I wish I could show this video to some of our Press brake operators. But the fact that this guy isn't wearing any PPE, makes this a no-go.

If he had the top punch the same length as his longest bend he could have bent the two short sides first and finished the two long sides with out moving anything. Guess he had to show all the perks of the machine.

If there are high surface finish requirements when edge bending/press brake, the Swedish product Tribotextil™ can be applied in the bending/pressing tool and mechanically protect the sheet metal from scratches and other damages. Tribotextil™ is an extremely thin and very strong textile that in this process replaces lubricants in the tool.

Did any you guys ever stop and think maybe thats the tooling size they had in the shop. Not every job justifies buying custom tooling. Maybe they had a longer upper punch enough to do the long side but not to close it. And a smaller punch to close it up. Besides since he didnt already have the short punch loaded then he was probably just doing that one box.

      buildingthings79,

the shorter punch was the same as the longer one, he just added another tool holder. could have just added those holders to the long punch. and this guy works for the press company, so he can definitely get the right tooling.

You do not have to keep off the easel.
And you do not need to mount a smaller punch to do the last two folds.
He just needed to fold the smaller tabs first and finalize on the two larger, simple tabs!
With just a punch in the machine it would do everything and much faster .....
And the smaller flaps of 15 mm could be at the end with a cut of 45 ° that would give a better final finish in the piece.
Thinking before manufacturing anything is necessary ...

Why not set the tooling up to your longest press size, the press the smaller then the bigger. Would of saved all that pissing around

Let me guess, the thumbs down are the nazi safety police who said oh my my he should be wearing safety glasses and hearing protection! Gloves, yes because of the very easy possibility of getting cut handling the metal

No coveralls, gloves, ear protection or light guards is not a good idea if you operation that machine. Sure a one off piece for the camera will do no harm, but a 8 or 12 hour shift utilising that investment to its fullest will shred your hands and clothing leading to injury and Dermatitis.

I know this is old video, but my company just sold our old work horse...
yes our old durma did leak oil.. it was hard to use, it smelled bad and only few people could use it (rest were too scared to use it) but it had one quality that made up all of it's flaws...
    it just didn't give a F*ck
wanna bend 6mm sheet that has hole near the bend line? well just tell durma that you have v48, but use v24 and just up the tonnage.. it doesn't care...
our newer machines are so smart that if you try to do that they notice, turn the screen red and lift the blade -.- damn safety features...
one of our workers actually managed to bend a small upper blade into a U-shape with durma.. he forgot the machine in manual mode and lowered the blade while talking sh'it to a co-worker ^^
Durma is really a great machine to work with, if you just need to get the job done, one way or another. It's not easy to use, or as pretty as the new machines... but it get's the job done...
but yeah... bye bye beautiful, i'm gonna miss you when i try to bend 10mm flat bar on this new and shiny press brake from italy.

Spoken like a true hero I still use them at the shop I work at every day. We have 2 220s, a 330, 440, and 1100 ton presses. They are work horses and get the job done. I don't even have to lie to mine I've formed 6.4mm mat'l into a 1" V die (with a gooseneck punch cause I got balls). They've worked miracles for me and will continue to in the future I'm sure.
