Depends on what you are trying to replicate. If you want the "Niandra" sound you need to get a Jaguar. That album is loaded with jag. Also, if you want the Californication era sound you'll want to get a Fender Bassman head, not Marshall. If you want the BSSM era chorus effect you'll want to get the DOD fx65, not the ce-1. Suck my kiss, Under the bridge, etc... were the DOD pedal. If you really REALLY want the Niandra tone then you're going to have to use a Pitch shifter. John would record parts and slightly speed up the recording. It gave the guitar tone a particular sound that you can't get any other way. The best way to demonstrate that is listen to "Untitled 6" and "Untitled 7". It's the exact same recording, except Untitled 6 is sped up a few clicks, and that's what gives the recording a very crisp tone compared to UNTITLED 7, which is played the original speed. Once you hear the tone on "6" you'll realize that the much of the album was done like that. That's how that album got that particular tone, that no amp can get on its own. Cheers! 🍻
@@tristianaram CE-1(the preamp part) and MXR Micro amp are two different effects that behave differently. How to sound like Frusciante: Go to the 4th dimmension and befriend spirits that will guide you through a gruesome heroin addiction, come out the other end, and write songs about your experience. 😅 EZ
When playing single notes, mute the surrounding strings and hit them for a percussive sound. It will beef up the sound and is great practice if you're wanting to improve the strength of your fretting hand. You can play Chillis songs with just one precisely struck note, but it won't sound exactly like Frusciante.
@davyholden Bro, just great. I've been following you while trying to learn Gaeilge. Now I have to figure out how to talk about overdrive and wah on my Mexican Vintera in Irish. Shit never gets easier. :-)

For anyone looking for an amp to start with. Always consider the katana. It can do literally anything, I would recommend getting the head and a cab rather than the combo, it will allow you to diversify your tone even more.
How can you not mention the Fender Jaguar when talking about Frusciante? The Jaguar basically helped define the sound on a big portion of Blood Sex Sugar Magic, and what's more iconic than the image of him playing the intro to Under The Bridge in the music video holding that sweet jag
True, but ever since then he’s used that iconic 62 strat as his main guitar on stage and in the studio when I think of johns tone I don’t think of the Jag at all tbh, this guitar is the one I think of when I think of fru

They don't sound bad, that's for sure. I prefer tube amps, but if I'm playing at someone else's house or church I always bring my Katana. They're even better when you utilize Tone Studio to gain access to even more effects/settings.
Im willing to bet that unless u bought that guitar from the guitar store i played one identical to that at that was signed then i played a replica or ive played the guitar u baught lmao
Idk man...I always tell people the most bang for the buck way to start out with only $600 max and they can sound like anyone they want with only 2 pieces of gear. ESP LTD which they can get a decent one for $150 (used) $300 (new) and a Positive Grid Spark $200 (used)$300 (new). With a extra bonus if their also on a budget for lessons Rocksmith 2014 Remastered for $30-$40 with the $30 Rocksmith cable.
I'm not sure about the amp. Boss katana is a digital amp and frusciante sound it's really analog. I don't like to be one of those guys but digital amps sound flat. Trust me. I would go first for an orange than a Boss Katana.
Practice for 8 hours a day for 5 years.
And do a shitload of heroin
I've been doing that for the past 7 months and I can play all of his songs already lol

Tells to buy a Strat with a Tele Song in the background!
Single coil pickup, different if he pulled out some thiccboy humbuckers
🤓🤓🤓
He said tele too.
Pal, John uses a Strat for 99% of his work
@@davyholden just say the majority because that percentage is wrong
Micro Amp is just a clean boost. It does not enhace the tone on its own. It is used to make some parts louder or push the amps a little more.
it’s why the alternative is the ce-1 clone, left most knob is a built in pre amp section to boost the signal and push the amp

How would you recommend setting the Boss Katana 50 mk2 to sound like Frusciante?
I too would like this answered
Danny I got all that stuff but I still don't play like John 😭 what's wrong
Can you do Tony Iommi
Not without his permission. 🤔
This is pretty amazing could you do one for kurt cobain please?
If your able and have the money am more than sure a fender ultra phoenix dumble mod
Could you do a video or tell me your amp settings for the katana, I have one and have a close sound but I want to get it closer
Try connecting it to your laptop/PC and downloading other’s tone presets in the sound you want
Not bad advice but if you wanna sound like John gear won't change anything. It's all about learning his techniques
or just practice 10 hrs a day like john did.🎸
Or for another amp you can get a Marshall DSL 20
Is that a Rory Gallagher strat?
Who is he ?
