When my partner and I were in LA in February, I insisted on going to legendary restaurant Dan Tanna's in West Hollywood. After a lengthy wait for our table, we got a booth and our waiter asked us if we were locals or from out of town. We told him we were visiting from Canada and his eyes lit up and he sidled beside me in the booth excitedly, asking me if we could name some '70s Canadian rock acts he had heard and loved, but couldn't remember the band name--he only knew they were from BC. Instantly, I said "Chilliwack?" and he jolted up and clapped his hands with an enthusiastic "YES! That's the band! Thank you!!!" He comped our delicous appetizers and all our (very strong) drinks. Thanks, Chilliwack!
The karmic resonance of 70's Canadian rock permeates the consciousness of the entire human population. You hear it once, you are changed forever. We were truly blessed. ❤❤❤
Thirty Five years later Bill Henderson did a live version on the Taylor James show that will blow you away. "Bill Henderson of Chilliwack performs 'Fly at Night' " Thanks Harri.
My husband was in the band he just passed away a few months ago, it was so cool to see him on the album cover that you have their really enjoyed your reaction❤
Originally called The Collectors, this hit was released by Chilliwack, a great Canadian 🇨🇦 band in 1977. This song is a story of travel at night while trying to make it big, waking up in a new town. The beautiful opening with an acoustic guitar and the singer grabbing your full attention, then the electric guitar replaces the acoustic, followed by the drums and the electrified bass. Then back to the acoustic to tie in the chorus. Such a great Rock tune. Made it to Number 3 in Canada and Number 75 on the Billboard Hot 100's. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Louie. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
The Band was named after the Salish term for "valley of many streams" - Chilliwack also happens to be the name of a city in B.C. They are not from Chilliwack.
Thanks Louis. I’ve heard so many Canadian bands on Harri’s channel. I had no idea I had been missing out on so much great music from my northern neighbors. Harri always does great reviews too!🌺✌️

You're right Harri, this song got tons of airplay in Toronto where I grew up. I'm not sure if Chilliwack had much international success but they were huge in Canada. I particularly loved their layered harmonies and searing guitar as the song builds. Cheers from southern Ontario!
Thanks for the suggestion, Louie, and many thanks for the reaction and love shown to Canada Harri! This is a great band and a wonderful song. They have many great hits and songs, but the one you dare not miss is called "Rain-O"! More cheers from Canada to you!!
Love Chilliwack, they have such great songs and musicianship and voices. They're always been a staple on our Vancouver radio. Chilliwack is a town about 1 1/2 hours east of Vancouver.

This Canadian band is from my hometown of Vancouver B.C. I had their albums. They had a lot of hits in the 70's. "My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)", "I Believe", "Whatcha Gonna Do", "Fly At Night", "Crazy Talk", "Lonesome Mary" etc. In the late 60's they were known as "The Collectors" & had a great song called "Lydia Purple" which I just love.
Chilliwack were huge in St Louis Missouri, our local rock station KSHE was instrumental in promoting the band in the US. To this day they are loved here locally, especially this song. The Arms of Mary is another favorite. Thanks for suggesting it Louie!!
Bill Henderson driving force here. Chilliwack is a city just up the Fraser Valley in BC over on the mainland. UHF is another of his incarnations. Shari Ulrich, Bill Henderson, Roy Forbes. Way different.

This 1976 Album I think was their best in the US. Another fire tune is 'Something Better' or 'Never Be the Same'. They played my high school. Seen them a lot. Great live band.
"I believe" is their greatest hit, and actually their not from Vancouver but from a little town one hour driving from Vancouver called Chilliwak as the name of the band, and it happens to be the Corn Capital of Canada in the most western province of British Columbia (BC) Pacific Coast.
One of my favourite songs from one of my favourite albums back then. They were the first band I saw in concert (where they opened for themselves as a punk band of sorts).

Really liking your tour of less well known Canadian bands. This song came out when I was 12 & yes, it was on the radio a lot in Southern Ontario. Still love it all these years later. If you want some more suggestions, try Teenage Head, Max Webster, Saga & April Wine as well.
Just saw Bill and the band two nites ago in a small venue in Courtenay, BC... they were awesome! He is now 78 and still hittin' the high notes! Harri, although not as well known outside Canada they were VERY successful...playing with all the greats... but they chose to spend more time with family at HOME in Canada, rather than do the touring thing abroad. They don't make records anymore but continue to play far and wide. A Canadian treasure!
Just saw this band at Shake the Lake in Regina, Sask, Canada. Although 2 members have passed ,they are still rocking and have tons of great songs..................
I bought this album back to the UK in 1977, from Canada. No one here had ever heard of them but they were big back home and I imagine in the US. The UK was having it's punk episode then.
Saw these guys open up for ELO in '77 or was it '78... so many years ago, but the music sounds just as good as it did when I was a kid. Another great song in the soundtrack of my youth and my life. Thanks!
Just an FYI... it was almost impossible for a Canadian band to get air-time on the US radio stations back then. If you didn't have a US agent or record company behind you, forget it.
Thanks, great reaction and band. You should try and google this song with the lead singer on the Taylor James show. Bill plays this song with Taylor James and her house band. Honestly I think it’s better than the LP copy. He’s 75 years old in that video and is unbelievably sharp vocally and instrumentally. Give it a go.
I rediscovered this song last year when I was watching the Canadian tv series Moonshine on the CW. The song brings back great memories from my youth. And I truly enjoyed the host's commentary and his reaction to the song!

The combinaion of Bill Henderson & Taylor Jame's female vocals and acoustic guitar with the band accompanying it is so moving , so tight, my heart almost jumped out of my chest upon hearing it .... Very frickin moving & emotional .. ❤❤ What true art is
Love Chilliwack. Rediscovered this song in the last year. Might be my favorite now. Harri, have you done any reactions to the Scottish alt-rock band Biffy Clyro? I would suggest their 2008 single Mountains. They have a huge following in Europe and headline festivals.
We tend to be more spiritual at night represented by the Moon. In the 70s in Singapore, similar in vein to Laurel and Hardy 8m the West, we have Lau Fu Zi (old Mr. Quek - I forgot what the fat one was called). In one snippet of a cartoon strip, it was shown that he is a man of many faiths - Muslim, Christian, Buddhist and Hindu - when at his death bed all the Igods pull him in different directions wanting a piece of his body. But we now know everything emanates from the Vedic culture which later on assimilated into Hinduism, which later birth Buddhism, them Jesus or Christianity rose in the New Age and then the Prophet Mohamed came along, But based on the insights of Vedic Astrology, they all have roots in the Vedic culture, Hinduism being the oldest Of course these days we also have Seventh Day Adventist and Christian Scientist which is the youngest religion signified by Rahu. It is this the youngest planet Of course if we want to talk even younger religions (Christian Science is all about energy) and has been around also quite some time), then you have African spirituality, modern day spiritualism in the West, Catholicism has always co-ecisted with Christianity and by the Precession of the Equinoxes. is considered not mainstream (I do not mean it in a bad way). Catholicism is on Virgin Mary which is Venus and God which is the Sun, so a combination of Sun and Venus shows that Catholics have strict precepts but the support by the Catholic community is STRONG. Sun represents the chief doctor and Venus ithe nurse. The Sun also erase all the softness of Venus, and thud the feminine figure of Virgin Mary becomes the twin personality of worship besides God represented by the Sun. In natal horoscope, people with Sun+Venus combination makes for top.posts in fields like espionages, and finding out things at the ground level but using perspectives at a higher level.
This song evokes so many memories for me. I was 19 when it was released and having the time of my life. It was part of the soundtrack of my life. What is truly remarkable is Bill Henderson, the lead singer, is still rockin' in his seventies! Check out this version from 2019: th-cam.com/video/WLZ2SVLre04/w-d-xo.html

Correct. Fantastic version.Well worth checking out!
Yes, I saw the video and they did a super job of the song. Taylor James actually shared part of the lead vocal for "Fly At Night" and did great!

Such a great Canadian band, very well known here, not so much elsewhere. Beautiful melodies.
I remember them being on the Merv Griffin show. Merv really got into the Gone, Gone, Gone lyric of 'My Girl'.

Forgot to emtion Harri, would be great to see your reaction to Canadian groups from the 70-80's, Doug and Slugs and The Powder Blues Band.
This song and "My Girl" both got decent airplay here, down under. At least, on Adelaide radio, anyway.
Awesome show Harri and i will be happy to subscribe to your channel.
Love it!
You really listen to “My Girl” by Chilliwack.
My wife knows I want this song played at my wake.
I always liked their song 148 Heavy. Not a hit, but a great song
But we now know everything emanates from the Vedic culture which later on assimilated into Hinduism, which later birth Buddhism, them Jesus or Christianity rose in the New Age and then the Prophet Mohamed came along,
But based on the insights of Vedic Astrology, they all have roots in the Vedic culture, Hinduism being the oldest
Of course these days we also have Seventh Day Adventist and Christian Scientist which is the youngest religion signified by Rahu. It is this the youngest planet
Of course if we want to talk even younger religions (Christian Science is all about energy) and has been around also quite some time), then you have African spirituality, modern day spiritualism in the West,
Catholicism has always co-ecisted with Christianity and by the Precession of the Equinoxes. is considered not mainstream (I do not mean it in a bad way).
PLEASE give a listen to their song "Looking For A PLACE" ! They have one of the longest and most amazing solo; 2:00 of pure pleasure!!!
