Maybe in terms of how many glitches there are, but in terms of ambition? At least Rise of Lyric was trying to be something new and distinct from the main version and may have been actually interesting if it didn't get merged with the Boom brand and forced on the WiiU whereas the 3DS games were just more of the same 2010s Sonic trot, down to hiring Pontaff to write the story. People like to trash RoL for the state it was released in, but honestly, out of everything the Boom brand brought us, Rise of Lyric is probably the one I respect the most. Even though all potential was squandered beyond belief, at least there was an aspiration to do something new and interesting with Sonic there.

Given the options for 3DS exclusives at the time I would still play Generations over any of the others, cause I knew how infamously bad the Lost World special stages were supposed to be with its gyro controls and I was never a fan of the whole Boom imagining of the franchise to begin with.
Aside from that there was still the older Game Gear games that were downloadable through Nintendo eShop and those 3D ports of Sonic 1 & 2 from Genesis. Or just playing any of the older DS Sonic games on 3DS through its backwards compatibility.

Both Generations and Lost World 3DS were games I grew up with.
Heck, Generations 3DS was the first game I got for the system because I was intrigued by the games the Blue Blur had on Wii and I need *something* to play for my new handheld even though I probably should've gotten one of the more meatier games available at the time if I was actually interested.
Of course being a naive kid at the time, I wasn't aware that the levels came from other titles in Sonic's history and thought they were completely original to Generations 3DS, same for the music. Even after beating the game younger me *still* wasn't fully convinced somehow.
Of course the main challenge for both Generations and Lost World 3DS come from the S Ranks. For Generations 3DS instead of the piss easy ranking system seen in the Console/PC version, Generations 3DS harkens back to the older entries like Adventure 2 or the HD version of Unleashed with S Ranks that require a mix between perfection and getting the fastest time possible. This goes double for Lost World 3DS which *really* requires perfection.
Especially in the unlockable Hard Mode stages exclusive to Lost World 3DS where that are only 26 Rings throughout the each stage. That being five 5-Rings (which are in the same positions as the Red Star Rings in the normal stages) and the single Ring you start with even after dying.

Personally, the stages I would choose for Gens 3DS are:
    Classic Era:

Crystal Egg Zone (2 GG) or Mecha Green Hill Zone (Chaos)
    Sunset Park Zone (Triple Trouble)
    GBA Era:
    Ice Mountain Zone (Advance)
    Music Plant Zone (Advance 2)
    Cyber Track Zone (Advance 3)
    Modern Era:
    Water Palace Zone (Rush)
    Neon Palace Zone (Rivals 2)
    Pirates’ Island Zone (Rush Adventure)
    Bosses:
    Rival Fang (Triple Trouble)
Boss Son Wu Kong Mech (Blast)

I'd replace pirates island with Sky Babylon only so that we don't have 2 water themes almost back to back for the modern Era despite how good they are
The bosses are a good pick especially if Gemerl is the one fought from Chaos Angel in zone 7 but how would a Emerl from Battle work considering besides the crazed state is a completely different game I'd much rather chase after egg saucer or do the XX Zone from advance 2 complete with all 7 bosses and final boss at the end lol

I think Fire & Ice gets to be really fun after the tutorial levels are over and you can start to just use Sonic's air dash at any point where it might be helpful. Sure, there's silly automated speed sections between the platforming parts, but the platforming parts can be just as fast if you take advantage of the air dash.

They didn't even have to spend a fortune of the cutscenes, most of the dialogue could've been conveyed through text boxes like the ones in Colours DS. Just with 3D models instead of flat JPEGs. Preferably with Sonic also getting dialogue so the NPCs wouldn't end up monologuing.

Yeah… I’m completely against this video lol. Lost world and Gens 3DS were really fun to me. I’d go as far to say I enjoyed Gens 3DS more than the console ver which even now, I have yet to finish playing through it because of how much i don’t really like it. I 100% 3DS Gens and I started working on 100%ing the console ver maybe like 2 years ago but I’ve put it off for so long just because there’s just too many things in the console ver that pisses me off. Just a few things that annoy me with console Gens: Button latency, the English voice cast, Classic Sonic, the story (omg I hate the story so much), uninspired/boring stage progression, the most mind numbing side missions in a Sonic game, etc.
Now with Lost World 3DS, I absolutely loved speed running some of the stages in that ver. I really enjoyed my time playing it. My only issue with it that I have was the special stages, other than that Lost World 3DS was super fun for me. Just for the record, I never grew up with these games. My first time playing Gens 3DS was in 2020 and my first time playing Lost World 3DS was I think 2016
Lastly for the Boom games, I haven’t played them yet so I don’t have any opinions on them.
This video kinda just sounds like you simply didn’t like the games and that’s ok. I just don’t agree with completely writing these games of as “bad” just because YOU didn’t enjoy them

So I was at a Gamestop, and there was an elderly lady there buying a 3DS because she wanted to improve her reflexes, so the cashier recommended Fire & Ice to her, which will forever be a sweet memory to me.
She bought it and a couple of other games, but I didn't look too closely.

Honestly they shouldve definitely went in for the handheld levels.
Classic Era- Sonic 1 and 2 for Game Gear, Sonic Chaos and Triple Trouble, Sonic Blast.
    Dreamcast Era- Sonic Advance 1 2 3.
Modern Era- Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure, Colors 3DS, and maybe Rivals 1 and 2 just for a longer game 😅
Silver Sonic (Game Gear) and/or Fang wouldve been great for a classic era rival(s)
Emerl and/or Gemerl would've been great.
And finally Blaze and/Silver (Sonic Rivals setting) wouldve been neat.
It just seemed like they "quarter ass" did it. Yeah each era wouldnt have 3 stages an era but who cares. Longer game with these levels wouldve still been massively appreciated imo

When it comes to Generations on the 3DS, I would have loved to see more handheld stages and the return of Sonic Rush's trick mechanics.
Regarding Lost World, I understand the argument that it's a portable game, so it makes sense to play all parts of it while on the go. Yes special stages in Lost World 3DS require gyro mechanics and movement, which can be seen as an inconvenience. However, many handheld games have unique mechanics that can't be replicated in other settings. The game clearly warns players that these stages require an open space for gyro controls and movement. It's a bit odd to criticize this feature because you don't have to engage in those stages while on a bus or train. You can simply wait and enjoy other aspects of the game.
Consider the versus mode, for example; it's understood that you need Wi-Fi to connect to the internet and find matches, so you wouldn't be upset if you couldn't play it on a train or bus. So, why treat gyro controls in the special stages any differently? It's like getting frustrated with a feature for the sake of being frustrated.
Furthermore, it's enjoyable to unlock Super Sonic before completing the game and using him against the final boss, something that can't be done in the console version. Despite some finicky controls in the 3DS at least, the 3DS version makes a more concerted effort, and once you understand the patterns, it becomes quite manageable. In contrast, the console version's bosses are notably easy and lack depth in gameplay. They are objectively worse in every way except polygon and pixel count and are some of the easiest bosses in any post-Adventure (non-spin off) 3D sonic game. I just don't get how anyone can defend those trash fights.
Like I agree with some of the complaints but they just aren't that bad.

I really like lost world 3ds, actually. Call it a guilty pleasure, but I find it to be a much better realized vision of the main game when it comes to artstyle, bosses, parkour, controls, 2d stages... What I also like about it, is that it's hard. Like, actually really hard! And I don't mind it at all, I really enjoy those meaty stages with hard to get S ranks which reward parkour mastery, exploration and smart wisp usage. The only act in the game I truly dislike, the infamous one, can be broken in half with the earthquake wisp... To me, this is meaningful content. Then you add red rings, extra stages, hard mode to the pile, and the result is a lot of bang for your buck. The special stages aren't even bad on original hardware! When you can move at 360 degrees, but still. And the stage length? Well... It's up to you, but if you try to master the stages they won't go past 5 minutes, aka, my preferred stage length for a sonic game. I guess this game was made for me, in many ways it gave me what the original lost world couldn't (a fully fleshed out stage with dragon dance in the background for instance) and I'm glad I've tried it a few months ago

@playbossthebest936 Fellow Lost World 3DS enjoyer here..
It is hard at times, but as you say, you can destroy the levels in that game.
For example in the 2nd level of Windy Hill, in the parkour section after the first giant spring, you can climb the walls you're meant to wall run across by climbing the side not facing you, and it's even intentional as there are 10 rings on top of the walls.
I agree with basically the entirety of this comment, especially the length of stages which is quite comfortable once you've got them down

@@playbossthebest936 sry for not responding promptly yt dosent tell me about replys sometimes.
Cool you tried it! Here's another one: In the area at 35:12, you don't need to defeat the boss to go to the next area! What you need to do is:
Stand on top of the object the spring is inside.
Go to the farthest corner of the object and charge a spin dash, facing the area with the most space.
Perform an infinite spin dash (as soon as you release the Y button, hold Y again)
      While jumping and holding forwards.
You can jump in such a way that you don't need to use the spring he uses in the video. You can climb the wall of that far platform, skipping the boss fight.
Much easier with super sonic but still doable with normal sonic.
I could send you a (very low quality as I dont have a 3ds capture card) unlisted yt video if you liked.
Edit: It may not be that exact location btw.

32:48 yeah this is basically my experience with sonic Gen 3ds. The only context I had about sonic at the time was like: Sonic.exe, those sonic paradox shorts and games on Flash sites and Roblox. So a lot of what you say about reusing stages and it not representing it's history never really applied to me. Lmao I remember complaining about the classic Sonic's physics being weird because I was so used to Gen classic sonic.
Not sure I understand what you mean about stage design specifically not being cohesive?
It's a general thing boost sonic does. Using HD GEN radical highway for reference, It throws more things at you than anything in the 3ds version. Boosting>get picked up by a helicopter and into a grind-rail that leads into running on walls that goes into crashing into a building to then boost again and into a 2D segment where you then sky diving. And I'm fine with it. Even spending 30 seconds on a single stage mechanic at a time already feels like your wasting time, which then grows each time you replay the stage.(those moving platform barrels in 3DS radical highway act 2 are a good example of what I mean)
Maybe you're implying a better way would have been by implementing things gradually intro stage? Or have them reappear? But even then with the example you gave, most of those happen several time throughout the stage with different contexts. The handheld helicopter thing appears at the beginning of the stage, there's not much punishment for failing. It's a short cut /determines what route you'll be on. Then it appears again, but this time with spikes you have to navigate through. and the third time is for the same reason as the first but with a death pit.

Sonic boom: eggmania. The gameplay would be similar to that of rise of lyric but more finished. The main threat is simply eggman so it’s basically the show but playable. All (eggman)robots that appear in the show will also make an appearance.
Second one is Sonic boom: metal supreme. The new threat is a robot from the future that looks like mecha sonic but darker. It works with eggman and combines with his robots to make them stronger. The final encounter is between sonic and metal supreme where sonic makes a sonic boom and gets super charged (with blue eyes) to make a chance at destroying metal supreme. After the fight metal supreme simply fades away after sending one last message.

I thought Generations was a decent time-killer at least. Still have it installed on my own 3DS. But then this was still the time when the portable versions of game titles were often going to be the lesser versions due to hardware limitations or what-have-you, something which Nintendo seems to have finally rendered mute with the Switch and only needing to develop titles for a single system now.
On the other hand I do have to agree that not including recreations of any of the levels from the Game Gear or Advance games in the portable Generations was always an extremely missed opportunity.
