It was just about to cost me alot of money to get hail damage repaired and came looking for some video's to see how its done. Instead im going to buy some tools, practice a few times at the junk yard and HOPEFULLY save a bunch of money. Thankyou for the video's
I will also be practicing at the junkyard... I mean my daily driver with no clearcoat left (or most of its paint for that matter...) maybe there are a few spots left that can still reflect light for dent removal!
@@edwinmedina4338the final portion is the most difficult for beginners. Usually done by being over aggressive with tapping down. Or not doing what he showed you in the video. What you think is just a big high spot your tapping down. Identifying low spots that still remain around your center high spot. Then while trying to tap your center spot while the perimeter is still low. It creates rippling. And I'm sure you've seen these. Next thing you know. It's out of control and 3 times the size of the original dent. I can recommend patience most of all. From the beginning. Easier is better. Start pulling softer. When tapping down. Go easy. When you think your not moving metal you most likely are. And mostly. Walk away for a little when you are getting impatient. That is mostly when you'll start messing things up. I've been at it about 6 years and still find myself being over aggressive or impatient. Good luck and maybe you already knew advice. But wanted to share with you.
Only been learning dent repair for about 6 months, but i really like glue pulling, especially on rails. I feel i can see the dents moving easier than on a panel that flexes more. 8ve also been finding myself getting a bit of feel for it, and adjusting how hard or soft i pull the lifter or slide hammer. Its really a finesse thing
Just had some major hail damage repaired by a very good PDR shop in my area. Car looks as good as the day I drove it off the lot. I come from the 'bondo, sand, paint' era of body repair. What you guys can do with PDR techniques just amazes me.

Oof. Try it, but go slow. It’s easy to cause more damage if you’re not trained. If you feel like you’re starting to make a mess. Get some professional help. If the hail was large enough to bust your windshield there’s a good chance that this glue pulling technique won’t be right on those dents also.

Hi, thanks for the video, what was the ambient temperature of the panel? When you feel the glue with your nail, is it to see if it dents in the glue slightly, or seems like the glue is solid? Sometimes I get a great stick and most times it pops off too early.
First step clean panel and tab with clean lint free cloth and at minimum 91% alcohol if really dirty get the buffer out and lightly buff it(this will help the glue stick and also allow your line/fog board reflect better as a bonus)...second step get panel around 70-80degf, now apply glue and stick it to dent allow to cool until glue is no longer sticky to the touch...and pull... Not an experienced pdr tech so take this with that in mind and let's hang back to see what the real experts reply with to my comment!

But on some I can't get the center to pull completely, makes like a super tiny volcano, any tips or tutorials for that?

Hey I hope you still look at comments on these. I’ve been trying to find the answer for an hour now. Can I use glue pullers if I have a paint chip on the dent?
@@Swenser absolutely not! Give it a try, I’d love to see how they work. In some areas I could see wood splitting under the force of the paddle. Especially in harder areas around the vehicle…around the edge of a sunroof, or edge of a door for instance. Even the hard PEEK material that’s often used for knockdowns tends to mushroom after some time, so I’d imagine the tip would distort eventually anyway. This industry is relatively young. Tools didn’t start really being innovated en masse until the last 10-15 years. We are always evolving and there’s still plenty of room for new ideas!
Excellent question! That’s when the real magic happens. This is an absolute beginner glue pull video. Much larger sharper and deeper dents are repairable with PDR, but it’s a more in depth process. How do you decide when and how much you need to warm the panel before pulling a dent?
Something this small doesn’t really need heat. Also you can’t heat too much with glue or it won’t harden.
i wonder if barcardis 151 would work as a glue release?????
Hahaha this sounds like a science experiment! Although isopropyl is awfully cheap…..
Is there any rule of thumb about what constitutes a dent that's too big for this method?
It’s honestly more about the depth or sharpness of the dent. Very large repairs can be completed glue pulling. Very small sharp often cannot
