@@DankMark1366 awful take bro. You know what all the best players have in common? Passion for the game. Id take a team of literal crybabies over a team of dudes who don't care if they win or not, because those crybabies will play harder.

Stephen Vogt is a rookie manager, following a Hall of Famer in Tito Francona. He inherited a team with some stars, and a lot of players who are good but need good leadership and teamwork to make for a winner. Vogt could have led this team to a .500 season and it probably would have been thought of as a respectable rookie start. But the Guardians have been much better than anyone expected. Vogt has exceeded our wildest dreams.
as a resident of Cleveland, this guardians team feels extremely special, i really hope they make a deep run just so i can watch fun baseball for longer, and i say this as a angels fan first bc i was born in cali and saw my first game in Anaheim, this gaurdians team give me strong 2002 angels vibes
I think an important aspect of Naylor celebrating is also that him and Manzardo both play 1st. Some guys would not be happy with the guy behind him doing well and would be worried about losing playing time
I said the same thing earlier on the MLB post about Vogt, but I wasn't sure what to expect from him at the singing. I think he's done a phenomenal job this season despite a few hiccups here and there. You can tell how much he loves the team and what they've done so far this season. I'm excited for what else they can accomplish this season and the rest to come.
As a Cleveland sports fan, all we can really rely on in this town is our heart. You saw it in LeBron, you see it in Vogt, and you see it in a lot of the guys on the Browns like Garrett. You need it here, and if you have it we will love you.
Cleveland traded one of Naylor's best friends in Civale to TB for 1st baseman prospect Kyle Manzardo. So to see them like this is special! And Vogter is THE man for this Cleveland team!
I was worried for the Guardians after Tito announced his retirement. I’m not worried any more. Vogt is amazing! Players see a manager like that and they’ll run through a brick wall for him.
For center fielders playing deep, I guess they’ve learned it’s easier to catch a ball when you run forward instead of backwards. Running at a ball and diving is a lot easier than having to turn and catch it running toward the wall
Additional context. Manzardo is/was one of our top prospects in the entire organization and struggled to adjust during his first call up. It was immediately apparent though that he was a great kid with a great attitude, and sending him back to Columbus wasn’t an easy decision. He has absolutely raked since being called up again and everyone on the team seems genuinely thrilled for him, including Naylor, who if they choose not to extend - Manzardo could be a major factor in that decision. Despite everything that happens behind the scenes with contracts, playing time, etc, Vogt has built onto the amazing culture in Cleveland that Francona started.
As a Cleveland fan, I had low expectations for this season Their payroll is about 1/3 of the major market and Vogt was a first time manager. These guys truly play for each other and the bull pen has a bunch of guys who just get it done. I’d love to have a beer or two with Vogt.
Just so you know, I NEARLY banned your account from this channel forever while going through my bot sweep, but figured the parody out at the last moment, THAT'S how excellent a job of parody you've done here.
Nice breakdown. Would have been good to show Arrighetti throw that curve in the first AB also. Arraez looked utterly turned inside out by it. Nice to see the young pitcher put that in his back pocket for a higher leverage situation.
Vogt being emotional from how the team is. It started with Tito and he has been the same type of manager that has succeeded in Cleveland. Also LOVE a Hammy call, the best in the business. It'll be hard for me to listen to the next after 26+ years of my life whenever he retires
Had topic that can be worth looking at, Reid Detmers and Bobby miller both were drafted out of Louisville in the first round in 2020, Miller and Detmers both struggled this year. They play for two drastically different teams, one with a reputation for failure and one with success but both players struggle nevertheless the less. Any thoughts on the 2 Louisville starters?
Some of the stairs at the Jake are like wet rocks with moss on them. It’s part of the charm. So im not surprised that fan ate concrete trying to catch that absolute bomb
it sucks stuff like this isn't a part of the normal talkin baseball podcast anymore - I still listen to every episode since the beginning, and love Jake n Plouffe, but digging through the weeds and making that stuff digestible seems like such a core part of the show that's missing, it's gotten to a point where it's the same pattern of updates rather than highlighting interesting storylines.
Many of us in Cleveland are cautiously optimistic about this team. Many are under the impression this is "the best team in baseball", but the playoffs will reveal any team's flaws in a hurry as we are certainly aware of. I was thinking Vogt was brought in since this team was going to continue to struggle and he could just resonate with the youth, but he has done a hell of a job and as much as I loved Tito he was just out of steam the last couple of years dealing with his own physical issues.
is there access to spin data off the bat for these line drives? im sure theres *some amount* of correlation with weird reads and outlier high and low spinrates off the bat. my only other idea is if a balls hit right at someone they might move some to get a different perspective bc they just straight up cant see how its moving/how fast
As far as the Naylor and Manzardo thing goes, part of it is that Manzardo is there to take Naylor’s job at first. Don’t think they’ll pay Josh so seeing him so pumped for the guy who is gonna be his replacement really shows how tight that clubhouse is.
With Randy throwing his bat last night against the Yankees leading to JRod getting picked off, I would be curious to see who throws their bat and/or breaks their bat at the highest rate. I feel like I see Randy throw his bat all the time but have no idea how you would find stats about that.
I'd chalk that Happ clip to the wind at Wrigley. Either that or he may have just slipped. Didn't look like one Happ would slide or dive for at all in a normal scenario.
Hey . To come into Cleveland. Which isn't easy. I'm hear to tell ya. Better yet. Taking over a job that was held by Tito for a decade. To achieve what he has ... Nothing short of inspired. Incredible. Furthermore. I think a turning point was . Can't exactly who we was playing. But Bibee was starting to labor a little. He went out there. Talk the kid up. And he ended up getting the strike out . Inning over. Bibbe let out a yell. It was great. Anyway. Go tribe.
i commented once that big diving play highlights were interesting because if the guy was more athletic he would have caught it without anything crazy happening and got demolished in the comments lol
The best play I ever made in high school made the front page of the sports section in the newspaper because it was a full extension all out dive down the right field line. Thing is, I completely misplayed it off the bat, took two steps back, and then had to full sprint towards the line as it tailed away from me. Horrible read. Thankfully, I caught it anyways lol
Vogt is awesome. He was awesome as a player and he clearly is as a manager. I love it. I became a little bit of a Cleveland fan just now, since my Giants won't make the playoffs. P.S. Can we stop using the expression "toxic masculinity", for Christ's sake? Masculinity is the characteristic of being male, full stop. The English language is so full of beautiful terms and expressions like stern, strict, indelicate, tactless, hard-shelled, stiff-necked, pig-brained, bull-headed, hard-hearted, heavy-handed, inconsiderate, obdurate, ossified, mulish, refractory... "Toxic masculinity" is not coherent English, it is a cat-lady-shibboleth
Hey bud, "toxic" is just a qualifier. Nobody is saying masculinity is bad on it's face. It's a way to distinguish between a bad version of something and a good version of something. And yes, sports have often lead the way in displays of overly aggressive, bad examples of masculinity. There isn't any need to bust out your thesaurus for a list of adjectives when a simple phrase can sum up all those words in a breviloquent manner. But hey, we'll still accept you as a Cleveland fan.
One note which I think is important to arraezs strikeout is that last time he batted he banged his knee really hard trying to slide home. I bet that had an effect on him too
