  • So much electronics in todays motorcycles - does it make it easier/safer or does it take away the purity. Here is how I deal with it. its not the best or the only way but if it helps you give me a shout. if you do things differently let me know.
    its basically these things
Throttle response - how much you twist the throttle and how much the throttle (bodies) actually open. in rain mode, you twist more the machine opens less. at the opposite end of the spectrum is sport mode giving you the highest opening for your twist. road mode is probably in between somewhere. will differ for different bikes and tunes.
Traction control - again rain mode will be the quickest acting or most interfering and off road will probably allow the greatest amount of slip (wheel rotations without foreword motion), after rain its probably road and sport in that order. I wont have an accurate idea of how to quantify these but this is the order of progression.
ABS - the progression again is very similar to traction control - most intrusive in rain and the least in off road mode with off road pro being completely off - allowing you to 'draw' in the mud. don't take this lightly. the tiger 900 has a really good feel at the brakes but I still prefer to keep that safety net on tarmac
The tiger 900 does'nt have any control for engine braking but I won't be surprised if its tuned a bit differently for sport and off road mode
another layer that sits on top is "lean sensitive" takes your motorcycle's lean angle into account and changes the parameters to keep you upright
another layer is wheelie control - which concentrates on keeping both your tyres on the ground. no traction control = no wheelie control
I wish we could cycle through all the modes on the go and the bike retained the last mode we set it in - but they probably don't trust us all that mush and have erred on the side of caution.
    have fun, ride safe

Hi from South Africa. Your video is great. I’ve been searching in vain for detail on the modes, particularly the map and tc for off road pro. Nowhere does the manual or any other source give anything more than a conceptual description of the modes. What I’d love to see is some figures or high resolution differences between modes.
