    Calling them mellow fish is like calling a pitbull a retriever. Yes you can get mellow peas but due know they are very territorial and will nip and kill fish they deem a threat. Also shrimp and snails are pretty much doomed aswell so keep that also in mind

    • @cattfishing
      @cattfishing ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Depending on how long you're going to be away, you can have a sort of auto feeding type set up using live food.
      What I did was put a internal breeder box filled with scuds, and daphnia. The holes/slits were big enough to allow the daphnia thru, and big enough for scuds who try to get out, but is enough to hold them in unless actively squeeze themselves thru. I add enough moss or hornwort in to give them something to hold onto and munch on, but there isn't enough for All to hide and some will instinctively go out in search of more food and hiding, and will escape. They came out often enough to feed my 11 peas, for about 13 days. I actually ended up leaving the set up in there and the bigger adults that stayed in would reproduce and their babies would swim thru and continued to provide a steady feeding system. I only took it out to start a new culture as my peas had babies and I needed to make sure to reproduce and keep as many as possible for the extra amount of mouths to feed. I am terrible at explaining things, so I hope I was able to make some sense. And I hope this helps you with any fears of getting puffers in the future. You'll love these guys.

      Is it possible for corydoras to live in the same tank as pea puffer?

  • @lemonlizard1
    @lemonlizard1 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I've seen new info begin recommending pea puffers to live in groups rather than alone. For this even a 12 or 15 gallon will be fine as long as it's planted and there are line of sight blockers.
    I believe the general rule is 'start with a 10 gallon for 3, and add 3 gallons for every new puffer'

      Only got 3 atm its risky getting new peas bc you never know if they will go with the flow like my others do. If u didnt know, my dominant male puffer protects the other fish in the tank from the other peas tho nowadays he doesnt do it since the others have learned well. Just be careful getting these with other fish or their own kind.

      @lemonlizard1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@RaptorRockDrakeJesus yeah. Tbh though I've mostly heard good things from getting more puffers. It seems like it evens out the aggression more

    • @RaptorRockDrakeJesus
      @RaptorRockDrakeJesus 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @lemonlizard1 depends. The more females, the better ofc. I originally had 3 females and decided to get a male. I got a young little lad, and he was pretty much shy the whole time, but the females at least left him alone. When he got older, he became dominant and would chase the females away from the bumble bee gobies I had. All 3 females died of old age, so I decided to get more. I got a tiny male accidentally, and he immediately tried to kill it. (Note he's never attacked anyone ever). He won't go after females unless they attack the other fish, then he will attack. But yeah that's my pea puffer Burtrum for ya XD

    Ended up with two from a friend, who kept them in a communal tank with platys and panda corys. People say they're aggressive, but other than for bladder snails that came with live plants i've put in the tank, don't think i've ever seen them go after anything. Granted, I try to keep everything well fed and tons of hiding spots

    Imo pea puffers are great for nano tanks if you’re looking for something more unusual than a betta
    They’re small, cute, very unique and interactive, full of personality…
    Only downsides are they’re a bit tricky to feed and don’t get fit well in community tanks most of the time, but this is easy to manage if you don’t mind keeping a single fish in a 10 gallon and having to use frozen foods instead of flakes or pellets

  • @ardmend
    @ardmend ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a pair and they can live with my shrimp and nano fish fine, if it was just one on their own they will hunt for sport as they are very intelligent, they will spend most of their time hunting

    • @ardmend
      @ardmend ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Furthermore it is important to feed them live brine most of the time and some snails as I bet they will be bored, fight and eat tank mates on mostly frozen foods. They will nibble at plant based flakes when they need to. Again they like to hunt so snails and brine shrimp between rocks can keep them occupied. They will eat assassin snails but you won’t need assassins as these fish do the job

      I have two pea puffers that are pretty picky, and only like live food. I feed them brine shrimp that has been gut loaded with selcon, then rinsed with freshwater before being put in their tank. They’ve also gone for live blackworms as well. Just some ideas. Biggest thing to remember is they’re tiny little carnivores, and they tend to like stuff that moves.

      it depends on their personality and if they got a lot of space for themselves since they’re territorial and if the plant is heavily planted and kept in groups and in large groups and set ups of 40 gallons or more they tend to ignore most other fish kinda like tiger barbs do
