You probably covered everything I can think of thanks. I planted three plants in a 3ft-15ft. In one year I had it bustling with strawberries. They are one of the most productive plants I’ve ever seen.
This video was my “one stop shop” for information!..I’m a first year gardener so I had a lot of questions. Your video answered every question and more! Thank you! 🍓🍓🍓
@@GrowingInTheGarden is it ok to leave straw around strawberries all year around? (not on the plants). just a small layer, like maybe half inch, to retain some moisture and keep the sunlight off the compost, and change the straw every year to keep fresh.
@@MobileAura Sorry, I have no idea what you're saying? I got these plants when my kids were in elementary from their plant sale (2013/2014) Had a few here n there never produced much, my yard wasn't the greatest. Moved them to grandma's place this year and they've exploded with strawberries. Same plants. In a pot. No issues. I have two varieties. One blooms later in the season, so im waiting on the second set. First group has already done well. Dad and both sets of grandparents were farmers. Kids got green thumbs. I do not. I just figured it's the magic touch of the kids taking care of it more now at grandma's. 🤷🏻♀️ possibly cuz im way up north. I'm not sure.
Thanks ^.^ i actually thought there was no hope for these plants. I only got a small amount if any at my house before the bugs got to them... or my pesky squirrel neighbor. Or my rabbit who would eat it all. So I really was not expecting much of a production. Second strawberry plants has set its first fruit now. So far 4 lil ones. I'll see if they manage to get ripe 😁
Thank you so much for your tips for us in AZ. I moved six miles east, and it was a big difference in soil, so my Strawberries didn't make it last year. Have a great year in your garden, looks like it will be weather wise.
I grow chandler strawberry’s here in Tempe , have them with full morning sun and lots of afternoon shade....they are producing really well this year...very happy with this variety of strawberry for this area...
You are dynamite you've been very helpful to us you just get direct to the point you don't have minute to waste thank you and God bless you I wish everybody is like you
Great video. You just got a new subscriber. Second year gardener here and need good advice without 20 minutes of useless talking about the kids, dogs, cats, weather etc.😀
Thank you for giving such good tips , and mentioning kinds of strawberries & which are suitable according to the climate. Trying to plant strawberries this are good tips....for beginners.
As always you provided just the right information at the right time. I think I'm going to attempt to save and transplant the strawberry plants I have to the new house. They may stop producing from the shock of the move but praying they at least stay alive. Thank you!!

I just got here but it’s that time of the season for south Florida!!!! Can’t wait to give it a try, you really outlined just about everything needed and this is the most useful video I’ve seen on strawberrys that pertains to different areas!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I really appreciate the focus on Phoenix at the end. It really isn't helpful for most people to do general stuff. Each area is just so different. Phoenix needs a few dedicated garden channels that focus solely on our climate and soil.
That was great very informative most appreciated we grow a lot of strawberies here in MALTA eu thanks for the video and good luck with your work good bye
Strawberry flowers are sensitive to frost, but the plants go dormant in the winter in zone 5 and if protected from direct wind arrive in the spring in perfect condition. Our strawberry patch woke up in the first warm days of spring and there are flowers on a few of them.
@@GrowingInTheGarden exactly, strawberries will survive a moderate winter, leaves will turn red due to frost but they will get lots of new leaves as temperatures begin to raise in spring. I haven't found a way to protect them from pill bugs though, mulching will keep the soil moisted and those b*stards seem to love that. Even if I raise the fruit they seem to find it irresistible
My first time for planting strawberries I am happy for you sharing the video I am living in linden town Guyana south America a warm country I will let you know when I get some fruit thanks 🙏 for sharing 😋
Thank you for this video! I’m 9b but right at that 3500’ boundary (just north of Tombstone.) Looks like I need to get moving if I want to get some strawberries in a grow bag so they can overwinter.
Nice vid, I enjoy listening to you speak. Calm and well-paced, and obviously knowledgeable. I wish you would have given a bit more info and pics about using the crown to start new plants, but the rest was very good. Thanks.
I’m so glad to have found your channel, as so many gardening channels are from colder climates. I live in Southern Nevada, outside of Las Vegas. My husband brought me 4 beautiful hanging baskets of strawberries from Home Depot, and we hung them under our pergola that we covered with tan colored shade cloth (I don’t know the % shade). At first they were doing really well and producing berries, but now that the weather is approaching 90, they seem to be struggling and the edges are turning brown. I haven’t had a ripe berry for several days now, although I can see several green ones. I did mulch around the edges of the basket with small bagged bark pieces when we hung them up. Do you think they are getting too hot being less than 2 feet from the shade cloth? Our area has been windy lately too. Do you think they would do better in large containers in more shade? We don’t have much shade here, but I have some metal barrels next to (& north of) our cattery that has a fiberglass roof. How much shade is too much in hot climates like ours?
Thank you Angela. I am really glad to have fund your channel. I am moving to the Anthem (North Phx) area in 2 weeks and was wondering if you offer garden tours. We visited Steadfast farms on our last visit!
I just planted strawberry plants this weekend in raised garden beds.. First time gardener in zone 9a! I appreciate your videos and take lots of notes. Wondering if you have recommendations for: compost (store bought), mulch and shade cloth? There's so many options out there. I want to get the right stuff. Also do you have a video on how to make compost tea? I didn't see it. Thank you!
Video on compost tea coming soon! Homemade compost is best. Otherwise look for a good local vendor. I like Arizona Worm farm here in Phoenix. I also get my wood chip mulch from them. Here's the shade cloth I use: amzn.to/3uo3V1C
Thanks I ust got 27 June bearing strawberry plants I was wondering about all the things you covered. THese are hardyer. I planted them in deep pots so I can move them and place them inside when the frost comes.
I just found your Channel, you are amazing! I have limit space because I have too many fruits tree, growing vertical and this tips for grow strawberries is something I was looking for. Thank you for great tips.
I commented on another video with cantaloupe and did tell me son. He mentioned strawberries and I should do those too. Here I am. Shade. I have it but limited. Small batches are ok.
Thanks for the in depth video! I have second year strawberries in containers now that just started putting off flowers. In regards to pruning them, as I understand it, this should only be done during the first year after the crowns are planted to help the roots get established and then next year the flowers should be allowed to grow in like normal to produce berries. Are you saying that even for established plants, the first flowers should still be pruned? If anyone knows the answer, please share!!
Great information! I just planted my 1st strawberry plant. Maybe I should try companion planting just for preventative measures. Thanks for this video! 🍓
Thank you for putting a 2 hour video in 8 minutes without annoying soul draining intros/begging for likes/subs.
Ha! Thanks for watching.
After a couple of videos I'm starting to think this is the only gardening channel I need.

Hanging baskets are tough. They would do better in the ground or in raised beds. They need some morning sun at least.
