  • I designed and built a new ski sled for fast runs on no winter maintenance roads. It is designed to steer very well and be strong and light. This is my favorite DIY project ever!
If you'd like to see my testing video, you can find that here: • Sledding Down a Road o...
I also have a video on my second channel focused purely on the design of the sled: • Designing My New Ski Sled

So I actually made this from your designs. It was the first major engineering project I undertook, And I definitely learned a lot from it. I did deviate a little bit from your design in a few small ways, but the majority of it is more or less the same. I’ve got some ideas for refining/improving some aspects of it. Feel free to reach out if you are curious what my thoughts are.

I haven't heard this many "interlink" since Balde Runner 2049, cool video tho 👍

Haha. I guess I do say that a few times 😉

Well done! Well done, sir. Why did you ditch the springs?

I really think you should apply your skills to building a gt snowracer type sled. Things they don't have you could add are shock absorbing front and rear, handbrakes on each side (could help with steering). There's no reason you couldn't add a removable electric motor with a track. C'mon!

Do you happen to remember how much this rig weighs?

Beautiful craftsmanship and attention to detail. Have you tested it?

Thanks William. I have once. Conditions weren't ideal, but the steering worked better than on my first sled. I just posted the video: th-cam.com/video/NMkbxMxU9ko/w-d-xo.html

Hey there! I'm following along with your build here and I am having one heck of a time finding shocks online that are below even 500lbs at the lowest. IDo you have the website where you got your shocks from for your original build of the MKI?
Great video by the way and thank you so much for the detailed plans on your website. I really enjoyed your content!

I'm in the exact same boat. Either rc cars or 500#. Got a plan for a different type of suspension but don't want to find out it doesn't work after the fact

@@nateb4543 Yeah I was looking at some of those RC ones and wasn't sure if it would be able to support the weight especially with bounces. I've ordered two sets of shocks now that both don't work for this project and I was only able to return one of the sets and now I'm out $40 and have four shocks that are way too burly.
I've been thinking of adding different suspension myself but haven't come to a good conclusion on any. Plus the shocks are so simple. Let me know if you have something else that might work, I'd be happy to help or offer suggestions.
If you do find any that work for you PLEASE let me know where you got them. I'd love to finish this project up. Cheers.

@@toddanderson9800 is your build similar to the video? I'm planning one mainly out of boredom, get avg 3" snow a year so not practical. What i have in mind is one that you sit on and steer like a bike. Ideally, the handlebars could be adjusted and it could be used laying on ones back and steered with the feet, or on your chest like the one here. It'd be cool to be able to add a motor and a track down the road. I agree that using something thats proven is preferable but don't want to end up stuck with something that doesn't work.

@@nateb4543 I left space and measurements for shocks but I'm sticking with his design for the most part. I adjusted a few measurements to my liking as well since a few of them were a little goofy.
And that sounds like a big project. Could be hard to configure the two designs of sitting up and laying down as well. I would recommend some kind of detachable seat with wing nuts or something. If your seat is low enough like a go cart seat then you should be able to get away with pretty similar steering layout to his. You would likely need a rack and pinion system for the steering wheel if you choose to go that route, could be a little tricky.

@@toddanderson9800 it's likely going to be like a bench seat. It'll sit higher than this but primarily designed for a kid. The front would be like a bike but the handlebars with a hinge. I was thinking adjustable seat if it was only for sitting on and where a second seat could be added. It's a major project and really an excuse to try out a welder I now have access to. If I were smart I'd make a go kart that can be converted to a sled
