As for the 1.25in or 1.5 inch shells i shoot em outta dr11 and they work for me, they dont go as high but they go high enough to be considered safe

What do you use for the off size shell if it doesn't fit in the 9?
The 1.25" tubes are more for the mini canisters and mini ball shells there is a little play between the shells and balls and the tube walls but the still launch into the air

Would it be more economical (and provide a better show) to swap some of below out for mortar tubes I can daisy chain? Did mortars once, but didn’t plan properly and I time dragged a little. Much better at daisying now.
Been doing a small July show on my buddy’s land for a few years using about a dozen pre-packaged 16, through 200 shot boxes and then I daisy chain a 4” wide 9 tube box + 200 shot box for the finally. We only spend about $800-1000.

My idea on the thinner shells...maybe try something like a sabot. made form paper or cardboard to wrap around the shell so it'll fit better?
You could try this, but it may weigh down the shell a bit

Just a side comment, I build guitars and work with wood a lot. For raw wood racks, I suggest applying a product called Tru-Oil, it's a gunstock finishing oil that's easy to use, just sand the wood clean, wipe it on and wipe it off for this purpose. It will seal the wood, protect it against the elements, prevent cracking and make it last a long time. Toss your racks in the back of the truck and let 'er rain. You can get it from Cabelas. I get people asking what shells go the highest and I never understood why the higher it goes the smaller and quieter it gets
Just breaking further away can make it sound quieter. That is why sometimes a 5” canister shell can sound louder than a 3” professional display shell. Because the display shells go much higher

I’m going firework shopping for Memorial Day so I can have them before they sell out.
Most if not all Fiberglass tubes work great. Taking into consideration that 6 shells are packed with a tube, the manufacturers are confident at least six shots per fiberglass tube. If you build a rack with them, its beat to use a toilet brush scrub them out after a few shots to prevent friction and warping or gumming.
I agree with other people you should demo real ball shells! As a comparison video!
Also I gotta buy more noise shells
CodyB what are your thoughts on Milk Crate Racks? I see you use them a lot but others on the web say they’re extremely dangerous?
I personally haven’t had any issues with milk crate racks that doesn’t mean they are 100% safe though. You can use them at your own risk
