Dowman coming through as well Hale End has hit the jackpot. 3 world class talents who are amazing both physically and technically for their ages with professional personalities and an external love for their boyhood clubs? Simply insane luck for Arsenal
It's not really luck, it's deliberate cultivation. Obviously there's an element of fortune but it's no coincidence that some clubs are known for this kind of thing, even over a period of decades. Arsenal started a specific plan for improving the academy some ~15 years ago iirc and in that time we've slowly seen the number & quality of products improve as expected. Hopefully there should be more of this to come from the academy in the years ahead; hopefully it is a direct result of intentional action and not just luck.
It’s really refreshing to see our academy producing such talent! With the right guidance I can see our academy being compared to Barcelona’s academy. The future is really bright 👏
As much as I love Ethan, I can’t hide my excitement for Myles. He has the potential to be one of those rare, truly all-round midfielders. With the exception of perhaps one or two La Masia players, I’m not sure there is another 18yo player like Myles in Europe atm. Perhaps I’m over hyping him a little, but I truly believe it.
The future of football is versatility. That’s why I think that Nwaneri and Lewis Skelly will have a good career. For example, Tierney doesn’t have the technicality to invert, he doesn’t have the silky touch and close control, and he can’t read the game and pass like a central midfielder. Zinchenko is a lot better. He can invert. The ability to invert is a superpower in modern football because the number 8 or 10 can then push higher up the pitch, creating central overloads. However, Zinchenko lacks the athleticism to overlap, to allow the winger to drive inside. So he is not perfect. Because it still lacks variety. Calafiori and Timber can both invert and overlap. So our wingers can now stay wide and drive inside depending on the situation. It offers us more variety in the attack. The fact that Calafiori and Timber can both invert and overlap, have the technicality to dribble like a winger, pass and control well like a central midfielder, can defend like a centre back with good athleticism and physicality, can offer us centre back type of set pieces threat/defensive capability, is a massive upgrade to our team. Lewis Skelly is kind of similar. The same applies to Nwaneri, when he is out wide, he can be a fairly skillful winger. When he comes central, he can read the game and pass like a central player. This generates a lot more position swapping opportunities, which would improve our unpredictability and fluidity, adding more chaos to our attack.
Arteta was asked in the most recent press conference, on whether he has taken things from La Masia and try to implement them in the Arsenal academy. Arteta’s answer is, the regulations are different, and the most impactful things you could do in La Masia (in Spain), you couldn’t do that at Arsenal (in England). I’m not saying that we can’t or we are not producing good players. It’s just that I’m curious to know what are those obstacles that Arteta was mentioning. The Hale End documentary shows a lot of positives. What do you think we are doing right, what is the direction of our current academy is heading towards, and what we can further improve on?
Chido doesn't seem to be ripping up trees at Utd. Not sure he has as many goals in total as he had in one game Vs Liverpool at Arsenal. Would be a shame if he doesn't make the top flight grade, which frankly most don't. Maybe though, as Utd needs a deep refresh, there is a future for him there. It's certainly tougher to get into Arsenal's team right now.
Why do you feel sorry for a player who left for money over club loyalty or career development? Going to ManU was stupid; frankly it serves him right to have fallen off.
Thanks for bringing attention to the No1 Fan Club, cant imagine the sacrifices the parents have to make whilst their pride and joy are chasing their dreams
Both amazing talents with feet firmly grounded. The Arsenal character is exemplified in them: humility and understated class. Let’s hope they soar to the heights they seem capable of reaching. Under Mikel’s tutelage, one would not bet against that.
I don't wanna talk about a player so young, it's crazy to think about. ...but unironically he's nuts and all the noise is that he's more ready then Nwaneri or Saka were at his age.
Good clip. Thank you for being positive. But I feel very deflated. The game today was rubbish and I do not think it is the players, it is the system. We are to hesitant in attack and I feel (but I am not an analyst like you are) that it is too much of the same. If I watch Newcastle for instance, I feel excited. Why can't we play a bit more like that? Our game is too slow, way to slow. Brighton on the other hand were aggressive and very energetic. Our passing was so poor today. And I am just beginning to have problem with Martinelli. He is a bit of a light weight and has not developed. He plays like he played 3 seasons ago. I strongly believe we need to replace him. On a positive note: I thought Partey was very good again.
Great analysis of these 2 kids, one very important things we should never do is hype them before they get the full understanding of the game and their role within the team, which is what Arteta doesn't want for these boys. Future looks great for the boys it's just that the future 6 games doesn't paint the while picture sure we can see the raw talent. Can't wait to see what they do incredible talent 🎉
I had very high expectations for Azeez, and I think his body movement was as good as MLS so I’m sorry it didn’t work out. Now MLS and Ethan are so exciting to watch, COYG!
i love your videos. the issue with Ethan and Saka too much risk of ball retention. when your 10 loses the ball our defence is stretched. he wanted midfield stability.
Mikel is really good at handling the footballing developement of Hale end graduate. MLS and Nwaneri really answer 80% of our problems. Ode & Wingback/Midfield help. However We still need a fucking saka replacement. And and FUCKING PURE Raya replacement
Edit: just got to TDK bringing this up, shoulda known a legend like him wouldn’t miss a cheeky tussle like that! A tad old school, but Myles impressed the hell outta me being the only geezer to physically confront Kalvin Phillips after “attempting” to throw Gabriel into the ad boards. Phillips tried with all he had but only moved Gabriel about half-inch 😂 levels
I have a pet theory of mine that Wenger’s supermarket dash of 2010 (or 2011? Don’t remember) is one of the best things to have happened to Arsenal. Arteta and Per Mertesacker having absolute blinders right now. Maybe Andre Santos can be our Edu replacement?
Skelly is perfect for a LB role because he is a huge upgrade of zinchenko which is good profile to have on your side but if I was to move him up then left 8 is the position for him
Let's not forget that this the same academy who Omari Hutchison left to join Chelsea for free who then 12 months later sold him to Ipswich Town for 25m...
For those willing to listen, it's worth noting that the Chido Obi Martin saga served as a catalyst for change in the club's approach to academy players. Mikel, in particular, was forced to reassess his methods after Chido decided to leave, citing a lack of opportunities for progression. Understandably, Chido felt frustrated by the absence of a clear pathway to the first team. However, this experience prompted Mikel to adapt and ensure that future academy graduates are aware of the opportunities available to them. It's refreshing to see our manager demonstrate the willingness to evolve and improve, unlike some of his counterparts - like Big Ange, who stubbornly sticks to his high line tactic, even in the face of adversity!
I don't think that's true. Myles and Ethan weren't ready to play the part they've played this year last year (while not affecting their development). Chido left because the truth is he had a long way to go, he was way ahead physically but had a lot of development to do technically before he could play U21 or first team; he probably thought he was further ahead than he was
i'm not in the "sack him" camp but I am genuinely curious why any of the stats you list in the beginning matter when we have absolutely nothing to show for them.
That Yamal is just different gravy!! Top top top class player already. Yeah we deffo need Ethan to be the Saka replacement for me but i think he is good enough. MLS is our current best lb and should be played in the important games for me coz he knows the sketch. Califori like Merino just seems to give me stress vibez. They keep passing it into the ibis
Both Myles and Ethan have probably been created in a lab. I've never seen 17 and 18 year old footballers with such ice in their veins. It is not normal lmao. It's not even about the quality, it's the composure and decision making they show as if they have been a pro for over 10 years.
@@aes1373 I mean in terms of the tempo setting, the line breaking passes and ability to ride challenges. MLS has superior dribbling but won’t necessarily have the goal threat that Xhaka had.
@@kunimitsune177 if you don’t see what Xhaka offered us, then you’re entitled to think so… but you’re wrong. For years he was deployed as a defensive midfielder, which isn’t his position. He played best for us in his last season where he was a box-box midfielder who could also dictate the tempo of the game. IMO it’s not a coincidence that Xabi Alonso (one of the greatest ever Spanish CMs) wanted him and won a Bundesliga title invincible with Xhaka as a major cog for their midfield.
Happy New Year, Alexander! Respect and appreciation for your humanistic perspective. As a HS teacher, I am (surprisingly at times) the first to remind others that while older teens may have physical features and responsibilities that make them seem like adults, they are still, developmentally speaking, children. Further, I agree with your assessment of the opportunity that was missed to integrate Ethan into the squad during Ødegaard's absence due to injury. Cheers!
They're not children in any way at all; they're adolescents. There's three stages of development, not just children -> adults. There's a reason they're sometimes called young adults and it's because, developmentally, they're actually closer to adults than they are to children (hence at 16 you can get married & join the army!). Don't infantilise your students, you'll only hinder their development.
He didn't make it at Arsenal but is playing for Lyon right now... not exactly the worst career of all times. You have to remember that most academy players don't make it to professionals at all. Compared to other clubs, remarkably many do so at Arsenal. Good work all around.
