Thank you very much for this recipe and tutorial, very simple and interesting. The soap very clear. I saw that amount of lye used was double that required for saponification of the ingredients, how about it?
THIS RECIPE IS SO INCORRECT! You’re using more lye than water! Whether one is making cold process or hot process or glycerin soap, the lye amount will Never be more than the water amount‼️ 190 Oz’s of coconut oil‼️😫 93 Oz’s of lye‼️ You’re saying grams but have your recipe in Oz’s‼️ For those who don’t know you’re giving wrong amounts written and spoken‼️
Yes, she is confusing everyone. She didn't even answer any of her subscribers whoever tried her recipe and didn't get the outcome soap as she got. She really doesn't like to help her subscribers.
Exercise patience, she is doing this for free, so let's be kind I converted the Oz and this is what I got 1 Oz to my best knowledge is equal to 28 gr so e.g. coconut oil 190 Oz x 28 = 5,320 Coconut oil - 5,320 gr Stearic acid - 2,800 gr Water for lye - 3,080 gr Lye crystals - 2,604 gr Propylene glycol - 532 gr Glycerin - 98 gr Sorbitol - 8,960
your video is nice, but the receipe in description is no clear whether it is in grams or oz. please clarify it and again give the correct receipe if possible. thanks
Can you please convert your glycerin, glycol and sorbitol into ml or litre? Because in description, you used oz in all and 3.5 of glycerin and 19 of glycol won't give such quantity. Please explain more. Thanks
Hi, everyone. Her recipe is and isn’t correct but we were able to figure it out ourselves. My company is Modern Skyn Alchemy and we make loofah soaps but we’re using a third-party to manufacture our melt and pour in the past. Obviously, we wanted more control and decided to search for a recipe that would work and we did. You can follow her directions to a point however, I can’t see how letting the soap sit without external heat works as the soap solidifies in an off-white color. Here is my version of her recipe. I hope this helps: 190 grams coconut oil, palm oil, cocoa butter, or shea butter (we tried it with white shea butter and it came out beautiful) 100 grams steric acid 110 grams water (yes, I know if very little water but trust the process) 93 grams lye 320 grams sorbitol 19 oz propylene glycol (yes, it is in ounces and not grams) 3.5 ounces glycerin (again, it IS ounces) Instructions: -Heat oil and steric acid to about 150ish F -Mix in water with lye and glycerin -add lye to oil/steric acid mix and in oil mix/break apart until it’s very dry and grainy (almost like small pieces of ground beef or even wet sand) and cover with foil (it will get very hot like she stated as the oil and lye are much hotter than making cold-process soap. I personally let mine sit for 30 minutes but continued to mix and break apart after 15 minutes every five minutes (let sit for the first 15 minutes, mix and break up, let sit another five minutes, mix and break up, etc.) -I then add the propylene glycol and sorbitol and blend well. -The last step is different than what she said. When I followed her instructions to just let it sit overnight, I got a white melt and pour soap that is clear on the bottom but whiteish on the top. I also am not in a position to just let the soap sit around as I’m a manufacturer. The soap will cure and clarify if kept at 150-160 F. You can do this by using a low temperature heating element. We found a wax melting pot that heats very low: a.co/d/2mpyxIL and stir regularly or you can use a double boiler one pot with water and another on top and keep checking the temperature. You’ll notice the soap begin to turn translucent or a very pail gold. You can also set aside the sorbitol and add at the very end if you’re worried about the soap getting too dark. -Once everything is blended and clear, we immediately added colors, clays and essential oils to mold. We decided to skip molding unscented soaps only to melt and remold later. This is a great recipe for a DIYer but I wouldn’t make a business selling large quantities using this recipe as this recipe is extremely time consuming (only you know if your time is worth it versus paying more but churning out hundreds of soaps) but if you purchase all the ingredients on Amazon, you’d save up to 50% (maybe more) versus buying through a supplier (we ourselves are saving $15 per 25 lbs by manufacturing it with this recipe and we pay one of the lowest prices in melt and pour (our cost is $75 per 25 lbs of soap and no shipping as we buy local), so the average person has to be saving so much more. We decided to use up all our raw materials and manufacture as much of this soap as possible and go back to getting it from our original supplier. I hope my message helps and wishing you all happy soaping! Again, great idea for a small Etsy-like business but not for a larger-scale company. I hope this helps!
