“Ash” and “Gary” are named “Satoshi” and “Shigeru” in the original Japanese, after Satoshi Tajiri who created Pokemon and Shigeru Miyamoto who created Mario. They’re based off the game characters Red and Green but aren’t exactly the same guys.
@ Green is the boy. The American manga changed the girl’s name to Green and the boy’s to Blue because of how they released the games, but that doesn’t change their canonical real names. It’s also why Green (the boy) wears green clothing in a lot of modern artwork such as the Sun and Moon character designs or The Origin anime.
8:04 is a pun lost in translation. When Ash asks Pikachu to talk (話) to him, Pikachu misunderstands this as him saying he has "no teeth" (歯なし), thus opening his mouth to show Ash that he indeed does have teeth. Also, the reason why Misty’s hand was raised that way at 13:03 was because she slapped Ash in the original. The dub removed the slap and just freeze framed the shot of Ash responding to Misty before the slap occurred. She will do it again two episodes later, but it will also be cut out. You’re going to see a lot of these examples throughout the series.
@@SuhtiredReacts When I mean by a lot of examples, I meant changes in general, like censorship as well as stuff being lost in translation. Misty doesn’t slap Ash outside of the examples I gave. omg i remember when this came out. I was 10 years old and I got a VHS video tape in the mail that was an introduction to the whole franchise, games and anime; it had live action actors talking about the anime like it was real and they had tied it together as an introductory to the whole thing, even gave a date when the anime would first air on television. Back then, that was just a clever and creative marketing advertisement plan, but it worked, cuz before then i didn't even know what Japan was, let alone anime. It was also my introduction to cute redheads uwu (heart misty XD). But after that all of us in school were insane with the fever. Xmas later that year I got my first copies of the Pokemon games for Gameboy, Red and Blue. My older brother focused on Red while I focused on Blue.

They decided later on about Ho-Oh's coloring. The Pokemon anime is definitely interesting. Inbefore Wombology finds its way into the anime.
I think actually at this point in the series and franchise as a whole, Ho-oh didn’t actually exist. Ho-oh became this Pokemon that we see at the end of the episode.
fun fact: Charmander puts you at a distinct disadvanage in the first two gyms in red and blue, fire being week against rock and water. It is the only such case in the whole series. In yellow, where you get Pikachu as a starter, is the closest to this, where it is weak to rock, the first gym you encounter
I'm so excited to see you go on this journey! For the record, the plural form of Pokémon names is just to simply say the name without an "S" on the end of it. The first dozen or so episodes of the dub hadn't figured this out yet so you'll frequently hear characters say things like "Pikachus" or "Spearows," even though it was later established to simply be "Pikachu" and "Spearow." There's a lot in the early dub that's inconsistent with what would later be the norm for the rest of the series. One they were REALLY inconsistent about is Electric attacks still being able to hit Rock/Ground types when they really shouldn't have.

Agreed. Not because the anime needs Brock, but because they refused to let Ash's journey progress in a meaningful way until it was too late. Instead they tried resetting him not once but twice. Kalos was in many ways a return to form by presenting us with a more mature, veteran Ash again, but then they went in the complete opposite direction and trampled upon everything that came before with Sun and Moon. Dramatically different art style, characterization, and themes that made Ash's later victories feel hollow and unearned. It fills me with regret knowing that Ash's journey played out the way that it did. No meaning behind Ho-oh's multiple appearances at critical stages of his journey (even though Ash was clearly set up to be Ho-oh's chosen one who would restore harmony between humans and Pokémon), no revisiting of the GS Ball plotline - just multiple, increasingly unsatisfying league losses until the doofus version of Ash from S&M manages to win Alola's ghetto league and is suddenly paraded around as a master. That said, Ash should have won it all in the Sinnoh League. Losing the way he did there was the biggest slap in the face as a long-time fan and just gave me more reason to tune out when B&W attempted a reset.

You can chalk it up to him 'having fun' and being on vacation all you want, but the reality is that thanks to the anime having so many episodes and films we've actually seen Ash having fun and on vacation many times before - and he didn't act the way he did in S&M. This is supposed to be a veteran trainer who had demonstrably matured throughout his many travels, not a total goofball who spends a good chunk of the season as a student in a trainer school for beginners. Imagine what Paul's reaction would have been if he had caught Ash wasting time in that trainer school. And to top it all off, thanks to the new jarring art style he also looked way younger and more like Steven Universe than the Ash we grew up with. Yes, the anime needed to progress after all of these years. But guess what? Making Ash become a Pokémon Master during his 'vacation' season while facing and struggling against a bunch of novices in the Alola League was a terrible time to do it. Having to get bailed out by the referee in his battle against Hau for something that would have disqualified him in other regions just added to the feeling of illegitimacy. I would even go so far as to say that winning the Alola League felt like a less significant accomplishment than winning the Orange League, where at least there Ash had to defeat a really tough trainer with Dragonite as his ace in a 6v6 battle.
I have been looking for a way to rewatch and now If you decide to watch the series then count me in and welcome to this beautiful world. seeing the mons alive is different then the games lol some you will just fall in love with right away.
@@SuhtiredReacts that is why I judge game freak with the modern titles. don't get me wrong I have played and enjoyed all the main line titles and for 2d era 100 percent acceptable but i want a world where they are truly alive. the new scarlet and violet got close but the world was empty still fun game you will appreciate it for what it is, but one thing i wish is that the mons have the same cry as the anime. but I wanted to thank you for responding and see ya on the next episode :)

Something I think you'd REALLY enjoy is the Pokemon Origins (2013) anime. It chronicles the journey of Red, the "protagonist" of the Red/Blue games. Its only 4 episodes, but it storytelling and animation is unrivaled, and I would love to see you react to it!
@@SuhtiredReacts Its seperate from the anime, because the show is based around "Ash Ketchum" while the games are based around Red/Blue, so you can technically watch it anytime.
Yay, Pokemon Series! The first seasons where insane. xD Fun fact in the Anime manuscript only in japanese, Ashs grandmother died right when he was a baby. Grandmother has a family restaurant and after she died, Delia took over and is working on the family restaurant. Delia was a very young mother. She married a dude just for him to vanish. She is extremely pretty and every guy asked her out but she turned them down. It is even written that Ash was angry, he punched a pillow thinking of his father he never meet. Delia had at some point a computer and let Ash use it. But she said he will not find his father as a registered trainer, after years saying that his father is an awesome trainer. Ash also has a grandfather, i things his fathers father but he also vanished. Its been 10 years and Delia would not know how to react, be angry or laugh if her husband comes back, because its being so long. This information we dont get in the anime. She always keep secret who Ashs father is and in many theories, Giovanni is Ashs father. To be honest it would be cool to have Ash dealing with it that he meet his father Giovanni many times not knowing he is his biological son, finding out he is an affair kid and has half brother Silver and half sister Mars children from the Vice Team Rocket Boss Athena. Also another fact, Garys great great grandfather was a hero and the village took over his great great grandfathers name. Garys uncle or father is the mayor and its not sure if his parents are alive or death. So Gary is a wealthy brat and its not better with Oak being his grandfather, a world famous pokemon professor. xDI
The plot is very predictable each episode but very nostalgic. I recommend you watch Pokémon Origins which is basically a speed run of Pokémon Red. It's also pretty short
Damn, i haven't seen the first season in so long and that scene where pikachu is scratched up on the ground after falling off the bike hit me a bit too hard in the feelz. Almost got me tearing up here at the DMV 💀
Woho, great to see you taking on the pokemon anime! I was following your firered playthrough and it is nice to see you going back to gen 1 again. Really would like to see you react to the first movie as well. If we are going to branch out to other franchises, I am currently in to the mini-series Murder Drones by Glitch here on YT. Just 8 episodes, and I think it will fit your personality (not saying that you are neither a drone nor a murderer, but still). It is a wild show. 😊
Good work on your first reaction. Keep it up and the subscribers will eventually come rolling in. Honestly, you could go for a whole nostalgia trip. With all the 4kids shows, etc. I'm sure there's a market for it.
Okay, I don't normally follow reaction channels or that sort of content on TH-cam, but I feel heavily inclined to subscribe as someone who recently started both, playing the games for the first time (played through FRLG, currently switching between HGSS and Emerald to try and decide which I should play first) AND watching the anime in its entirety (on episode 74-ish at the moment, used to watch the occasional episode on TV but I barely remember anything from it).
Just a warning, there is a lot of weirdness in the early anime in particular as they were still figuring out how to translate the game mechanics and story into an animated format. Because of this the anime doesn't always follow things like type matchups 100% strictly and it quickly abandons things like levels as they simply don't work for an anime. The best way to reconcile the changes is to remember that Pokemon operates on multiverse theory so not every universe follows the same rules. It's also a very long series so there is a lot of retcons to reconcile the constant growth of the franchise (like the constantly increasing number of Pokemon) so you get things like Ash not aging despite the passage of time being mentioned in several episodes, movies or specials.
Theres a theory that Ash actually didn't recover from the spearow attack and it's in a coma state and all his journeys from that point on are on his subconscient, that's why he doesn't age.
Thank youtube for this great recomendation LMAO i was just lookig for some Pokémon React but i never find good ones (dunno if is Nintendo taking stuff down or not) But this is a ride lets go!
Theirs actually a very sad theory in this episode when Pikachu saves Ash from the Spearows Ash ends up getting into a coma and Pikachu dies and the rest of the entire Pokémon series is just Ash trapped in his coma but it’s just a theory so it’s probably not true
I think Pokémon trainers I imagine either they go camping in tents or they sleep in a Pokémon center, which is free healthcare basically sometimes if they are lucky, they sleep in guest house with nice people that’s my experience watching the show a lot as a kid and even now
Suhtired, That was a fantastic reaction of the 1st episode from the 1st Season of Pokemon. Also, Ash and Pikachu have a great friendship. Also, Pikachu did save him from the Spearow. Also, I am looking forward to more of the reaction episodes of Pokemon that you are planning to upload on TH-cam. Also, You look Beautiful.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I dont know if you read manga or how you would do a video a bout it, but after watching you play pokemon and now watch it, once you are done with the first part of the anime I would love too see your thoughts on Festival of Champions. Its a Doujinshi (basically fanfic manga) about Red and Green and their journey to the Pokemon masters. Its set at the Indigo League tournament, but it has a lot of flashbacks for backstory. Im reading it atm and havent had this much fun with pokemon in many years
i love it, but my only tip or personal pov is to pause in certain parts your reacting with a longrant/thoughts. i saw the video move along as you spoke, and i'm happy your watching our childhoods. i miss og pokemon!!! games and show even when some stuff is dated, but this will definitely help you say pokemon names better :D
There also was a theory for decades now that Ash was actually killed from Pikachu’s last attack against the flock of Spearows and that was why he ended up seeing Ho-oh there at the end, it is also meant to explain why he never ages in the series.
The dead/comatose theory is so dumb. It's been said about so many shows. And ash does mature throughout the series. He's at least 14 by the end of XY, although i think Sun/Moon had him go through an age reset. I don't think i watched any Sw/Sh though, so i can't speak on that
@@stephenb9510 yeah, just looked into it. I guess he's stated as being 10 throughout the series, he just seems more mature i guess. Still a smooth brain theory though

@@bobmarkerson bro its a 30 year old show lol. It’s not my fault you haven’t seen it.
I have been looking for a way to rewatch and now If you decide to watch the series then count me in and welcome to this beautiful world. seeing the mons alive is different then the games lol some you will just fall in love with right away.
Yessss!! Seeing the personalities of the Pokémon in the anime makes it 10/10
@@SuhtiredReacts
that is why I judge game freak with the modern titles. don't get me wrong I have played and enjoyed all the main line titles and for 2d era 100 percent acceptable but i want a world where they are truly alive. the new scarlet and violet got close but the world was empty still fun game you will appreciate it for what it is, but one thing i wish is that the mons have the same cry as the anime. but I wanted to thank you for responding and see ya on the next episode :)
Yes pls watch the whole things most of the movies are connected it’s great🙏
I will try to watch the whole thing~!!
Nah this was mad cute. Im 30 years old now and still love Pokemon behind the scenes. I wish I could go back and re-live these. Thanks for uploading. New subscriber here.
quite a few years back I started watching the anime through, and lost where I was in the 200s or something. gonna have to pick it up again some day
Just found this nostalgia and subbed ❤❤. (I think i was your 2000th sub, went 1.99k to 2K 😊)
Ayyyy congrats on being the lucky 2k subscriber!! 🎉 🥳
@@SuhtiredReacts still play the games to this day...hope you enjoy the kanto vibes 😊
No way. I forgot this existed. I've never seen it either so I guess I'll be watching it too with you on my time lol. I played the games but that was it. Definitely subbed now
This brings back so much memories. I've gotten so soft with age.
Something I think you'd REALLY enjoy is the Pokemon Origins (2013) anime. It chronicles the journey of Red, the "protagonist" of the Red/Blue games. Its only 4 episodes, but it storytelling and animation is unrivaled, and I would love to see you react to it!
Can I watch it anytime or do I have to finish Ash's journey first before starting Origins?
@@SuhtiredReacts Its seperate from the anime, because the show is based around "Ash Ketchum" while the games are based around Red/Blue, so you can technically watch it anytime.
Pokemon seasons 1 - 5 are my personal pick for the golden years of Pokemon. especially Seasons 1 to 3
Thank you~!! I do hope to do the movies one day 🥰
This is actually pretty cool. Crazy how more ppl dont react to Pokemon Anime.
@madnessarcade7447 Stupid Nintendo.
Great video, really enjoyable thanks 😊
Yay, Pokemon Series! The first seasons where insane. xD
Fun fact in the Anime manuscript only in japanese, Ashs grandmother died right when he was a baby.
So Gary is a wealthy brat and its not better with Oak being his grandfather, a world famous pokemon professor. xDI
This is from a non-canonical light novel I believe
WOW CANT WAIT FOR YOU TO DIVE INTO THIS ! I ONLY WATCHED THE 1ST GEN
1ST GEN SLAYS!!
Great start to an epic adventure. Ash has a lot to learn but he has the heart of a great trainer.
He’s amazing so far! He truly loves being a trainer 🥹❤️
Fire reaction 🔥 favorite episode
🥰🥰
@12:40 OH WAIT MARAM I just noticed but look what's underwater....... it's a Garydos 😅
13:16 but little did Misty know she would never get her bike back
Ahh this brings me back lol totatly forgot how much pikachu was an a**hole in the very first episode 😆 🤣 😂
Ya I was shocked (pun intended) that pikachu also was mean to Ash
It's nostalgic and iconic, but nothing like the games. Glad they at least have other shorts and series that are closer to the games.
5:53 setting up for failure?, id come back to this scene after watching the Pokemon 4ever movie
The first season of pokemon was so funny. Especially ash fighting with misty a lot, and Brock being Brock lol
“The pan can also be a hat” - Brock
Great video reaction! :)
Thank youuuu 🥰
You should watch the pokerap after each episode. It's really catchy
This wass fun :) thanks for the reaction!
Thank you for watching 🥰
This was so sweet. Thanks !
🥰🥰
Be ready for 1200+ episodes and 23 movies' worth of Ash Ketchum.
Theres a theory that Ash actually didn't recover from the spearow attack and it's in a coma state and all his journeys from that point on are on his subconscient, that's why he doesn't age.
Thank youtube for this great recomendation LMAO i was just lookig for some Pokémon React but i never find good ones (dunno if is Nintendo taking stuff down or not)
But this is a ride lets go!
start of a great journey
I just subscribe, I'm looking forward to see all the pokemon episodes again with your reaction.
Man I forgot how savage the old pokemon show was. Wish the writing was still the same.
Theirs actually a very sad theory in this episode when Pikachu saves Ash from the Spearows Ash ends up getting into a coma and Pikachu dies and the rest of the entire Pokémon series is just Ash trapped in his coma but it’s just a theory so it’s probably not true
And the reason why pikachu is insane in the anime is because he got a crazy Speed boost EV from beating all the spearow.
Happy to join your journey - Lets goooo! #squirtle (sorry, my fave).
Squirtle is amazing~!!
Welcome to Pokemon Sister 😊
I'd love If you place the reaction videos in the centre. Because that LED on the right side was distracting. Thank you ❤
I think Pokémon trainers I imagine either they go camping in tents or they sleep in a Pokémon center, which is free healthcare basically sometimes if they are lucky, they sleep in guest house with nice people that’s my experience watching the show a lot as a kid and even now
Please keep watching more pokemon!!
Thank you!! I can’t wait to see how Pikachu and ash’s friendship evolved
Well you're in for a treat🤣
Ooo that’s a good tip! Thank you! I’ll try to do that next time I’m speaking my thoughts 🥰🥰
In the original Japanese version Misty slapped Ash across the face. That's why her hand is up in the next scene.
Pikachu is so cute! Really nice anime!
He’s the best!
Iconic foist episode
Need to put your playlist in order girl….. thanks for the reaction =]
omgg thanks for the heads up!! Idk why youtube keeps messing it up 😭
There also was a theory for decades now that Ash was actually killed from Pikachu’s last attack against the flock of Spearows and that was why he ended up seeing Ho-oh there at the end, it is also meant to explain why he never ages in the series.
The dead/comatose theory is so dumb. It's been said about so many shows. And ash does mature throughout the series. He's at least 14 by the end of XY, although i think Sun/Moon had him go through an age reset. I don't think i watched any Sw/Sh though, so i can't speak on that
You are the first TH-camr I ever seen reacting to Pokémon, please complete the series, otherwise you end up other ones who started and left it away
@@sqeekydemonhis still 10 by the end of journeys
@@stephenb9510 yeah, just looked into it. I guess he's stated as being 10 throughout the series, he just seems more mature i guess. Still a smooth brain theory though
@@stephenb9510 also, to be fair, Journeys is sun/moon. Thats where i felt he had an age reset
