I can't believe they were letting Brent go while he had laughter to spread, money to raise and mouths to feed.
And doing his walks for mencap which are important to him !!!
He'd made little pockets and everything
Even for home grown problems. AKA the disableds.
Like Lenny Henry, he just wanted to save some Africans.
😂😂😂😂😂brilliant
The moment he turns and sees her.. "ohhh for fs" classic
Greatest moment in comedy history
@@AW-kr9fl I agree. It is absolutely perfect.
Back when you didn't have mobile phones to show a live video/pic & HAD to turn up to arranged meetings.
Best bit of acting in the series. Gervais nailed that.
Ghastly, shallow reality - funny because vain little men think online dating will send them Greek goddesses!!
"If i want advice from you, mate, it'll be about mortgages"
"Is that my beer?"
Don't ever mention the US version in the same breath as this absolute genius writing and acting. Not even close.
It's true. I do enjoy the goofy us version but this has far more depth of character. It feels genuine
Umm the UK version was based on the US one?

Totally deaf! Ain't he.
Turkish March is good. That sticks out as it sounds jolly.
@@SéaFid I blast Symphony 9 in Em in my gym headphones whilst doing rigorous barbell rows. Surprisingly effective.
Brent aint pathetic. The whole thing was a stitch up
I'm not a plonker!
I see him as more of a chilled out entertainer.
@@Themainman555 Friend first, a boss second. Maybe an entertainer third
Brent was set up in this series. Just a hard working office manager made to look a fool in the name of entertainment. I hope he’s doing well.
The BBC must have taken what, about eight hours footage a day, and most of it was like, you know… "Oh, look. Here's a good guy, he's getting on. He's their friend as well as their boss. He's a motivator, an entertainer. There's lots of good stuff. Oh, he's made one mistake, like any human would, should we just cut that out?” ...No, what? Put that bit in, cut the other stuff out. We want a scapegoat, we want to dumb down. We wanna give them the biggest plonker of the year.
The show is just so heavy with funny little bits. Even when he's pulling the shirt apart without trying to actually damage it because it's got to go back 😅
Ha, I know that's so funny, he's so furious but not quite enough to lose the deposit on the Austin Powers outfit!
"One of those happy, bubbly ones" 😂😂😂
Cos of the eating.
NEVER the case. I've dated bigger women (as I care more about personality more anyway) & they are NEVER happy or bubbly. Usually miserable, extremely jealous & paranoid of other women. Hence why they eat.
RG is actually a very gifted actor.
Not many could pull off what he does.
I think he really is a bit like this in real life
@@troywright359He most likely isn't. Gervais said in an interview many years after The Office that he really didn't like the David Brent character, he wasn't a likeable character. Gervais has a few interviews shown on TH-cam. Totally different character.
He's a great comedy actor! But a shit stand up comedian.
Merchant and Gervais managed to craft a very timely and funny couple of sitcoms, for which Gervais happened to be a perfect actor. Time has proven that Gervais is not a talented writer, actor, or stand-up comedian.
@@playasadonejoe I don't know who you're watching but imo he's one of the best actors, writers and standups of this generation. Each to their own I guess.
The most brilliant, perfect show in the history of television. Script, casting, storylines, relatability.... The Office was nothing less than a masterpiece.
The wig, the glasses, the catchphrase...
As funny as his standup routines are, they never come close to the brilliance of making himself (his character) the butt of the jokes.
@@adamcjohns88brilliant!
Love how he doesn't actually do any damage to the rented Austin Powers shirt.

It's weird to watch the game show scene now, because Ricky Gervais is a world class celebrity, but this was the first and last time I heard about Bubble from Big Brother.
He was already more famous than the Big Brother lot at the time the clip first aired
One of the most underrated things in comedy these days in awkward silences. When he was sat at the table with his date they were silent for 17 seconds before anyone spoke! 😂

He's not my favourite actor, that would be Mr Sidney poitier.
They must have had some kind of consultants for the writing of this show like for human psychology because the interplay and dynamics are just to accurate and detailed for each character.

All the big ones… 😊
😂😂😂
Neil handled the confrontation with David so well
Nah, Neil's a cant
Says more about you than anything
@@jbri1 The real Neil emerges whenever Finchy's onscreen alongside him. Neil is just a more polished and covert Finchy.
@@jbri1 what exactly did Neil do wrong in that scene? Was he supposed to let David, who was acting like a petulant child, talk to him like that in front of everyone?
Could have been a moment for David and Neil to start building bridges. Neil asked him twice to tell him what the issue was and he didn’t. If he’d have took that moment to really have it out with him, they could have maybe got it all out on the table and possibly had more mutual respect for each other after it but that’s obviously something David was incapable of.
Seriously this is beyond genius. Every expression from every person at every moment is so poignant, I think I’m going to watch the whole thing again
"The good die young" after getting fired, ha missed that one til now.😅
For some reason it makes it even funnier when you've seen the things Ricky has done since The Office. You fully understand that Ricky admits that Brent is a bit pathetic and it makes fun of that lol.
God we have all been there .... the genius of Ricky Gervais is the way he shows it
Brilliant acting by ricky tbh
Brent's my mate and they edited this series to make him look like a plonker.
It was a stich up!
"I was already wet so the jokes on her" is a brilliant response when you think about it!! lol
I sort of liked the US office, but the original UK series is not in the same stratosphere. It is perfect in every way, the best tv show I have ever seen. I have watched every episode dozens of times and it just gets better and better. The writing is perfect, Gervais is amazing, and this opening scene is the best scene in the entire show. But you need to watch the show to get the full effect of why Brent is so frustrated.
I completely agree. The best thing about this show is that you can watch it multiple times and still find new things to laugh. The little looks to camera get me every time!
Smokin in the pub. Remember when that used to be a thing.

Lemons!?
perfect man to play a character like that
I love how the conventional old school dating culture is EXACTLY the same as the modern. Great example. Most people nowadays don't even entertain the date & just bluntly say "forget it" & walk away.
Remember Gervais once said Neil and Finchy were the two characters that were supposed to be unlikeable,
I dunno I thought Neil was a decent enough bloke really.
I always thought Lee was the most unlikeable character. just horrible
@@CS-mo7xp Yeah "Lee love Dawn, marriage?"
Suppose he had to be, imagine if he was a nice guy, but just a bit dull and boring?

Although saying that, I always found Tim a bit smug.
@@Ryan.90 yeah I think every character in it was flawed in some way, adding to the realism.

A lot of the office was so cringey but so well done. The classic dance scene is a good example. Gervais manages to do it so the audience laugh but you can still imagine that it's a guy showing himself up by going too far thinking he's actually an amazing dancer. Context is everything!
Still struggle to get through the date segment 😬
Right up there with "Can we not talk about my dead mother's breasts?"🤣
