You've seen what makes REAPER amazing! But..... It does have a few bad points. Check them out in this video: th-cam.com/video/kjBW5bA4RMA/w-d-xo.html

Yes, is the best. Absolutly flexible. You forgot that Reaper lets you try the DAW for free unlimited. Also one of my favorite reason is that is the best to work with VST. Many DAWs crashes when using VST but not Reaper. There´re many other things but the best is that they work permanatly developing the software and is updated very frequently. Good video. Thanks.

Flexible as in blame the user when the gui never works out, just get reaper with out it and avoid the delusional anti pro tools games, its calked studio one with out the silky 90’s guis

Great video ! I'm with Protools and it takes forever to open a session but not with Reaper ,
I love how quick it is and having the slider appear as soon as you creat a new track , everything's faster so goodbye PT !
I think it will be a question of time for Sudio's to realize how great it is.

REAPER has the best undo function by far. Almost any move can be undone or redone (depending on the Preferences settings). Also, the ability to disable the mouse wheel on certain elements-like faders- helps avoid making moves in error (sometimes unknown to the user).

It took me a while to adjust to Reaper. All my friends use Ableton, Logic, pro tools etc and they have a negative attitude towards reaper. So I guess that rubbed off on me. Every time something wasn't going right I always wanted to blame reaper but it never failed, it was always a user error. lol Now I wouldn't trade Reaper for pro tools, Ableton, none of them. It's the best after you get familiar.

I think Waveform 12 by Tracktion is the best DAW plus it's free. Waveform 12 has the best graphical interface. Automation is quick and easy like Ableton. Vocal Comping and any other comping is super quick and easy.

    • @TheHomeMusicMaker

It sounds like the issue MIGHT be your computer lagging up due to CPU overload. If you have a track with lots plugins, this is pretty likely. I used to have this issue before I invested in a computer with a lot of RAM! I recommend checking out this article here:
www.homemusicmaker.com/reaper-performance-meter It goes over the REAPER performance meter and some tips to free up some CPU (increase the buffer size, render plugins onto a track, etc.).

@@TheHomeMusicMaker thanks I actually have a Windows 11 machine Intel i7 11th gen(1165G) with 2.8 Ghz base frequency & 32 GB RAM all running on 2TB SSD nvme m.2 but even with buffer size at 512 Reaper seems to present pops and crackles worse when I try mute a track so I can just focus on it during mixing process. At that spec level I really didn't expect it have such issues on a project with about 71 tracks using the same 4 5 instrument plugins on most of the tracks and on the mixing side mostly ReeQ & ReCompx on most channels. Funny enough Cakewalk doesn't seem to present the same issues. Hence my question if it's a Reaper issue especially with Intel CPU's. My audio interface is M-Audion 192|4 using it's native ASIO driver.

@@sirsilva7079 Hmmmm definitely a bit of a stumper! I'm not an expert once we start getting deep into computer specs, but let me take a stab at it and see if I have any tips.
First off, are you perhaps running virtual instruments and plugins off of your SSD drives? If so, this can reduce the performance of any DAW because your computer uses more RAM to use them. I recommend using virtual instruments off of your primary drive.
Also, if you're mixing and mastering, you could try a buffer size of 1024 to help a bit more? Not ideal for recording, but it's not a massive issue for monitoring and playback.
Next, I know you are already using an ASIO driver, but you COULD try ASIO 4 ALL; it's done wonders for me in the past as long as it will work with your audio interface. Also, it's free. Here it is: www.asio4all.org
I also want to add that, yes, in the past, I have had far more issues running REAPER on Intel/Windows devices in general. I'm not sure why, but this may play a role.
Lastly, I want to add that my system is a 3.2Ghz processor, 32 GB RAM, etc., and I sometimes have some issues, though not as extreme as yours sound.
This is definitely kind of a challenging one, and I know we already linked you to the performance meter article, but stay tuned for the 'REAPER Performance Meter' video coming out very soon. I just filmed it today, and I demonstrate how I can cut my REAPER CPU from 50% to under 10% in under 10 minutes.
I know you already saw the article, but the video might be a bit more detailed.
I wish I could think of a few other causes. Keep me posted. Cheers!

Thank you, yes I will be waiting for that video 🙂 Yeah so the vst plugins are installed on the primary partition of the SSD which I use purely for programs. I have Asio4all installed as well (I will do the switch to it and see if there is some improvement)

@@siddharthgupta5489 Hey man, it’s a bit hard for me to know what you’re experiencing without seeing your setup in person, but I’m going to try and give you some ideas.
First off, it sounds like the issue MIGHT be your computer lagging up due to CPU overload. If you have a track with a bunch of plugins, this is pretty likely. I used to have this issue all the time before I invested in a computer with a lot of RAM (this took me a long time to save up for, so no rush). I recommend checking out this article here:
www.homemusicmaker.com/reaper-performance-meter It goes over the REAPER performance meter and some tips to free up some CPU (increase the buffer size, render plugins onto a track, etc.).
Another possible issue is that you’re experiencing latency between your MIDI keyboard and REAPER. I would suggest taking a peek at this article also:
www.homemusicmaker.com/fix-latency-in-reaper This goes over fixing latency in REAPER in case this is the cause of your problem.
Lastly, I also have this article to check out:
www.homemusicmaker.com/reaper-playback-issues which goes over general playback issues in REAPER might help decipher your problem.
I wish there was more I could do without seeing the problem in person, but I hope these resources help you get producing again.

I'm sure there's a lot more to Reaper than what you mentioned but every single thing you mentioned FL Studio 20 and some other DAWs have. Nothing unique. I came here because I wondered why Reaper was rated higher than Bitwig, Ableton, and Studio One which were other DAWs I was considering switching to.
So far I like how Ableton auto-syncs loops BPM as you preview them and Bitwig's modulation and randomization is leagues better than FL's.

I have my thoughts on a few things.
The price. Every Reaper user is always boasting and gloating about the price. Indeed Reaper is very cheap and the functionality is absolutely 100%, but you do buy a completely empty DAW, no samples, no instruments, the effects are ugly as hell and limited. If you want to have this DAW on par with for example Logic, Ableton etc... you would have to invest in something like Native Instruments Komplete standard, that is €600.- extra. Besides that, of course something like Pro Tools with a costly monthly subscription is very expensive in comparison, but I think an investment of 300 to 600 for a piece of software you're gonna use intensively is a very normal price. I mean price is not so relevant for something you need or use a lot. You want something good and nice.
For some reason people say Reaper is a good DAW to begin with, I have worked for many years with lots of different DAW's, but even for me Reaper had a very steep learning curve due to all custom settings and the routing was not so straight forward, I find it one of the more complicated DAW's to get used to.
I do end mixes with video in Reaper, l like it better than Pro Tools, but Reaper is not all sunshine. For someone starting I would never ever advise you to buy Reaper, Logic or Ableton standard is then a much more sensible choice.
    Cheers
    Frank
