If every Russian visitor was like Dmitri, no one would have a problem. Dmitri gets it. He is in Thailand probably because he likes something about the Thai culture, cuisine or geography. He has made the effort to not only learn to speak Thai, but English as well. The flipside to that coin are the Russians who are in Thailand out of desperation. The only thing they like about Thailand is that it’s NOT RUSSIA. These Russians are understandably not happy with the situation. They would rather be at home than in Thailand, but they would also rather be alive than dead. These Russians probably don’t like much in Thailand. But they are stuck there. It is probably for these people that a parallel universe is being created in Thailand. Rental units, taxi companies, restaurants, bars-you name it-are being acquired by Russians for the exclusive use of other Russians. The idea being, you may be stuck in Thailand, but we’ve fixed things so you will never have to deal with a single Thai person or business for the duration of your stay. This will be a problem for the Thai people. A sudden influx of tourist trade should mean a sudden influx of cash to the Thai economy. But the way some Russians are playing this, the Thais are getting the tourists, but little or none of the trade. These people are going to use Thailand like a rock band uses a hotel room. And when the “situation” is resolved in Ukraine and the coast is clear, hundreds of thousands of these new visitors will go back home, taking their profits with them. I don’t think it’s fair to paint all Russians with the same brush. Nobody wants to go fight and die for some nut who wants to get the band back together. Clearly, thousands of Russians were lied to. Told they were going to a training exercise and woke up in Ukraine with a WW2-era rifle and pointed towards the nearest trench. Most will never make it back home. It’s a bad situation for the Ukrainian people, a bad situation for the hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers-some of whom were the last to know they were about to become soldiers. And potentially a bad situation for Thai business if people are going to accept their hospitality, then screw them for their efforts. Too many have died already. Hopefully, a smart, sensible and just resolution can be achieved soon-not a band aid that just kicks this can down the road. 🙏

I hope Thailand will open a RUSSIANTOWN in Pattaya...they can put up business. for local and foreign tourist.. all of us know China town. we have China town in philippines so does thailand SEA tourist wants to have a taste of Russian Culture. food. etc. as Russia is part of Europe. one thing i observe from russian people or tourist is they do not have this RACIST attitude unlike in the US. SEA tourist needs a visa to rnter Russia. show money and requirements. unlike in Thailand ASEAN tourist only need to show their hotel booking. and visa upon arrival. instead of going to Russia to have a taste of food. culture. and people to people contact just visit thailand
