I was in that area of Maine's seashore back in a girlhood vacation in 1967. I loved the sea and rocks, the surf sound, ocean smell, and the wind in my face. Your video brought it all back to me (except the "shore dinner" I had afterwards in town!) I didn't know until now the history of that magnificent lighthouse. Thanks!
I love light houses they have a mysterious beauty about them, as well as the sea. The amazing old mansion ruins fit right into the picture. Yes, I can imagine Wadsworth sitting there staring out at sea, and getting inspiration for poetry.
Thanks! That was the reason that I started making these videos to begin with. Hopefully, people will share these videos out from time to time so that more can become aware of them :)
I used to live half a mile from here and basically learned to walk there when I was a kid! My 4x great grandfather was General John Goddard and that was his mansion, so cool to see this place on TH-cam
@@TheHistoryUnderground no problem! My dad also spend a night in the light house in the early 60s before the base was decommissioned, keep up the good work man!
I just want to say I very much appreciate your videos! My kids (18, 15, and 11) enjoy them right along with me. One thing I believe in is a quote from Ronald Reagan... those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it. Like you I’m not a big ocean guy, but have always liked beautiful secluded places. This certainly foots the bill. I liked to be in the house next to the lighthouse during a storm. That would be neat! Thanks for sharing.
That is some pretty cool stuff. My dad grew up a mile from the coast in Santa Cruz. Straight out of H.S. he went into the navy for 20 years. He loved the ocean. We spread his ashes in Monterey Bay Ca. I've been in Colorado my whole life, that's where he moved after the Navy. I've always regretted not being able to spend time on the water like he did.
Really enjoy these videos. Thanks for sharing your travels. If I had the means to travel the country, I would spend time in every state. Until that day comes I will just continue watching your videos. Keep up the good work!
Stunning scenery. So much history. When you look at the ocean can you just imagine our forefathers and mothers seeing land as they approached a whole new life. Gives me chills. Thank you for yet another piece of history. Blessing to you young man.
I watched the first half a couple days ago but got interrupted and just got back to watch the rest. The mansion was definitely worth a look. Beautiful stone work. Didn't they offer a trip to the top of the lighthouse? Much like you, I hate heights, but I have gone to the top of every lighthouse I've had the chance to. Even walked the parapet with a death grip on the railing the whole way around. Last one was the Key West light.
Did I miss you saying when or how it(hotel) burned down(assuming it was a fire)? Old lighthouses are so beautiful and rich with history. I'm a west coast man and have had the opportunity to visit a few here. So beautiful photography you do in addition to your narratives. Thanks once again!

Thanks again for an awesome video. I will probably never get the opportunity to visit Maine in person and your visits to these locations offer a glimpse at how our country is different but absolutely breathtaking at the same time. God bless you in your travels!!

I grew up about 20 minutes from here (still have family in the area) and have been here countless times over the years. For people wondering, both the mansion and lighthouse are at Ft Williams park (along with the old military structures which I assume he’s going to show in the next video). You can just park your car and walk to all these things as they are all close to each other. Glad to see my home state represented.
Yep, gonna show a few of the batteries of Ft. Williams in the next video. I absolutely loved my time up there. Could've sat at that lighthouse for hours.
Love Lighthouses. Grew up on the west coast and have visited several. The Crescent City one is very interesting, and accessible at low tide, you can walk out to it. Point Reyes if I remember correctly is furthest west. Coastal towns have some of the most interesting history. Thanks for a most enjoyable video. 👍👍👍😊 🎄
Come to Michigan and visit all of our lighthouses. You will like the history. Also my home town is where Edison grew up. His family is buried here. We have a museum in the depot he worked out of as a teenager working on the railroad. Also look across the end of Lake Huron where it meets the St. Clair and see Canada. Great film as always. Thank you.
Stunning video very soothing especially the drone footage of the lighthouse. Very reminiscent of Lands End Cornwall in England. Also enjoyed you reading the poem.Have you thought about narrating an audio book? Thank you so much for your fab content.

I grew up in South Portland (bordering Cape Elizabeth) and visited Ft Williams where my Dad was stationed during WWII many times. If the wind was just right, we could hear the fog horn at Portland Headlight when it was on. Great video!

Lobsters, lighthouses,...and the 20th Maine!!! When you are in Maine you realize how at home the 20th must have been among the boulders of Little Roundtop.
Well done! I spend a fair amount of time in Maine on business and vacation. I have seen most of the lighthouses and forts. Never knew about the Goddard house.
HEY, great video if your staying up north swing over to VERMONT that would be great, well I love old lighthouses we had a old lighthouse in sea side park where I'm from in CT
Reminds me of that dear old Christian song, "The Lighthouse". Note my name, lol. I am over 60. I thank God for the lighthouse. I owe my life to Him, for King Jesus is The Lighthouse, and from the rocks of sin, He has shown His Light around me, that I might clearly see... If it wasn't for The Lighthouse, tell me, Where would this ship be? Many YT versions out there. First time I heard it was in ~ 1973. I was 13. Another Christian sea-faring song? The Anchor Holds. Made popular by the amazing Christian vocalist and musician Ray Boltz, but written and sang by Lawrence Chewning (sp?). Lawrence has an amazing, powerful testimony about the origin of The Anchor Holds. I would highly recommend that you Google it on TH-cam. There's one vid on YT that's over 12 minutes long. Click there. Powerful, to say the least, as we all struggle these days heading toward the end of 2020. God is still our Lighthouse, and His eternal anchor still holds, firmly and unmoving in the storms of our lives. Amen? Ray Boltz loved the Lord to the center of his soul, but trajecically ended his own life, because he couldn't reconcile God's Grace with his homosexual proclivities. He finally repented, took his own life, and is now resting, "Sheltered in the Arms of God". Another great song about the storms of our lives. Great version? The Gaithers. Stay safe and well to you and yours, everyone, from your eternal sister in Christ somewhere near Seattle and around the World. Need a pep in your step? Google: Ivan Parker, When I Get Carried Away. ... and crank it up!, lol... Love and prayers, always. ⚘ 🙏❤🙏 ⚘
Great video. I started following you a few months ago and really enjoy every video. I was born and raised in Maine and still live here. Would have been great to collaborate.
Have you ever been to or have video's of Massachusetts, (Boston, Concord or Lexington.) lot's of history in this area, you do a great job and i enjoy watching.
Maybe my situation is sort of normal. I am referring to when I was younger, I was not a all interested in history. But now I am old, I am very interested in the past. I have so many questions that I wish I would have asked my grandparent, but of course, that is now impossible. I think I mentioned before that I was stationed in the Navy in Maine (Brunswick NAS) and at the time, I had no idea about all of the historical facts about Maine. I could tell you a lot about the good fishing places around Auburn and Lewiston and others around Wiscasset, but I could tell you none of the history of that interesting state. I thank you for your videos. I guess I can say that it is never too late to learn about the past.
If you really want to see the ocean's beauty, go there some night at moonrise. The moonlight makes a pathway across the ocean that looks like it's showing you a way into another world.

Well done! I spend a fair amount of time in Maine on business and vacation. I have seen most of the lighthouses and forts. Never knew about the Goddard house.
Pretty amazing area. I really enjoyed myself there.
That was so cool! Thx for sharing.
You bet! Thanks for watching.
I grew up in Cape Elizabeth
Fantastic video and love your videos thank you
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos. I used to live in VT and NH.
Appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
HEY, great video if your staying up north swing over to VERMONT that would be great, well I love old lighthouses we had a old lighthouse in sea side park where I'm from in CT
I'm already back home but I would love to get over to Vermont at some point. Can't say that I've ever been there.
I've been here! Love living in New England ❤❤
Definitely want to spend some more time up there.
@@TheHistoryUnderground check out the Nathan Hale homestead in Coventry, CT!
Reminds me of that dear old Christian song, "The Lighthouse". Note my name, lol. I am over 60.
I thank God for the lighthouse.
I owe my life to Him,
for King Jesus is
The Lighthouse,
and from the rocks of sin,
He has shown
His Light around me,
that I might clearly see...
If it wasn't for
The Lighthouse, tell me,
Where would this ship be?

Ivan Parker,

... and crank it up!, lol...
Love and prayers, always.

You should hit up the Joshua Chamberlain house while up in Maine.
Definitely want to get back up there and check that out. Just didn't have enough time on this trip.
Wow! Very cool!
I thought so too. Very peaceful place.
I wonder what happened to the big house, burnt maybe?
Great video. I started following you a few months ago and really enjoy every video. I was born and raised in Maine and still live here. Would have been great to collaborate.
Appreciate that. I had passed through Maine before but had never really spent any time there. Loved your state.
Amen to that. Always learning!
Ever day I'm amazed at the beauty of God. No man can surpass his power.
Amen to that.
@@TheHistoryUnderground And again.
You need to check out ha ha Tonka in Missouri
That mansion should be restored, as long as those walls and foundation are still good.
Possibly your most beautifully filmed video, the drone work on this one was truly majestic. Keep up the great work!
Thank you. It’s definitely a place that lends itself well to being photographed and filmed. I could’ve spent hours there.
If you really want to see the ocean's beauty, go there some night at moonrise. The moonlight makes a pathway across the ocean that looks like it's showing you a way into another world.
Oh wow. I’ll bet that’s something else.
