I noticed you usually wear cowboy leather boots. Have you ever had any problem with thorns penetrating ? I live in Laredo,Texas and after trying various military style boots I find that Rocky Jungle boots will stop even 4 inch mesquite torns from penetrating. Could you do a review on footwear?

I usually carry an old German breadbag made of canvas. Three slots one for first aid, one for cooking things (oil, herbs and spices) and one for utensils. The main pouch is used for food and other stuff like Opinel 12 stainless steel and cutting board. The main cooking vessel, water container and survival stuff is on my bushcraft belt.

It feels nice to wind back some where in the open desert with no one around and eating a cup of ramen after a tiring day of work. Something simple as ramen tastes better outdoors lol

The skittle pouch is a nice accessory pouch for sticking inside the EDC Shackleton. The larger tool pouch with side handle is great for cordage and tent stakes in larger overnight kits.

Looks like a fantastic haversack. I've been eyeing some of Tuff Possum's gear on my Instagram account lately. I totally see the Tiki face on that buckle, haha! Looks like it can fit quite a bit and is really well constructed! Great review, my friend! Keep it up!!

James, great video. I've never heard of Tuff Possum Gear, but it looks like high quality stuff. I really like the interior design of the haversack! Very well thought out. If there is one thing that I'd modify (and this is just me being picky), I'd replace the 2" flat webbing shoulder strap with 2" tubular webbing. I'd cut off the existing webbing, leaving enough material to be able to sew on a 2" double D-ring at each connection point. Then, I'd add a length of 2" tubular webbing. The reason for this is to increase the versatility of the haversack. You could store a 21" Bahco bow saw blade inside the tubular webbing, and it would lie flat so you'd never know it was there. You could also store long tent pegs in the vertical portions of the webbing to save space in the haversack. While in camp, you could use the 2" webbing as a strap around a tree to support a hammock; if you're a climber, tubular webbing is excellent for protecting ropes around sharp rocks. The uses are endless.

The buckle is a possum face. The squeeze locks are the ears. Nice review & loadout. Everyone has different needs when it comes to what to carry. I find a different bag for each environment, preloaded, works well for me. No two haversacks, or backpacks are loaded the same. The only extras are food, and expected weather. Keep 'm dirty.

yep... got one for Christmas 2023
    so fat it's GREAT!
    has it's issues...
the shoulder strap buckle slide strap could be thicker
the fold over flaps curl some, maybe after time...
they were out of the Satchel Organizer Panel & Stabilizer Strap have been out of stock...
this is now my EDC replacing my Healthy Back Bag (purse/sling, formerly made in USA)

Great load out James! As always, nothing short of excellence! I'm a pack guy myself, but I must say that is a sweet haversack. I've seen you wear one so often, that I can't picture you without it. Would love to see your take on the Maxpedition Proteus one day. That's been my go to for a few years now.

    • @ninjasquirrels
      @ninjasquirrels 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@iPac9mm well, presumably he doesn’t do that on a EDC basis, just like I don’t carry mine in my pack. All I carry in mine is whatever I need for the day, some extra clothes like a jacket and a spare pair of socks, some water and snacks, a rather comprehensive first aid kit…that’s it.
I’m guessing he has a similar thing going on inside his haversack on a daily basis too 🤷🏼‍♂️

Very helpful review on the Tuff Possum Haversack The bags design is quite usefully engineered and the craftsmanship of the bag is impressive. However, I do have reservations regarding the buckle design and assembly. It appears to be made of a cast plastic material and over the years I have not had good experiences with plastic buckles/hardware. In any event, thanks for another great video review.

It is perfect. I’ve used many verse packs, satchels and man bags. This combines the best features, modularity, strength, ergonomics and weight. I have other small backpacks but this form function can’t be beat! Love the exterior slot pockets and webbing loops for quick access and attaching bottle pouches. The cobra buckle is so silent and easy to use.

It’s a cute little bag although I prefer my now rare large German bread bag that. I got from Sports Mans Guide several years ago for about $30. It measures about 18” x 12” x 9” fully loaded. it has 3 pockets on the outside which are under the flap when it’s closed. It also has a divider inside. I got mine in black and used it as an EDC bag until I retired. Then when we had the 6,250 acre Marshall Fire with 1,084 homes destroyed in December which was only a few miles away, I repurposed it as an Evac bag. The one big danger of a bag this large is that it’s really very easy to overload it if you want to walk very far so I would try to use mainly ultralight gear in it for bushcrafting or camping.

I still like The Hidden Woodsman's haversack better. The PALS webbing on the sides is a great place for an ifak and a bottle pouch. And the axe sleeve is great. I get this isn't called a haversack but I'd rather have a Hidden Woodsmen haversack in the outdoors. Nothing against this bag, looks well made. I like the 2 pockets on the inside front of the bag but the Laser cut PALS webbing on the inside back makes no sense to me, I'd rather have elastic webbing. And that buckle is extreme overkill.
