  • When Los Angeles-based singer and content creator Baby Storme dropped in on a Citibank in Hollywood, all she wanted to do was deposit a $30k check she got from her father to help her with her rent. But things took a turn when she found herself surrounded by police over what the bank tellers said was an unverified check. With this incident happening just weeks after a similar incident with ‘Black Panther’ director Ryan Coogler, many people are wondering: is there a safe place to bank while Black? The Shade Room Investigates…

      It was closing time in Los Angeles, so banks in the other time zones were closed. I wonder if by "confiscating" the check, was it actually a deposit hold? I've had to wait five days for $50K to clear but my credit union fronted me 10%.

    • @Metqa
      @Metqa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chriscooks5437 That is not how a hold works. They take the check, give you a receipt for the deposit transaction and tell you the funds will be available in x number of days. They complete the transaction on their end and then wait for the transaction to be completed from the providing bank.
      They cannot take your check and refuse to use it as part of a transaction Unless they are claiming fraud or theft or something else, but even so, they had all the avaialble information to make the transaction and check for fraud down the line. No reason at all to confiscate the check without completing the transaction. I've had money deposited and it took 3 days to be available for use, but I could look at the transaction history and it showed my deposit, and the notation "PENDING". My Bank balance was still the lower amount before the deposit and once it cleared my balance reflected the full amount.
      Bankers are not cops or judges or lawyers, they ought not be doing this crap. they have a fraud department that handles it. If you don't have an account with the bank they ask for ID and/Or fingerprint for the records just for this reason. She had an account with this bank, there was no reason to treat her like that as she was already an established customer.

      Something I've noticed about Sephora is that they'll always have limited (to zero) inventory for makeup that's for ebony skin tones. I noticed this pattern with Lancome foundation, Fenty concealer, and Anastasia brow definer. I'd ask them when they plan to restock, they'd say "next week", I come back and it's not there - the cycle repeats three times till I give up. I don't think this is a coincidence. And I get followed as well..by the black security guard. Go figure.

They said at first that they didn't have the money at this location and that I would have to wait until the next day. I told them that that was not acceptable and that I needed it today to buy equipment for my business. Then they called the police on me and my business partner and when we talked to the police on what happened they told the bank wheres the problem? The police said given them their monies because we don't see they did anything wrong. 25 minutes later we had our $63k. Then my business partner got the bank manager and closed out his account of 5yrs and $240k. The bank manager tried hard to make amends but no deal said my business partner. We left with all our monies and got a credit union instead to save our monies. Lesson learned that any and All banks are Corrupt!⚠️😑👍
