  • OCTOPUS STEW
    2 large octopuses and 1 small one
    1 large onion, chopped
    2 tbsp garlic,chopped
    1 tbsp bacon fat
    2 tbsp olive oil
    ½ cup Portuguese malagueta
    1 ½ cup burgundy wine
    2 ½ cup water
    Salt and pepper to taste
    10 lbs potatoes,cubed
    ½ cup fresh parsley
    Cut octopuses into small pieces. In a large pot, add bacon fat, olive oil, onion and garlic until translucent. Add pepper, wine and octopus cover and let cook until fork tender. Add potatoes and parsley. Check for salt and let simmer until everything is cooked.

    Thank you so much for these recipes. 30 years ago I was dating a young man from the Azores, his mother's cooking was divine. I am always looking for the dishes she prepared but most videos are in Portuguese. Today I found you, and am delighted beyond belief.

    I make octopus every few months. My husband loves it. Its expensive here in 🇨🇦. When you take the camera to show us we see nada lolol maybe your using a different camera? Love your videos. Sometimes I do it in the oven.

    One of my husband and son in laws favorite dish......make it on Good Friday and New Years Day for lunch 🍴 it’s very expensive here in Bermuda.

    I do it the same but I always take a little bone from the had That’s the way I was taught thank you for the recipe I will miss make it in the oven I will make it in them pot next time thank you love your recipes a big hug from Canada

    It's pretty much where I make it too but I do a quick boiling before I cut the octopus was much easier and also clean the bone and the eyes I do quite often but thank you for your recipe

    I love polvo guizado but i don't always find it where i live, i do it pretty much the same way you do it, the only thing i add is black pepper and a bit of paprika, thank you for the video

      Luzente sometimes I have to cut the video I can’t show both cameras. I pick a piece of one and a piece of another. I am trying to get better managing these cameras. Thank you for watching.

    Made this today Angela. After reviewing you recipe it all came back to me. I'm 75 and now have to refresh the old memory if I haven't made in a while. My octopus was so tuff. I had to simmer for over 2 hours no kiddin. I also had to add some serafood stock and shnrimp buillon cubes , and a teaspoon of better than buillon seafood flavor to get a decent flavor. In the end it was delicious . The octopus my husband bought was not from Portugal for sure. tough and very little seafood flavor but we pulled it off with the expertise of a chemist! Do you have a email Angela ?

    What I do is put the parsley in a glass with water and cover it with a plastic bag, it lasts almost a month😊

    Hi Angela, I love all of your videos! FYI: the plural word for octopus is "octopi" not "octopuses".... I thought you might like to know or maybe not! Hehehehe!

    Would love to make this, but you give no measurements of ingredients, also do not know where i can get portuguese pepper sauce, you give no substitutions.. Please give detailed ingredients and measurements!

      There is a full recipe under description with measurements. You can add any other pepper sauce you like. I use what I have.

    What you call bellybutton is really the mouth of the octopus. Also in the cap of the head is two spines to be removed. Just thought you'd like to know.

    Your so funny your using the wrong camera to show us inside the pan and we can’t see anything lol
