  • The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air reboot "Bel Air" has premiered on Peacock... and it is what I believe to be the best reimagining in TV Show / Series history.
It's amazing how far an idea can go when it's met with the rights eyes and minds.
Starting off as a viral video ---- and now it's a running series.
Bel Air is the Fresh Prince like you've never thought you'd see it before.

Just binged the first three episodes and I was just blown away. There were a couple thing to get used to, like uncle Phil and Carlton were very different character from the original. Carlton was my favorite character in the og show so it's still taking a little bit of time to adjust but I do love the rivalry and differences in outlook Will and Carlton have because of their different upbringing. And i also love the aspect of uncle Phil's struggles with staying in touch with his community and how people's views towards him has changed since he became successful

Same here nd I'm with u on that opinion...Carlton and Wills rivalry has more of an impact on me now especially considering how they were in the previous show (not comparing the two).
They made a sitcom into an actual story to get behind...

In season one of fresh prince, Carlton was very condescending and self racist. This new show does a great job of showing a modern nonComedic version of this. Its exactly how my cousin was acting when I first moved to Florida to stay with him and my aunt and uncle last year. Territorial and unknowingly out of touch with people who didn't grow up wealthy.

Is this what the people of Bel-Air living like?
    Hmm this might be alright
But wait I hear they're prissy, bourgeois, all that
Is this the type of place that they just send this cool cat?
    I don't think so
I'll see when I get there
I hope they're prepared for the prince of Bel-Air
Well, the plane landed and when I came out
There was a dude who looked like a cop standing there with my name out
I ain't trying to get arrested yet, I just got here
I sprang with the quickness like lightning, disappeared
I whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said, "Fresh" and it had dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought "Nah, forget it, yo, holmes to Bel Air"
I pulled up to the house about seven or eight
And I yelled to the cabbie, "Yo holmes, smell ya later"

The decision to rework a sitcom as a straight drama series might not always be successful, but fortunately, it manages to be creative with its premise, and not simply rehash what made the original so iconic and fresh.

Reading reviews for the series on sites like IMDB are hilarious because almost every bad review is complaining about it not being a sitcom, which I find hilarious, so yea like you said, its hard to make that transition successful.

for the whole 2 aunt viv's thing, as a viewer, i saw it like having 2 mother figures at different points in my life.
I picked up the show when i was around 10-13 where TV had a huge influence on my life, having the Constrast of Uncle Phil and Janet's Aunt Viv was something I needed, taught me how to behave essentially.
When the next Aunt Viv came around i just remember her as a background character, BUT, i related to that since my mom was practically never around always working. When she was on screen, it was just nice to have her there, still part of the family, which made me appreciate when my mom was around, even though we didn't get to interact as much because she also worked from home.
idk if that makes sense, but that's how i remember it.

Slowly became one of the good guys and redeemed himself both to the other characters, and the audience. Now the only person that really seems to dislike him is apparently the series creator.

    • @oel734
      @oel734 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It's getting hate because it's WOKE Garbage.
Television shows like this should be entertaining.
There's nothing entertaining about having Social issues crammed down your throat or politics preached to you - You can watch the news for that.
The show accomplishes nothing in terms of furthering any cause. Quite the opposite.
In the first episode alone there is mention of:
      1.) Climate change
      2.) Racism,
3.) The dispute over who can say the N-Word
4.) The assertion that for a black person to be in the hood is to be "true to who you are"(that was a huge WTF moment for me. Is that the message Will Smith wants to send?)
5.) White kids shouting "Capitalism Sucks, Communism rules!" (so I guess ANTIFA is well-represented here, huh?)
6.) Defund the Police??? (Now I know BLM had a hand in this one; probably gave Will some extra $$$$ to put that in there)
      AND, of course :
7.) Wealth = white people(Because no white person is struggling to make ends meet, working shitty 9-to-5 jobs to pay the rent just to survive OBVIOUSLY (sarcasm))
Oh and then of course there's the uncle who is running for office on the basis of "stopping the school to prison pipeline." I felt I was watching CNN peddling its crap than a TV show.
It's amazing how obsessed the media and Hollywood is with injecting woke politics into literally everything and this show is no exception.
But hey! If you like it, so be it. Woke-Propaganda shows aren't my thing.
      Have a good one.

Where is the decrying of racist and sexist and other bigoted filled propaganda that has existed for far longer? But now marginalized people are speaking their realities and it makes you uncomfortable to have to hear.
It’s just like conservative politics continually pushing bills into law and banning books so they don’t have to teach their children the truth and hiding behind excuses of how white and/or hetero kids will be made uncomfortable.

People are approaching this with the wrong mindset. I agree with this sharing true same dna from the original yet is very different and it’s a great balance. People want to hate all reboots and sequels because there are plenty that aren’t good but it’s also a popular thing to do.

    • @thisisnotachannel
      @thisisnotachannel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The only "wrong mindset" is the one telling people that they have the "wrong mindset".
And the only reason they are saying that, is because they like the show, and can't fathom why someone else might not like it...
Same as I can't understand how anyone would actually enjoy this garbage show... but I wouldn't tell any of them that they have the "wrong mindset"... I'd just tell them that it's ok to like something that most others don't like.
And that's what this show is. Justifiably so.

The nostalgia parts were weird to me like how Lisa came in, the Malibu player and other nostalgia moment felt odd and out of place and I felt they only put them in to remind us that this is a remake of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (however, I do like how tray came in though as that one I didn’t feel it was forced). Also, I agree on the Carlton thing it is so weird how different Carlton is in Bel-Air and also Where is Ashley’s story? She said, "You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air"
I begged and pleaded with her day after day
But she packed my suitcase and sent me on my way
She gave me a kiss and then she gave me my ticket
I put my Walkman on and said, "I might as well kick it"
First class, yo this is bad
Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass
    I looked at my kingdom
    I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-Air

I was so skeptical from the trailers, gave it a chance and was pleasantly surprised. It’s like they changed all the right things while also retaining elements of the old show. Other reboots usually fail at both.
One thing I don’t fully like is how Uncle Phil is now. Carlton be talking spicy to Uncle Phil and I know OG Phil would not let him talk to him any type of way and put his foot down

Best reboot I've seen in years, heart felt funny not too dramatic, but realistic and all around dope, so it's a great successor to the original. Is Will a producer, I didn't see his name, anywhere in the title credits like I do in every episode of Cobra Kai.

I have to say, the Reboot is really good so far. The whole way that the story is structured, its getting me hyped for the next few episodes. Jabari Banks is basically THE modern day young Will Smith. The show's use of more up to date slang and the emphasis on the Black Community coming together and being heard works very well. Me and my mom used to love watching the original show and laughing at the jokes are great memories to me. My mom isn't exactly too pleased to hear about the reboot, but i hope she changes her mind.
I HOPE they adapt the shooting storyline, and seeing the new Carlton be afraid of his life to the point where he has to carry a gun. With the show's portraying how Will has PTSD from him using a gun to try and scare Rashad/getting arrested, it could be great character development between Will and Carlton. I know they won't hate each other's guts for the whole show. Carlton will lighten up in time. I hated seeing him like this when watching, but i feel like that was the show's intent. If anything, i KNOW he will redeem himself. Great video Vee!

I do believe there will come a point in this show when Carlton is able to overcome his demons and truly see Will as his equal. He has a true chip on his shoulder, and Will was only being respectful of him when he arrived at the Banks house. I hope they're going to adapt the fraternity storyline where Will is accepted but Carlton is shunned for not being "a brother" because of his privileged background. Maybe seeing Will defend him and then support him afterwards since becoming a part of that fraternity meant so much to him, that will cause Carlton to realise that Will isn't his enemy.
ETA: I've been thinking about you calling Carlton the main antagonist, I couldn't disagree more. He's a conflict, yes. But the antagonist is definitely the guy from Philadelphia who is looking to kill Will.
