I am so glad I found this channel, it is pure joy! I’ve gotten so many great book recs I had no idea existed. Miranda, I really appreciate your description of the books you read, it helps so much. My Dad was in WW2 so I love to read any stories about that. I’m really getting into reading the classics thanks to you! Blessings to you and your Mom! 💐
Thank you for bringing vintage books to our attention. I've been able to find a few of them at my local library and I'm enjoying them immensely. By the way, beautiful top/dress!
Watching your vlog is always a delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon ! Your words about Little Boy Lost were so impassioned and vivid that I can’t resist: I must read it! Thank you for your precious advice and for selecting especially lovely objects and cards to show us ❤
Believe it or not, I’ve never read “Anne of Green Gables.” Yet I’m a Canadian. That’s like not being able to ice skate if you’re Canadian!⛸ (I’m not so good at that, either.) I’ve promised myself to read this book in time for April’s “Comfort Book Club.” It’s my patriotic duty.
I'm wondering how the book would be to someone reading it for the first time as an adult. As an unusual side note I was reading it was banned in occupied Poland during WWII. I am going to have to do more research on that.
I have three complete sets of the Anne series, it speaks to my heart throughout my life, as I age along with Anne. Each stage of her life is so well explored; so relatable even now. The final novel featuring young Rilla raising her War Baby, as her siblings travel overseas to serve in WW 1 is both heart breaking and hilarious. It is so far from Anne’s own childhood experiences, and yet her personality is still a backbone within her daughters story. I cannot imagine not knowing Anne and her family, not being “ of the Race that knows Joseph”.😊
Montgomery is one of my favourite authors. I love the Anne of Green Gables series, so heartwarming. She doesn’t shy away from stories featuring loss and grief, but manages to keep things light.
So glad to hear you've found a good tenable solution for Seasons of Story. The start of the year has been busy. I had this idea about embracing the colder and darker season by taking the opportunity to slow down and enjoy reading and time for reflection. Didn't quite work out that way... But I have found time to read some essays. The Alison Uttley collection sounds good.
You always make my day!! The Anne books are a particular favourite of mine since childhood (I'm 70 now). Two of my favourites are Anne's House of Dreams and Anne of Ingleside. Also, I have discovered Patricia Wentworth's Miss Silver just in the last year of so and now have 20 of them....I'm loving them so much! Thank you so much for your wonderful channel.
Long awaited vlog! I really enjoyed it.Thank you again for introducing me to the works of Alison Uttley and Rosemary Sutcliff. Best regards to you and your mother!
horrible weather, flooding, gale force winds, construction in the neighborhood- sounds exactly like the past few weeks here in San DIego! Thanks for somehow finding the time to create another little space of beauty and interest in all this- very appreciated. Hope to join Seasons of Story very soon!
I’ve just ordered Little Boy Lost from my local library, Miranda. I’m old enough to just about remember Marghanita Laski from when she used to appear on What’s My Line in the 60s. I recall a fierce intellect, but I’ve never actually read any of her books. I’m looking forward to correcting that, so thank you for the recommendation.
I have quite a few Alison Uttley books and a favourite local walk of mine goes past the farm where she grew up and features in so many of her books. I feel I know the landscape so much better.
Seasons of Story is looking so wonderful, Miranda. You've obviously worked so hard on it. The new book club sounds great but I just can't afford a paid subscription at this point in time 😢 hopefully soon! I love your 'favourite things' videos - thank you for sharing these lovely reads/bits and bobs! x
I agree! I also have grown up with all the Anne of Green Gables books. They were my best friends 🥰 I love the beautiful mugs too. Thank you for the video xxx
I just love your content in these weird times. They’ve really kept my mind sane. You’ve really encouraged my reading since I found your channel a year ago! You also brought me a deep desire to own an Emma Bridgewater mug to enjoy with my reading! I’m in the US & splurged and ordered one only to have it arrived shattered 😢! Alas, another is on its way to me & hopefully intact! You and your mom are such a stress reliever. Thank you SO much for the hard work you put in. I thoroughly enjoy the comfort book club and can’t wait to see your latest recommendations.
Another fascinating vlog Miranda.. Thank you. I cannot believe I havent read 'Anne of Green Gables'. I think it would have helped me when I was growing up after losing my mother and me having the same name. I love reading memoirs of WW2 as my parents both served in the forces as did all of my mother's family. ❤😊 I love your dress too. I have just finished 'The Salt Path' which is so inspirational.
Hello Miranda - I’m a very new subscriber and I live in Tasmania (the little island state of Australia). My great grandparents moved here from Bingley in Yorkshire in 1909 - when we visited the UK almost 10 years ago we spent a week in Yorkshire and it felt so comfortable and homely. I’d like to say how much I’m enjoying your podcast and thank you for the recommendations - I’ve been especially attracted to “Homecoming” by Kate Morton (and her other books too!) - I’m very much looking forward to reading it - warm wishes from Elizabeth 😊
Another lovely video, Miranda. I've heard good things about the Substack platform and am happy to know you have found a home there. You put a lot of work into producing your content and it is nice that this platform will guarantee a return on the investment of your time. I am sorry to hear that Handheld will be shutting down. I have several of their books and will need to check out other titles while they're still available. I am now going to search out a copy of Little Boy Lost as I am keen to discover that final line!
Thanks so much for your kind comments, Gail! They’re so appreciated. I’m sad about Handheld Press too. I really hope you love the Laski as much as I do 😄❤️📚
Really liked this video Miranda and always look forward to you sharing your favourite things. Watching the television series Ann of Green Gables was one of the highlights of my life! My Aunt lived in PEI and I enjoyed a visit years ago to see her and experience Green Gables. It was all so lovely. Looking forward to subscribing to Seasons of Story😊📚
Another video full of delightful things! Those were beautiful copies of the Anne of Green Gable books. You always find the best vintage copies. ‘Yoked with a Lamb’ sounds like my kind of book. And thank you for introducing me to Lore Pemberton’s work!
My mother was a great Anne of Green Gables fan and named me after her. I inherited all her Harrap hardback copies of the series but it has been many years since I read them. Inspired by your book club choice for April I have just finished the first in the series and, like you, I am going to go on and read the rest of the series. Probably through the year and not by April though. It is so lovely to go back into Anne's world, I had forgotten how descriptive Montgomery is with her writing and Anne's habit of giving beautiful names to places. Thank you for getting me back to Avonlea.
Hi Miranda! I'm currently reading "Yoked With A Lamb," and I'm enjoying it. But I, too, noticed quite a few typos and incorrect words in my book as well. No pages have fallen out, though. 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to create another beautiful video. L M Montgomery really is comfort reading. Of her work ‘Anne of the Island’ is my absolute favourite novel and I am always surprised how little is it talked of. ‘Rilla of Ingleside’ and ‘Kilmeny of the Orchard’ are also lovely. Happy reading!
that series is Canadian!!!! i LOVED it!!! later there was a tv series called ''road to avonlea'' based on the story girl. it starred sarah polly!!! it was thge same vibe and also on CBC
I am catching up with some of your recent videos and so enjoyed this one. You describe books so well and with such warm enthusiasm I always want to rush to read all of them straightaway! I loved the beautiful cards and pictures you showed us too. Loré Pemberton is one of my very favourite artists, I’ve been collecting her prints for several years and adore all the cosy details in them. I was sorry to hear Handheld Press is finishing next year, they publish such an interesting range of titles. Congratulations on launching Seasons of Story on Substack! I am sure you must be so busy with all you accomplish! I have really enjoyed Seasons of Story and hope to subscribe in a while, as I am currently doing a bit of New Year economising, but meanwhile I so enjoy and appreciate all your other content, thank you for adding a lot of joy and inspiration to life!
Yay! A new video from you! I love the Anne of Green Gables books, though I think I've read the entire series only once. I have read the first book several times, and I love the Megan Fellowes series too. Looking forward very much to Seasons of Story in its new home, and to the new book club!
Dear Miranda, as always, a lovely video. Even though I only listen to audiobooks, ( vision problems) I still enjoy watching your videos and your descriptions of the books. Every so often I do find a book you recommended, on audio. Thank you.
Hello Miranda, such a lot of lovely things in this video and I am very tempted by the Molly Clavering book Yoked to a Lamb. It is so good to have a list of your recommendations in the drop down menu which I often return to and always find something I might like. Enjoy using all your new china, so pretty and the heart trinket box is very sweet. ♥
Thank you for this video and thank you so much for launching your wonderful seasons of story on substack. I am enjoying it enormously. Please take some time to rest and recharge as you thoroughly deserve it. That trinket box is such a lovely gift from your Mum! I am going to reread Aof GG very soon! Much love. X
Really enjoyable to see you again! 🙂 ! Exciting to hear all you've been up to. I LOVE the Anne of Green Gables series! Have read them all and so many of L.M. Montgomery books. Yes, her descriptions of nature are truly amazing. The cards and postcards are beautiful. I have been a letter writer for many, many years and appreciate lovely stationary. LOVE the "Tea with Mom" tray! So sweet! Happy Valentine's Day, Amanda!
Lovely as usual! I love your reading project through the Anne series, and I can't wait to hear more of your thoughts about it. I re-read Rainbow Valley for the first time in a long time recently and loved it so much. I love Lore Pemberton! I have a print I love with a young woman on the beach with her beach cottage up on the hill. Those Claudia Lowry cards are beautiful. My mom's favorite flower is the sweet pea so I'm always on the lookout for sweet pea cards for her for Mother's Day and her birthday.
Anne of Green Gables is perpetually fresh! Such a wonderful book! I haven’t read the others either - always concerned they won’t live up to the first! 😅
Oh, I love the book by Montgomery as well as the movie from 1986, too. What beautiful portrayals by Megan Follows as Anne and Colleen Dewhurst as Marilla.
Absolutely cannot wait to look at your new subscription offer, the parts of Seasons of Story I have looked at have been exquisite and so interesting educational and inspiring so it is very exciting news. It sounds like superb value too (was expecting it would be far more) as even when at first thought I may have thought I could not afford it, broken down it is about a coffee and a half from a cafe, per month. I am absolutely sure I could skip 2 coffees a month (terrible habit anyway) in exchange for such a beautiful offer. You have worked so hard and we are lucky to be able to access this so….wishing you the very best of luck with it and I look forward to joining in the next few days X
Beautiful artwork, my favorite Burleigh pattern (what a lovely gift from your Mum, as well as the rose Emma Bridgewater items from you to her!), and great book recommendations, especially Little Boy Lost, Danger Point, and Yoked with a Lamb, all of which I’m sure to enjoy! Wishing you and Donna a more settled week ahead, both weather-wise and personally!!❤❤
Another lovely vlog. I do love Little Boy Lost and agree that it's a powerful story about love lost and found. For some reason the little boys gloves stick in my head. The other titles sound interesting and I may have to look them out too. Beautiful prints and gorgeous china , you both have such great style. All the best for Season of Stories on Substack 🎉❤
What a lovely selection, thank you for sharing! I am really enjoying being a part of "Seasons of Story" and I can highly recommend it for anyone who may be considering it. I dip in and out of it often and always find something I haven't read before. With so much going on and so many different platforms, I am interested to hear about how you manage to juggle that and structure your working day and work/life balance (athough I suspect that has been tricky of late!) - I would love to hear about that perhaps in a future video. I work mostly from home and have done since lockdown but I still struggle with this. I really love how passionate you are when talking about a book you have read. Wishing you a more relaxed week this week! x
Thank you so much, Sue! I'm so glad you're enjoying Seasons of Story! I definitely haven't had much work / life balance lately, but hopefully that will improve 😉
I found 10 o’Clock Scholars at Thrift Books and ordered it! I love Alison Uttley’s writing and can’t wait to read it. Thanks for the recommendation of the Miss Silver book, it’s one I haven’t read. And, yes, I have noticed that some of Patricia Wentworth’s female characters are spineless but do you think she is using them as foils for Miss Silver, who is so capable and independent? I have thought about that myself.
Dear Miranda, it is a pity that Alison Uttley's essays are so hard to find, because that would be my first choice among the titles you mentioned, followed by Little Boy Lost. Have a lovely week, may it be more spring-like in Yorkshire 🤗🌻
Up to five feet of snow (150 cm) fell in Nova Scotia, last week , Sydney was hardest hit and yesterday it's snowed again ... up to 20 inches (50 cm )😳...but Anne with an E would have thought it magical......❄❄❄🤗❄❄
Hi Miranda - it’s so wonderful to see that you’re back! I just finished Devil Land. It’s a really great, informal history that challenged me. I’m also almost finished with Patricia Brent, Spinster. What a great, fun, delightful book! I’ve also read Storm In The Village and have fallen in love with Miss Read! Lastly, I splurged (due to the pricey shipping costs - I live in the states) and bought a beautiful Emma Bridgewater mug that is on its way to me! Thank you again for all that you do, and will try to subscribe (paid) to your Seasons of Story.
Beware, the Miss Silver mysteries can be addictive for those susceptible to the characters, settings, and rhythms of the Golden Age. The whole is more than the sum of the parts. Some of the plots are quite fantastic, bordering on melodrama, but she charms a reader into "the willing suspension of disbelief", for the sake of going along for a good ride. I appreciate your recommendation of Patricia Wentworth's books. I'll move Danger Point up on my TBR list.😊
Lovely as always, to hear what you’ve been reading and enjoying. Will definitely be seeking out Rachel Grant’s work, and maybe time to re-read Little Boy Lost, which made a big impact on me when I first read it. The account of France in the immediate period post-war was fascinating and the emotional story so heart-wrenching. Sad news about Handheld Press, I particularly enjoyed Business as Usual, published by them. Have a good week! And hoping the weather settles down for outdoor jaunts x
Thank you for posting your lovely vlog. I do hope that your mum & yourself are ok Miranda. I know it’s the season for coughs & colds & you sound like you are suffering with a croaky voice/throat. I know it’s easy to say & hard to achieve when you are so busy but please try to look after yourself & take some time out for self care. Spring is just around the corner & the weather will improve soon enabling you to get out more. Take care Miranda, sending you love & hugs from Sharon in Leicester xx
I really enjoyed your Sunday vlog and I love the pretty ceramic Burleigh heart. I’ve recently finished reading Herald of Joy by Pamela Belle. After reading Wintercombe, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next and I loved both books.
Well, I'll have to read, "Little Boy Lost." When Miranda Mills states that it has one of the best last lines in literature, is there really a choice !! 😉
I just picked up a book yesterday that, as soon as I saw it immediately knew was one you would definitely love. It's called My Wild Garden: Notes From A Writer's Eden by Meir Shalev. It's translated from Hebrew by Joanna Chen and has glorious garden/floral/nature illustrations by Rafaella Shir. It's published by Schocken Books, New York. It even includes snippets of poetry. I could just stare at the cover alone for minutes on end.
Some lovely recommendations and your Substack has definitely been a highlight of the week for me. Another artist I love who does lovely cosy scenes is Lucy Almey Bird, I would recommend checking out her prints and cards too ❤
Dear Miranda, thank you for this wonderful vlog! You seem to have a really busy time right now. Hopefully the builders will be done soon. I am always interested in getting to know new artists and I would love to read "A ten o'clock scholar" Good, that I've already got it in my collection. I have a tiny question. Since I follow you everywhere I'm not sure where to find the interview with Gavin Plumley. I would like to listen to it again and thought it was in seasons of story when I first listened to it, but now I can not find it there. Thank you so much for your help😊 Have a lovely week with lots of sunshine❤
So glad you enjoyed the video, Inga! No, the interview wasn't posted on Seasons of Story (although it is linked to, at the bottom of his article that he wrote for Seasons of Story); it's on my blog: mirandasnotebook.com/blog/gavinplumley Enjoy! x
So glad you made another video, Miranda! Looking so much forward to it every week. I love ‘the lost art of keeping secrets’ although I could’t find it in print, only as e-book. You always have the best recommendations. Looking forward to read Ann of Green Gables in April. Have you seen the serie ‘Road to Avonlea’? It is my favorite series of all time. You worked so hard on Substack. Congratulations with your achievement!! I want to be a part of it but I don’t know much about it. Is it an app? Or do I get an email when you post something on it? And how often will you post? Do you also post your commonbook place there? Well have a wonderful week and blessings to you and your dear mother ❤️ Greetings from the Netherlands (and sorry for my spellingmistakes 🙈)
I also just finished “Yoked with a Lamb” and it is darker than the rest of the MC I have read. So far, it’s my least favorite of her works. Glad you are going to try some other titles!
Sounds really great news - wish you all the best for the new start. 📚🩵📚 I always enjoy so much your vlogs, recommendations, journeys and all 'bookish' things. THANKS a lot !
It's funny how feeling stressed or overwhelmed in the present inspires a craving for nostalgia. So comforting. Thank you 🫖☕️🍰
I am so glad I found this channel, it is pure joy! I’ve gotten so many great book recs I had no idea existed. Miranda, I really appreciate your description of the books you read, it helps so much. Thank you for bringing vintage books to our attention. I've been able to find a few of them at my local library and I'm enjoying them immensely. By the way, beautiful top/dress!
Always happy to see you on Sunday. Book covers are so colorful as are the descriptions.
That’s so kind of you, Mary! ❤️📚
Thank you so much for linking me into a world of books I knew were what I was yearning to read, but didn’t realise were actually available.
Watching your vlog is always a delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon ! Your words about Little Boy Lost were so impassioned and vivid that I can’t resist: I must read it! Thank you for your precious advice and for selecting especially lovely objects and cards to show us ❤

Oh, I love the book by Montgomery as well as the movie from 1986, too. What beautiful portrayals by Megan Follows as Anne and Colleen Dewhurst as Marilla.
Love your videos Miranda. You have a soothing nice voice . It really makes me happy to watch your videos .
I loved Anne of Avonlea, my favorite so far. Currently reading Anne of Windy Poplars. Great series.
I always really enjoy your Favourite Things !
Danger Point was so good! I have that same edition. I love Patricia Wentworth thanks to your videos on favorite classic mysteries!
Oh I'm so glad you're a Patricia Wentworth fan now too! 😊
Fun to see The Unsuspected. Hoping to go to NYC’s Mysterious Press Bookshop next week. They publish all those American Mystery Classics.
I just signed up for a year's substack membership. I am really looking forward to even more beauty you and Donna add to the world!
Thank you so much!! I hope you enjoy being a part of Seasons of Story ❤️
Thanks so much, Mhairi! So happy you’re also a Little Boy Lost fan! ❤️📚
That's an interesting idea! Maybe so! xxx
I'm very slowly reading the Anne series. Next up is Windy Poplars!
Currently reading Nancy Mitford's The Pursuit of Love. Julie Andrews first memoir talks about the surviving the London Blitz in the beginning.
Loving these videos as always and some more great recommendations ❤
I have never read “Anne of Green Gables” but loved watching the series on TV.
It’s such a wonderful series and very true to the books ❤️📚
Good to see you back!
Thank you, Sharon. I'm fine, just rather tired as it's been a very busy time. Things should start to get a bit calmer now though! xxx
I really enjoyed your Sunday vlog and I love the pretty ceramic Burleigh heart. I’ve recently finished reading Herald of Joy by Pamela Belle. After reading Wintercombe, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next and I loved both books.
So enjoy this channel. I hope your subscriber numbers grow and grow!
Well, I'll have to read, "Little Boy Lost." When Miranda Mills states that it has one of the best last lines in literature, is there really a choice !! 😉
It's such a moving book, and the last line is so impactful!!
Have you read LM Montgomery’s series “Emily of New Moon”?
Yes, I love them!
ooh love Claudia Lowry's work, thank you for sharing.
I also have the “not seeing straight” quirk. I struggle with cutting straight, drawing a straight line, even parking straight. It’s frustrating!
Some lovely recommendations and your Substack has definitely been a highlight of the week for me. Another artist I love who does lovely cosy scenes is Lucy Almey Bird, I would recommend checking out her prints and cards too ❤
Thank you so much, Sarah! So glad you're enjoying my Substack, and thank you for the artist recommendation ❤️
I am so glad I'm not alone. I too can't cut straight to save my life either!😂
Thank you so much for your help😊
Have a lovely week with lots of sunshine❤
So glad you enjoyed the video, Inga! No, the interview wasn't posted on Seasons of Story (although it is linked to, at the bottom of his article that he wrote for Seasons of Story); it's on my blog: mirandasnotebook.com/blog/gavinplumley Enjoy! x
Thank you very much!❤
So glad you made another video, Miranda!
There is no such thing as bad weather only unsuitable clothes😉
Filming in pouring rain, gale force winds, or snow is never much fun for me (whatever my clothes!)
I also just finished “Yoked with a Lamb” and it is darker than the rest of the MC I have read. So far, it’s my least favorite of her works. Glad you are going to try some other titles!
Love your dresses/tops. Hope you don't mind me asking where they are from? Ruth
Usually, Seasalt. Thank you ❤️
❤❤❤
💕
