  • Do you want to know where best to place your Cabin Nester to maximise the chances of a robin or wren using it this springtime? wildlifeworld....
Simon responds to customer questions about where and how to put up their Cabin Nester - the best place, height and area of your garden.
The Cabin Nester is an open nester which is preferred by many small wild bird species including robins, wrens and flycatchers, with a concealed nest site inside away from the prying eyes of predators.

Hi. We have been very excited because for the first time we have had Robbins nest and bring up a family. It's now mid April and should I clear out the old nest martial or leave it. Thank you so much for the video. Terry.

Hi Terry, at the moment, no. Leave it in there. Come late September, you can then clear it out. You can only clean nest boxes in the winter, between late autumn and February. Thanks

What direction should the birdhouse be facing? My friend told me I should hang the house facing southeast or straight south, but it seems I don't see bird nesting in there, my neighbor have their birdhouse facing northwest, the bird already started making their nest a month ago.

Hi there, you could pop it up to 2 metres high if you are worried and still appeal to robins. Thank you

I have a robin that is now quite used to me feeding her. Got the same nest and left it in the branches of a tree that she usually stay in. Recently found a mice who is feeding on her food that I leave on the patio! So I am now worried that it gets into her nest too. I now leave some food for her in the back of the nest to get her used to going in. How to keep this mice away from her nest.

We often see other wildlife repurposing bird nests in particular. It is something both mice and bees do in the wild.

This nest position seems like an open invitation to cats.
