He took the proud Chola Dynasty to feed his own ego that he is bigger than Rajamouli that's it. They did not give a Prologue or Tribute to Kalki nor Chola Kingdom. The book compels you to imagine a vast, mysterious Chola land with fierce Ponni nathi aka kaveri. There was no grand depiction of Lord Shiva, King's rituals nothing. And they are showing great "Pandyas" as some dirty agori rowdies. What is this Maniratnam? I knew he gonna do this.

I'm going to watch the film on Sunday in Hong Kong. Still excited for the film, but definitely agree with your commentary about the hardcore fans who overhype the film and don't accept criticism of Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman. They're still just people at the end of the day. Mani Ratnam is already quite old now, and could definitely see him going past his peak from the late 80s-90s. And I'd like to say, I don't know why people are saying PS 1 is a film like Bahubali for Tamil audiences. We've already had plenty of epic films like Aayirathil Oruvan, 23rd Pulikesi and many older films. Not every big budget film has to be pan Indian or have huge box office to be considered worthy.

Jayam Ravi acted very well but honestly first half was pretty good (even with the confusing and hard to follow screenplay) due to Karthi but the film just wasn't up to the standard of other historical films with the whole production and CGI. Whole film was convoluted as hell and weirdly paced. Some scenes literally looked like a low budget production that it was shocking it was shot by legendary Ravi Varman (ofc much of the shots were epic).

A bit confused. The movie is based on the book- there r fans for the book. I like the book and the story. There r definitely improvements in the screenplay for the movie that could have been made to make it easier to understand for non readers but it was still a great effort & the characters fit really well. But this roast seems more for the story than the movie? I mean it’s like roasting Troy saying why there shud be a war for Helene? I mean that’s the story and we can only judge the movie on how well it was made. If you don’t like PS as a novel that’s something else. But not all novels are for everyone to like.

Sometimes I feel like people laud this film because of mass hysteria and fear of standing out. Honestly, I've never felt sleepy in a theatre. Or tired. Laabam paarkumbodhu kooda focus oda paarthen. But I kind of spaced out and felt worn out eventually when I was watching Ponniyin Selvan. Everybody around us are ganging up and calling this a heritage project and all. Should somebody actually voice out a critical opinion like Sarvs just did, they'd be singled out and would land in some trouble. Plip Plip aren't people who are edgy just for the heck of it. They are critics!
Not our problem if you lack the brain capacity to appreciate the intricacies and nuances of this movie. Everything from cinematography, music, settings and acting was almost perfect. Most modern people like you are attention deficient and are unable to watch a movie that is slow paced an nuanced because your mind has been ruined by watching crap like RRR and KGF. Constant noise and meaningless action has made you unable to appreciate this project. Go look at foreigners reviews. They are praising Mani Ratnam for being a masterclass director after watching this movie because the Western audience is able to appreciate the screenplay even when not much action/drama is going on.

A bit confused. The movie is based on the book- there r fans for the book. I like the book and the story. There r definitely improvements in the screenplay for the movie that could have been made to make it easier to understand for non readers but it was still a great effort & the characters fit really well. But this roast seems more for the story than the movie? I mean it’s like roasting Troy saying why there shud be a war for Helene? I mean that’s the story and we can only judge the movie on how well it was made. If you don’t like PS as a novel that’s something else. But not all novels are for everyone to like.

As always sarvs and gurubhai on fire, imo the roast have gotten diluted after that recent issue, I kinda expected this to be a full on war mode, still enjoyed a lot. 9:16 instead of "manipulative wife" the old sarvs would've said "Dominatrix Wife", missing those golden days raw Sarvs. Special appreciation on "Vanma time" that was unexpected which was targeted towards the imbeciles, and stans, sarvs didn't have to do that, it's like his bottled up rage exploded, I mean why not!!?? Obviously recent movies are so dumb. I personally expected him to roast the work and the creator. May be next time.
I just read the first book and Nandhini comes off as seriously wanting revenge an Aditha Karikalan afraid that she has him under control. Far much more powerful than what I saw in the movie.

Sometimes I feel like people laud this film because of mass hysteria and fear of standing out. Honestly, I've never felt sleepy in a theatre. Or tired. Laabam paarkumbodhu kooda focus oda paarthen. But I kind of spaced out and felt worn out eventually when I was watching Ponniyin Selvan. Everybody around us are ganging up and calling this a heritage project and all. Should somebody actually voice out a critical opinion like Sarvs just did, they'd be singled out and would land in some trouble. Plip Plip aren't people who are edgy just for the heck of it. They are critics!
Not our problem if you lack the brain capacity to appreciate the intricacies and nuances of this movie. Everything from cinematography, music, settings and acting was almost perfect. Most modern people like you are attention deficient and are unable to watch a movie that is slow paced an nuanced because your mind has been ruined by watching crap like RRR and KGF. Constant noise and meaningless action has made you unable to appreciate this project. Go look at foreigners reviews. They are praising Mani Ratnam for being a masterclass director after watching this movie because the Western audience is able to appreciate the screenplay even when not much action/drama is going on.
