This is because you are in PAL. PAL gives you 25, 50, and 100. NTSC gives you 24, 30, 60, 120. I live in North America so I need to be in NTSC. It all has to do with household light bulbs and their flicker rate. If you are in Europe then being in PAL will help with the light bulbs that you use. It prevents flicker in your videos. Have you checked your white balance? Are you in auto? You might have to reset you black level. If you google that you might find some answers. First check your white balance.
Great Video thanks bud! I have the a6400 as well and I am in the Settings in Tab 1 Page 4 where you can choose shoot modes, the first button "Recall" is grey and I cant click on it - same when I make it a shortcut it says: "this function is deactivated" - you know why?
CUSTOM KEYS and SLOW MOTION X 1000, this video is great man, thanks a lot...What exposure level do you recommend for a brown skin tone? (In my photo is the tone) Do you use the two types of zebras or just one?
I would recommend the same. You want your skin tones just under 70 regardless of your skin color. We all have read blood so we all have a reddish color to our skin. So you want under 70 and on the orangish/red line. Maybe I should do a video on color grading. What do you think?
That was always my thought. Start out with the APS-C camera and then upgrade to the full frame. I have the new Sony a7c coming in tomorrow. I cannot wait. What would you like to know about that camera? Or, is there something else that you would like to know about the a6400?
The videomicro is a great little mic. You want to go into Audio Rec Levels, tab 2, page 2/9. Once you go in there you want to lower your audio levels so that when you are talking normal it just touches the -12. That is the peak you want when you are using your normal voice. This way when you get excited and talk louder you will not peak and ruin your audio. Does that make sense?
Omg you literally went over everything, even the mic! I have the rode micro mic and sigma 30mm lens. Looks like I have some of the basics that you are showing but I need to go over them (on a mission before my next recording) What’s the AF S/C for? I want to make sure the auto focus is on point especially for my hair content!
I thought you might like this video. That Sigma 30mm lens is really good. The next lens that I would recommend would be the Sigma 16mm. Gives you a 24mm look and allows you to get closer to the camera. Plus it might be the best lens for the Sony APS-C system. It is on my camera 90% of the time. As far as AF S/C, this is for auto focus Single shot (S) or auto focus continuous (C). AF-S grabs focus 1 time and then holds that spot. So if you move around, side to side or back and forth, than you run the risk of being out of focus. This mode is good for stationary product shots and mostly for photos. AF-C will continue to grab focus on a moving object. I am in this mode 98% of the time and 100% of the time in video. You want to make sure the camera tracks your movements so this is the correct mode when you are shooting something that moves, like in video. Any other questions?
@@BrianTheCameraGuy I would love to have you do a tutorial on all of the buttons and what they do. I have two 6400 bodies and the 3 Sigma Lenses. 16, 30, and the 56. I use them mostly as a livestreaming camera plugged directly into my capture card and MAC. I would enjoy learning more so I can take them out into the wild and take a few pictures now and then or shoot some footage. Thanks for the time Brian
Hey Brian, terrific video. Can I ask you if you ever noticed your background pulsing when the AF is on? I'm not sure whether it is a problem with my camera or instead the autofocus is so powerful and expecting movements that is doing that on the background (especially with lights). Is it just me or is a common issue? Since I'm basically gonna use it to make video of myself talking, I found useful to use the autofocus at first, and then when I'm focused then turning it off. But to be honest that's a bit annoying.
The only time that I noticed the pulsing is when I use a lens that has autofocus breathing issues. The Camera is good at autofocusing so it is normally the lens. What lens do you notice it the most?
Most live streams come in at 1080p to start. It depends on the look and feel you want. If you want more of a movie feel/look, then you would want to go with the 24 fps. If you want it to look more news or soap opera than you want either 30 fps or 60 fps. I am guessing that you are using the HDMI cable to bring the video to the computer. You should check to see if you have right now for your HDMI Settings. That is on Tab 5, page 4/7. I would set it to Auto, 60p, Off, Off, and On. Take a look at how it looks If I does not have the feel you like, then try 24p. There is no wrong or right answer as long as you like the way it looks.
First, thank you for watching. You have a great ear and are the first person to ask. The humming noise was my dryer. I was testing out a new wireless lav mic system. I did not think that the mics would pick up the sound because it was so far away. I was wrong but I still loved the video and did not want to waste the time re-filming it. If you watch my latest video about the Sigma 16mm, I use the same mics but I made sure the background was clean. The mics sound great in that video. What mics do you use?
@@BrianTheCameraGuy Have you ever used auphonic.com/ to reduce noise and balance the audio levels? It has saved me many times. Thanks for the vid LOVE IT!

You are very welcome. I am working on some lens reviews. Would you want to see first, the Sigma 16mm f1.4 or the Sony 16mm to 55mm f2.8 G Master for the a6400?
It really depends what you are hoping to do with the camera. Are you looking to vlog, take still pictures or are you thinking TH-cam talking head videos?
@@BrianTheCameraGuy TH-cam + commercial shoots.... Should I buy the camera with kit lens if I am going with sigma lenses and I habe gimbal? Or there is no work for tiny kit lens?
I can tell you that the Sigma 16mm lens is my favorite lens with the a6400. I would get that lens over the 30mm personally. It is only an extra $100 US for the kit lens. It is not the greatest glass but it does offer OSS, stabilization and that can be helpful if you go hand held. I would recommend getting the kit lens too because you will have a zoom lens to start. Again it is not much more to get this lens with the camera so it is worth it to start.
Also, here are some links to all the products. They are affiliate links and I do earning a commission if you use them but it does not cost you anything extra. Sony a6400 with no kit lens (add the kit lens when you get to the page) - geni.us/btcgbackupcamera Sigma 16mm f1.4 - geni.us/btcgapscstudiolens
I would try it at +20 to start and then turn the camera down to 1. You will then want to either decrease the mic if the volume is still too hot or increase the camera volume if the mic is not loud enough. The recommendation is that you have the audio levels hitting around -12 when you are talking normal.
@@BrianTheCameraGuy Thank you so much for answering, also have you noticed that the camera flip the face wen recording, like taking video on an iPhone front camera? It would be great if I can change that. its driving me crazy ..
I am not 100% sure. I do know that if you set everything up, turn off the camera and then turn it on with the screen in selfie mode then this will not happen.
First vote for #teamsony. I am working on some lens reviews. What would you want to see first, the Sigma 16mm f1.4 or the Sony 16mm to 55mm f2.8 for the a6400?
Hi - when I try to turn face/eye priority in AF on it tells me 'this operation or setting not available in the following format' (XAVC S 4k). Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here? Thanks
A couple of these settings (Face/Eye Priority and Touch Tracking) only seem to be available in 1080p mode, not 4K; am I missing something? Thanks in advance :)
This could be because you have Proxy Recordings turned on. If that is on, try turning that off and see if you get those features back. Let me know if that was the problem.
You would need to change your NTSC/PAL Selector. That is locate on the 4 tab (the one with the brief case), page 2/7. You are currently set in PAL so depending on what country you live it it will make a difference. The lights flicker at a different rates depending on the country you live in. In the USA, we use NTSC, other parts of the world use PAL. Hi Biran great info man, but HLG 2 is great for he people don't know about color grading and color wheels, but I'm filmmaker and let me tell you the best PP to film videos in 4K 24 is SLog2 with Gamut 3 Cine because is perfect to not found any noise in the clips, you have to test and try it you don't regret it. Thanks
I will definitely have to try that. I was trying to make it simple for someone new to the system. Let me ask you, have you tried HLG3 and how does that compare to the SLog 2 settings you mention. I have tried to use SLog 2 but always found that my exposing the footage has not gone well.
This is because your camera is in the PAL setting. You would want to change to the NTSC setting on your camera. This gives you 24, 30, 60 and 120p in 1080 and 24 and 30p in 4k.

Are you on the MR setting on the top dial? That is the only time the recall works.
Great instructional video, very helpful .
Thank you very much. I am glad that it helped. How are you enjoying you a6400?
I love the camera, there is so much to learn and I’d like to eventually get a full frame camera like the Sony A7iii
That was always my thought. Start out with the APS-C camera and then upgrade to the full frame. I have the new Sony a7c coming in tomorrow. I cannot wait. What would you like to know about that camera? Or, is there something else that you would like to know about the a6400?
Wow. Thank you so much for the positive feedback. I really appreciate you checking out the video and stopping by my channel.
Sir, how do I know my external mic working well in Sony A6400? Can I get that information from the menu ?
I use rode videomicro Go
The videomicro is a great little mic.
@@BrianTheCameraGuy thank you Sir
Omg you literally went over everything, even the mic! I have the rode micro mic and sigma 30mm lens. Looks like I have some of the basics that you are showing but I need to go over them (on a mission before my next recording)
What’s the AF S/C for?
Thank you for the ideas. Let me see what I can put together.
@Brian The Camera Guy it’s the 16-50mm kit lens, but cause it’s so famouse for its autofocus I was not expecting it :(
Yeah that is weird. I did not find that with my kit lens. I wonder what your autofocus speed is set to?
Subbed and saved video! Thank you so much!!
You are very welcome. I am glad it helped.
Brilliant
Thank you so much. I am very proud of this video. I am really glad that you liked it and found value!
Nice work 👏👏👏👏
Thanks Bruno. Really appreciate the feedback.
If I'm livestreaming to Facebook, TH-cam, Linkedin and Periscope will it make a difference for 24 or 30 FPS? Thoughts?
What is that humming noise in the background sir?
No I have never tried that before. I will have to check it out.
thank you very much
You are very welcome. Did you have any questions that I can help answer now or in a future video? Is there anything that you are struggling with for the a6400?
@@BrianTheCameraGuy I do my own tutorial videos and I think the lens it's fine but can you suggest some other options for another lens more shiny footage
@@BrianTheCameraGuy I have only one video on 4k the name of the video is improvisation before the last video I uploaded today, and God bless you bro thank you very much

My favorite lens is the Sigma 16mm f1.4. That lens is so share and amazing with auto focus.
That's really interesting mate. Thanks for all the help 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️💕💗☯️❤️💕💗
You are very welcome. I am working on some lens reviews. Would you want to see first, the Sigma 16mm f1.4 or the Sony 16mm to 55mm f2.8 G Master for the a6400?
Should I buy sony a6400 with kit lens or only with sigma 16 mm or 30 mm lens? Kit lens make sense?
@@BrianTheCameraGuy thanks brian for advice ✌🏻

Hey, I have the rode mic pro plus do I set it to 10 or +20 while setting the audio rec level on the camera to 14 like you said?
I would try it at +20 to start and then turn the camera down to 1. You will then want to either decrease the mic if the volume is still too hot or increase the camera volume if the mic is not loud enough. The recommendation is that you have the audio levels hitting around -12 when you are talking normal.
@@BrianTheCameraGuy Thank you so much for answering, also have you noticed that the camera flip the face wen recording, like taking video on an iPhone front camera? It would be great if I can change that. its driving me crazy ..
So you do not want it to mirror you?
@@BrianTheCameraGuy It's already mirroring me, I want to turn the mirroring thingy off. Could you help me?
I am not 100% sure. I do know that if you set everything up, turn off the camera and then turn it on with the screen in selfie mode then this will not happen.
Great vid #TeamSony
Thank you very much. #teamsony. What are you using right now?
Dude, thanks for the tutorial, it really helps.
But am I the only one that noticed the continuous background noice?
Yes, unfortunately the dryer was running and I did not think the mic would pick it up. Early lessons learned while you are growing your channel. Haha
I’m #teamsony this is an excellent review!
Thanks
Let me see if I can figure it out.
@@BrianTheCameraGuy same problem here, and there is no preview screen during 4K recording...
Do you have Proxy Recordings turned on? If that is on the face detect will not work.
@@BrianTheCameraGuy oh yes, got it thanks!
So that did the trick?

Thanks, Brian for the time and attention.
You are welcome. I was probably going to do a comparison be the a6400 and the a7C. I was going to compare slow motion and custom keys.
@@BrianTheCameraGuy That was indeed the reason. Thank you!
Awesome. I am so glad that fixed it. Do you have any other questions about the a6400?

I need -how to shoot slow motion video full explanation
An in depth video of how to use slow motion, perfect. Do you want it all the way through editing?
@@BrianTheCameraGuy why we are using 120pfs...?
No, do you want just my settings or do you want me to show the settings plus how I add them to my normal edits?
why touch tracking is unavailable in 4K setting?
Are you connected through an HDMI?
I can't find your setting for "record setting". This feature only shows 25p 100M and 25p 60M. How to find it, Sir?#teamsony
Here is an article that gives you more information.

Thank you sir
Slow motion please
I have got to get this video done.
SLow motion please
You got it. Working on that video for sure.
120fps settings please
You got it. Thank you so much for letting me know you want this video.
I’ve been using 4K30, but that’s just cuz my iPhone is my B cam and it’s doing 4K30.
That makes 100% sense. The only difference between 30p and 24p is the smoothness of the motion. Neither is wrong and a lot of people use 30p.
I have tried to use SLog 2 but always found that my exposing the footage has not gone well.
why in mine I only have 25p 100M and not 30p 100M?
This is because your camera is in the PAL setting. You would want to change to the NTSC setting on your camera. This gives you 24, 30, 60 and 120p in 1080 and 24 and 30p in 4k.

You got it man. Thank you so much for watching.
I have to give you feedback. You went much too fast ... it’s so so annoying to stop youtube restart again.., constantly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Also you didn’t mention on tab 1 page 5 last item “ switch V/H AF area” .. it’s off on my 6400 .. it appeared to be on on your cam.. what should it be?
Thank you for the feedback. I really like to talk fast, especially when I get excited. As far as that setting goes, I have mine set to "AF Point + AF Area". What other settings are you struggling with?
Thanks for your reply.I appreciate it. There are many questions but one is when I select say a 4K video choice, I only have 2 choices, whereas TH-cam trainers including yourself, had 4 choices. Why is that and can you trouble shoot that. Similarly, with HD I had less choices to select. I am having trouble with auto focus. I think I have turned it on where I should.. but I need guidance on ACTUALLY WHAT I DO TO GET IT WORKING. SHOW ONE EXAMPLE SLOWLY THEN ANOTHER AND SO ON
It you saying ‘ here is how to ,,, and another different
Thanks
I am not sure why your's would say only 2 options for 4k and 4 options for 1080. Are you shooting in PAL or NTSC?
Brian The Camera Guy thanks Brian, I hear you, but don’t understand theses terms and what the effects are of making changes... and I saw a trainer make some millisecond reference to “ PAL and NTSC” This all relates to 4K ???
. But Brain, 1. where do I find making a change/s in the menus 2. What do I actually do? 3 why? and 4. What does it all mean? Pleased to hear back from you.
Hi again. Do you have Instagram or Twitter? If so maybe we should connect there using private messages for me to try to help you.
Why do we see your face more than the actual settings, you're just moving too fast and it is super difficult to see what setting you actually choose.
Thank you for the feedback. I do tend to talk really fast and get very amped up for my videos. I will definitely slow down in the future.
