    I just had my second class at Gracie Barcelona under Robin Gracie and jiu jitsu is a lot of fun. I thought I knew what it would be like to have someone lying on me in the mount but very little can prepare you for the level of tiredness I experienced. Cannot wait for the next session though.

    • @BloopShow
      @BloopShow 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gracie university/academy is run by Rener and Ryron, sons of Rorion. The Gracie family is completely divided by ideologies and lineage (even the two founders, Carlson and Helio had different ideals). Rickson, Relson, Royler, Roger, Renzo, Barra, etc.. All these schools are Gracie lineage, but in no way affiliated other than surname. They all have independent curriculums. The coral and red belts also indicate a lifetime of accomplishment in the art. The Gracies started and popularized BJJ, but nobody can own it. ;)

    • @JayFe0
      @JayFe0 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Helio Gracie also gave red belts to a few people who weren't Gracies. The BJJ I train comes down from the red belt Francisco Mansur who trained under Helio Gracie from when he was 15 years old.

    • @Maxa21Million

      After the death of Grand Master Helio Gracie, Royce Gracie decided to go back to the “old days” in honour of his master and father. He hanged his coral belt (Royce is a 7 Grau BJJ representative, thus black and red belt) and started wearing a navy blue belt, just like the Gracie Jiu Jitsu representatives used to wear prior to the creation of the Jiu Jitsu federation in 1969. During those early days, Jiu Jitsu had two colours, white (for students) and blue (for instructors).

      "It is said that in old times at the original Gracie academy there were only two belts: white for students and Navy blue Belt color for teachers.... Royce usually wears his father's original navy blue belt, not his black belt."
      In short, he's wearing his father's original belt. There weren't colored belts until a considerable time after Helio Gracie opened his academy. Some years later his son introduced more colored belts for juniors. So yeah there you have it, Navy Belt is as OG as you can get :)

    I've been to this school before in Miami, and all the student's personal possessions (wallets, credit cards, cell phones, etc) are in open cubby holes at the front of the school, ripe for the taking by the front door, while the instructors secure their personal affects in lockers with padlocks. I'd bet my left arm, no one in that school has a firearm to defend themselves against robbers. I did when I attended that school. Two in fact, and made them watch my luggage behind the front counter. Pedro Valente said, "Don't worry, no one will try to steal anything here". Umm hmm. Exactly what thieves want to hear.

      If I was a thief I'd go for a safer steal (I don't want to be found outside the gym looking like a knotted heap of bloody flesh...)
