    PS: The reason it is heavier, is because it is much safer. it is like the SAABs, you never knew why it cost so much, until you crashed it, to quote jeremy clarkson.

    These reviews are really good and comprehensive Steve. I watch them just because I like them; I can't even drive yet.

    You see people, some technology is good to have these days. I like the auto-brake system. Quite genious actually

    Auto Headlights and paddle shifters are unecessary. Most paddle shifters dont work any better than the auto stick counterpart or a manual.
    All in all, another great review Steve.

    It does in fact have automatic lighting. It just doesn't say on the display it does.

    @ThousanWhite For fun, I just built a 335i xDrive and equipped it as close as I could to the S60 I was given and it came in at just under $48,000...about $4,300 more than the S60. So yeah, that's pretty significant. I see your point.

    the best thing abut volvos are the seats. That's the real secret.

  • @radudeATL

    Design-wise, I don't care much for the front overhang on the exterior. Or the asymmetric dash design in the interior. But this is about the sexiest thing Volvo has built. Ever.

    Not for nothing, because this is a great looking car, and I enjoyed my own test drive of it, but I'd happily give up the edge in performance for the styling and refinement of the Buick Regal--and actually, I did. It's what I bought recently. The Regal just has the overall edge, and the pricing is competitive. Also I'm a former 3 series owner, and I'd say the S60 and 3 series are pretty much on par--a good thing, yes, but not enough to earn my purchase and definitely not a benchmark vehicle.

    @edersiomoran I would have appreciated paddle shifters here and auto headlights should be standard (as just about are) on everything these days. Just seems a little dated to me.

  • @Tomskii5
    @Tomskii5 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Volvo's always have light on, you can only put them in daylight mode but other than that they are always on. So yes auto lights somehow.

  • @stevehammes
    @stevehammes  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @DJEddieXZ I totally get that! I like the Volvo angle, if you will. They go their own way in many regards and the S60 should bear fruit for them.

  • @wsijtsma
    @wsijtsma 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @tobythesandwich It does have auto on/off lights.

  • @chicoloco341
    @chicoloco341 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @DJEddieXZ Yes sir, there is just a special fit and finish to the Volvo interiors, my 98 volvo S90 still has the premium leather seats with excellent attributes even when comparing it to a new Honda or Acura (very nice, the reason i compare them).

  • @tobythesandwich

    Auto headlights? Are you sure the car isn't equipped with them? I have a 2002 and it's equipped with auto on/off headlights. A lot of the time you play with the switch and it puts them in the wrong mode. It was a common complaint when GM first started introducing the systems some years ago.

  • @Tomskii5
    @Tomskii5 11 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I don't see why all cars should be compared to the germans. It's not like the germans have improved a lot in terms of reliability of their engines.

  • @stevehammes
    @stevehammes  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ThousanWhite Right, but I wouldn't call it a lot cheaper. Add a navi to my tester and a few other tricks and you won't strain your eyes to see $50,000.

  • @stevehammes
    @stevehammes  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @flyerholland Seeing as how there currently is no S60 R and the T6 is the top engine choice it seems like the fairest Audi comparison is to the S4 rather than the A4. The engines and power raitngs are more similar even though the S4 costs a bit more.

    3900 lbs! man that's heavy.. does the weight come into play in the acceleration or handling alot? 26 mpg highway for a heavy awd car though is still pretty amazing! in terms of price, it is cheaper than the bmw or audi but at the same time like you said it lacks alot of features..

  • @adimadmanz
    @adimadmanz 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    well I am from sweden and the 335 costs abour 635 000 swedish crowns about 65 thousand euros and an s60 cost about 350 thousand crowns 33 thousand euros here in sweden it is a lot of car for the money:)

  • @MrRuv10
    @MrRuv10 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Err...no Automatic headlights when it gets dark. I have to say, I have lost count when I see countless drivers drive without their light on, when its dark out there-which if you ask me this is top in the waiting for an accident list. Anyway, it sounds a bit contradicting when one says how 'safe' they really are when theres no such feature. Personally, I ll still stick to the 3 series...

  • @ThousanWhite
    @ThousanWhite 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, saying it's not quite a BMW 335xi or a Audi S4 is a huge compliment, given that the Volvo is a lot cheaper.

  • @checkie4ever
    @checkie4ever 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks, good review. Car is awesome, but it's performance numbers and weight is bothersome. As you pointed out, new S4 has also 3.0 turbo with almost same horsepower, but it is one of those smart designs and runs almost second ahead to sixty?! That's a lot for very close designs and close to 4000 pounds weight? That's a weight of BMW 5 series, Audi A6 or Benz E class.
    They are few hundred pounds over the class standard and that probably cost Volvo to be contender of cheaper S4

  • @Vanrocco66
    @Vanrocco66 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a nice car but for this money I like the Saab 9-3 Aero. The new Saab 9-5 is an even better option and with the current discounts, is cheaper than the S60.

  • @chris2586

    Nice review but I will never get a Volvo. Who owns it now? My father's S40 was constantly being recalled for mechanical problems so he got fed up and got a Lexus.

    No auto headlights or power lumber support in a $40,000.00 Plus car!? I guess I'd have to take it out on a test drive to make up my mind on this one.

  • @ThousanWhite
    @ThousanWhite 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @stevehammes It's definitely a lot cheaper. A loaded S60 will scrape around $48,000. $50,000 ain't cheap, but I'm saying that a loaded 335xi will catch you for at least around $58,000 and a loaded S4 is asking for well north of $61k. I could definitely say that comparing apples to apples, the S60 is a lot cheaper.

    It's not a BMW or Audi but it dosn't have the pricetag so it's a good car, German cars are worst when it comes to extras so a fully loaded BMW should cost atleast 30$ if not more than the base model.

  • @TheInvstg8r

    No auto headlights or power lumber support in a $40,000.00 Plus car!? Thats could possibly constitute a deal breaker in my book of rules!

  • @fesen2
    @fesen2 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Vanrocco66 The new 9-5 dosn't compete with S/V60, the main rival is S80 and i think that the Saab is better, many motorjournalists say the chassi is as good or even better than BMW 5-series, Audi A6 (new one) and Merc E-class but Saab dosn't have as good engines or gearboxes to match the germans, 50% of Sweden drive diesels and they have no V6 diesels and just small 4-cylinders for a very big and heavy car.

  • @quatlen
    @quatlen 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @yumyumluckycharms If you compare car to car the E-class would dominate this 2011 S60 but when you factor in the price difference then the S60 gains a lot of ground.
