lag doesn't just mean distraction or lack of interest it also means disconnection between one scene to another and in historical movie like this one disconnection with history itself. I did not read the book, many said it was a history book but after the movie i felt like the book would be a romantic novel and it's story is taking place during Cholas around 1000 CE. Problem was and i personally felt this, the movie is confused about whether it want to focus of history or romance. Thus i felt like both track are missing some parts which lead to often me being confused by the action of few character which made zero sense and at the end...well i still didn't get what the core of the movie is or what the movie is trying to say.
This on top of poor research about said time period like what our lands would have looked like during that time and other history elements like weapons, armor, economy, trade, etc.... We are talking about 1000 CE, why were the soldiers bare body like some Telugu movie goons?. Sure plate armor did not come into our hands until 1500 CE but what about leather and other form of metal armor like sheet, scale etc...?. And they use elephants as a horse for a individual to ride into battle. It was tank or archery platform. Zero / very few research was made into making this film that someone like myself, who is from IT background and had no interest in history in school days could point out so many flaws in historical portion of this film.
And the romance part made zero sense all around. I was in total confusion about who has romantic feeling for whom and Nandi's action were so erratic if it was real life i would recommend that person to do a mental checkup. Also the funny part is they depicts Cholas royalty as someone who follows monogamy while in reality they followed polygamy this on top of women who satisfied just their sexual needs. So the scene where the king was so heart broken to have cheated on his wife with other women or kundavai being shocked about this is comical at best.
Also let me get this straight you want to kill a king and prince and you had access to kings own chamber instead of poisoning his food or air around him you just use hand to hand combat?. What's even worse, these rebels decided they are going to assassinate the king and his family which they know is not a morally right move and they are even ready to face them head to head, why not coat your weapons like sword, arrow and dagger with poison which i'm pretty sure assassins did during those time.
