  • The newest direct drive smart trainer from Zwift could very well be a game-changer for the indoor cycling world. The Zwift Hub One features a single cog, the Zwift Click for gear changes and comes with a full year of Zwift subscription.
    Caitlin shares her personal experience using the Zwift Hub One trainer and compares the pros and cons compared to her past smart (and dumb) trainers.

    From a non-athlete using a hub one for about 2 months now I completely agree with your assessment. I tried Zwift on a dumb spin bike for a bit during covid, but it wasn't worth it, there wasn't anything to account for the actual force I used. I've since moved to a location that I have easy access to some long rail trails, so I've been riding my bike more. I got the hub at the end of the season to keep going and I love it. I'm already making more gains than I did out on the trails.

      Thanks for watching and sharing your experience! And welcome to the world of indoor cycling. It sounds like you’re going to make some great gains and really be stronger when you get back out on the trails next season. Ride on!

    Thanks, we also went for the Hub One and not the kickr core. The Core's reliability seems not very good and we didnt want to have trouble. Also the saving with calibration is a big plus.
    Yes the Hub One is quiet loud. That comes from that cheap plastic cog and the single cassette itsself. Its higher and wider than from shimano. So either swap the single cassette or buy a normal cassette and its silent.

      After experiencing the Hub One, it’s hard to imagine or justify the cost for a Kickr for sure. For us it’s “quiet”, compared to the Kickr Snap. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching. Enjoy your Hub One!

    I just purchased this last night. I live near Chicago and to say the weather sucks from Dec to April is an understatement . I’m hoping this will keep me at least in average cycling shape.
    As someone else commented, I did buy the mat to go under neath so I hope that will be enough to not annoy the neighbor below me. If it’s too bad I can double up.
    Out of curiosity how long do people actually ride indoors? I can be outside for 3 hours easily but indoors for 3 hours sounds awful haha

      Congrats! It’ll definitely be a great training tool during the brutal Chicago winter.
      How long? That’s widely variable. We can ride for hours on end, but we intentionally built a pain cave to keep us engaged and entertained for many hours. Our longest ride indoors was over 6 hours a few years ago training for Ironman. Now we’ll go around 2-3 hours. But yeah, sometimes it is mind numbing. Zwift has a lot of workouts and races to help keep things interesting, too.
      Good luck and enjoy!

    The push button gear changer adds another channel . The companion can handle my several Bluetooth items but using Apple TV has seemed to confuse my pairing at start up while sometimes being very simple.

    • @TeamSaundersTri

      We’ve had issues as well with AppleTV in the past, but now everything goes through the Zwift Hub One, so essentially it’s only “one” source for AppleTV. Works like a charm with power, cadence, HR, click. We still love it.

      Apple TV has limits with regards to BT channels, workaround ,, Can be done via the hub one as pointed out by @TeamSaundersTri or through the companion app on your phone

    Thanks for the review. How do you guys ride together? My wife received this for Christmas and we both love it so much we ordered another one for me. We want to do rides and races together. I was wondering if there is a way to run a split screen off one screen. It would be cool to ride side by side and share the same screen.

    • @TeamSaundersTri

      How awesome! From all the years we’ve been able to ride at the same time it’s been amazing. We currently have our own dedicated screens and each run an Apple TV as our Zwift source. But if you do want to share a single screen look into getting a 2x1 HDMI Multiviewer box (assuming you use Apple TV). You can run 2 inputs in and display them both on one screen with a few different format options. Good luck with whatever you decide and let us know how it turns out!

    Can you use without a subscription to Zwift? In the summer I would use it less, since I would be outside. Might cancel in summer. But use it very infrequently, wondered if that’s possible. Just record the stats with my iwatch.

    • @TeamSaundersTri

      They do have a trial period to start with, but you have to have a subscription to use it after the trial. However, they do have an option where you can pause your subscription for up to 8 weeks.

    I had a suito elite and it died. Got the zwift in the summer right before they bumped the price by 100 bucks. Got the hub one with click shift and it's great. Accurate review imo. I can't attest to the durability....the suito only lasted 2 years or 2 1/2 winters. I hope this one lasts longer.

    • @colinlord

      I like to think it will prove to be more durable because of the lack of physical shifting. Less moving pieces means less things to break!

    • @TeamSaundersTri

      For sure, durability is a concern of ours. We ride almost exclusively indoors, so this will be put through the paces with a lot of hours in the coming months…and hopefully years!

    I purchased the Zwift Hub with cassette about a year ago. Just recently converted it to a One with the one cog and Click. I have no complaints it is a great indoor set-up. What would like to see is a software update to make the sound of the derailleur shifting. Just to make it more realistic.

    • @TeamSaundersTri

      That’s a clever idea! Glad it’s working well for you. Ride on 👍🏾

      @3rwparks3 - looks like the shifting sound has been added in the latest update - 1.62! It doesn’t quite sound the same as an actual derailleur shift though. They tried?

    Thanks for the review. How do you think this would hold up in a second floor apartment? I want to be a courteous neighbor 😉

    • @TeamSaundersTri

      Appreciate you watching and commenting! It’s probably a good choice for a second floor apartment. Direct drive trainers are a better option in general. It might be worth investing in some puzzle piece workout mats to absorb any sound or vibration - you can find those cheap online or at a home improvement store. And cheers to you for being a good neighbor! Let us know what route you take and how it works out for you.

    shifting up is not instantaneous. down is fine . u get wot u pay for

      We haven’t experienced that in particular, but definitely this isn’t a high end trainer. However it’s a great option for those who might have budget limitations or want to get started with indoor cycling. Thanks for sharing your experience!

    Can you next do a biased review?? Unbiased review seems to be common around here. I'd like to have something different.
