    Long-haired kitties must have a terrible time keeping themselves clean when they can never go inside. I used to think it was kind of restrictive to never allow them outside but I've since changed my mind. In a split second they could be attacked, by either other animals or humans with bad intentions. I would try to make their indoor environment complete for them, with both stimulating activities and room for them to rest and enjoy some peace and quiet. Safety comes first!

    People don't get that a lot of ferals can honestly be tamed and turn into phenomenal indoor cats! We had a semi-feral girl that we managed to coax indoors eventually after she had her kittens on our deck. That was 13 years ago come April. We lost her to heart failure on Nov 1st last year. She passed quietly laying beside my husband on our couch. We currently have a full feral orange tomcat we are working on. This year is year 3. He's gone from doing his fake out lunges/swipes/hisses and growls every time we took food out to him to now he talk to us and though he still hisses at times, he comes running when we call him. Still won't let my husband or I touch him but its okay we are patient. We do worry about him as we live in the country and there's coyote's and even the occasional bobcat and cougar thats been spotted on trail cameras by folk in the areas near us. Still though he shows up almost like clockwork every morning perched up on the framework of the roof of our deck thats attached and covers half of our roof. Our neighbor helped me out one night after we had gotten so much rain it had caused flooding. I hadnt seen Spice (it fit he was/is a spicy boy lol) in a couple of days and had started worrying when i hear this Very pittiful meow coming from above me. I turn around to see a wet very unhappy kitty looking down at me. He had gotten Up on our roof using our cats catio wood frame to climb up and down from each day only, when it flooded he lacked the confidence to leap down onto our deck due to his fear of getting cornered. So i called my neighbor as my husband was out of town for work and told him my idea. He came over with his son and with the help of wood we had, created a set of "Steps" for Spice to use to go up amd down safely. He's chosen to keep using his interesting access to our roof and every morning when one of us opens our front door we hear the distinctive meows as Spice greets us. He's showing signs of Wanting contact and Wanting affection more and more. "Making Biscuits" on the steps, rubbing and head butting up against the support post of the deck roof, even sitting down by his food dish and looking at the door waiting on us. Just hasnt gotten the courage to Ask for the pets from us yet. I think he's even actually Pawed at the door a couple times if we are late on his food as i've heard scratch sounds but dismissed them thinking they were one of our I door cats.
    When you have the time and patience to invest in rehabilitating a feral cat, the Rewards and Benefits turn into what you see in this video! ❤❤❤❤

    Where I live you can't get cats into Humane Society or rescues - it took over 6 months to have one of ours get into the shelter. They are always full beyond capacity. They don't seem to use their funding right or something. People like me TNR because at least it helps stop the cycle of breeding because there aren't other options (at least it stops more unborn kittens from suffering). Not many folks want a cat here. Many that are looking to get a cat, aren't appropriate homes. We have dog rings and lab bunchers here and you really have to screen adopters. Our Humane Society adopted out 300 less animals this past year. That's bad news. I want to see fosters and caregivers recognized as part of the solution. I think it would help so much. I realize shelter overcrowding is a problem, but so is leaving friendlies with no caregiver. Then again, I live in a place where unowned cats/wandering cats are seen as vermin. I think that's ridiculous. What's your thoughts on the situation I'm describing?

    • @DatCat809
      @DatCat809  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @LilahsLoveLLC that's shame people look at cats in that type of light, people can be heartless...humans are selfish and can be just ignorant to cats....cats are loving wonderful souls, for people who use them as bait are disgusting animals themselves, what kind of person would do that? In my State that is highly punishable.

    • @DatCat809
      @DatCat809  7 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@LilahsLoveLLC what you need to do is talk to people in your area, dog or cat rescues, people who know things or believe it or not, could actually help you with food or even free TNR if they have the donations to help you out....anything is possible, you just need to bump into the right person who can see how much you care....your passion....perhaps you could even do a foster based cat rescue and do what you can, do a non-profit and eventually 501c3...that's what I'm going to do.....do little fundraisers...bake sales, local pet stores.....anybody can do it...do what you love and say less to the Government while your at it.

    Hi! His ears seem slighty flattened or pressed to the sides (?) which could indicate that he is in some sort of pain (cats tend to hide any weakness so they can seem pretty normal even if they are in pain).. Has his teeth been checked by a veterinarian?
