    Thanks for another excellent video Josie! I can’t believe how affordable the dental cleaning is there 😮 It is over $300 where I live in Canada 😣 I always love watching your videos as it gives me hope for a great life in Portugal when my family and I move there in 3 years after my daughter graduates university! Hope you have a great day!

    Thank you for video and giving us a peek into your monthly expenses. It’s very helpful when trying to plan my future budget. And I’m totally the type of person that would order delivery a lot! :-). Btw, your house looks gorgeous. ❤️

    Love your video. My husband and I are looking to move to Portugal in august of 2023 with our 4 young children (7,5,1,1). What kind of vehicle are you driving. I currently drive a Kia telluride.

    BTW your husband chose the minimum internet and cable plan, the cheapest and definitely not premium but good enough.

    How do they do trash pickup in Caldas? Is this worked into the property taxes? Planning on moving to Silver Coast (hopefully Caldas if we find a nice house there)

    • @josieinportugal6454
      @josieinportugal6454  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Unlike the US where you have your own trash can outside your house, Portugal has communal trash cans in designated areas. There are three separate trash cans. One for paper, one for plastic and one for trash.
      The city will then collect it every week or so. The price is included in your water bill I believe.

    Nice video. I was shocked by how much you spend each month! 4500-5000€ seems pretty high. Have you adjusted to Portugal way of spending and living?

    • @josieinportugal6454
      @josieinportugal6454  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      My monthly expenses seem high to the average couple who expects to live in Portugal for 2k. However, with a family of 5, things can quickly add up. A family can greatly reduce down costs by sending their children to public school and not eat out.
      If I did that, my monthly expenses would reduce down to less than 3k a month. Also, if we didn't have a mortgage and paid for our house outright, then our expenses would reduce down another 1400 making our overall budget to be 1600 a month (for a family of 5).
      However, we moved to Portugal not intending to live a frugal life here. We wanted to maintain a comfortable lifestyle similar to what we had back in the States.

      @@josieinportugal6454, you have a point. Kids are expensive and I don’t have any school age kids. Like you I’m from the DC area and am looking into the NHR program but need to find a location that has more to offer than a small town. Suggestions are always welcome. I liked one of your past videos where you advised against moving to Caldas if you are looking for public transportation or night life. I’m planning on renting a place for a month or two in Portugal next winter or Spring to see if I really like it before uprooting from the States.

    I think that most importantly is that you can afford it and it supports the lifestyle your family wants to.
    Do you have any idea how it would compare with the US?

    • @josieinportugal6454
      @josieinportugal6454  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. Prior to moving, our expenses was double if not triple what we spend here in Portugal. However, that was when we had 2 kids in daycare and a nanny. So that alone was 4k in childcare expenses. I'm glad that my kids aren't babies anymore.

    Hi Josie, Could you do a video about your experience as an asian woman in Portugal? Have people been welcoming? Is it different in the larger cities compared to the more rural areas? Considering the move for my family and my wife and daughters are asian and I worry about what the experience will be like for them.

    • @antoniof9756
      @antoniof9756 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People in Portugal are used with asians, mostly chinese, as there are chinese stores or restaurants in almost every city and vila (small town).

    Change to a electric car, have minimum 200 km range. If kids eat at school, food should be less expensive. Would like to meet your pet too. Have a nice day.
