offers on lyft. Also in my market, lyft riders don't tip.

Good video Jay, just curious about the airport rides you do for friends etc off platform. What happens if you get in an accident and that passenger is hurt. Your personal car insurance is not going to cover you if they know it's a commercial endeavor. Do you have separate coverage, and if so how much is it. I do about five of those rides a year and it scares me each time to think what would happen if we got in an accident.

Here in N.E. Ohio is really very bad now. LYFT DOES NOT pay bonus surge bubbles have greatly honr down. Weekend nights I dont see surge bubbles very much at all anymore. If i do drive toward a surge area, it quickly disappears by time I get there and they move it around playing games. I dont like games like this and only drive a few hours a week now. I AM getting a real job this week. Screw Lyft and Uber doesnt even pay me milage pay to drive to customer. They only pay you like 5 cents a minute for your time driving to pick up customer. Sfter you get to customer, then the milage pay finally kicks in for me. They will both go out of business soon.

Why don't I receive any Uber offers? Lyft is here and there, usually a couple weekends per month. It's a race to the bottom, I used to average $30 ph on Uber but closer to $24 on Lyft. Been noticing Uber getting lower fares

I’ve have passengers who would see my car dropping off someone and ask me if I can take them a few miles because they can’t get a ride on Lyft. So of course I take them and make 100% of Lyft’s lost business. I haven’t taken a Lyft ride in months. Only Lux which I only do a couple throughout the day from doing nothing but Uber.
Now they want to get rid of it? lol okay 👍
Keep it up Lyft, and I’ll keep taking your lost business of rides screwing the driver more.
They are failing to realize drivers are gradually getting smarter.

Tampa bay area is MASSIVELY oversaturated with drivers. The problem is you have a legion of immigrant drivers who are willing to drive for 20.00 an hour before expenses and you have a legion of people who are turning gig work into day labor just to pay their cell phone bill. It's low skilled labor. I am sorry for the people out there but if you want to earn an actual living at this point you need a marketable skill.
