    I was hoping to learn how to replace a faulty cell, but instead we got a half-hearted video on how to completely fuck it up. Well, we all know how to do that.

      Hi! Like the title says, this video is about a teardown not a repair. Some of the components were destroyed but some other components can, and will, be used in other projects. Maybe, someone, with the same faulty battery, after seeing this video could take a different approach and effectively repair the battery. Thank you for your comment!

    How to get the front plate with BMS separated from the front of the pack? I have a different model but it looks similar. Shell removed but front plate is not budging from the pack. Looks like it might have some epoxy holding it in place on my model and I don’t want to tear the plastic up to access the board.

    Thanks for the teardown. I own a defective AR3000 with fine cells. I disconnected the BMS in order to reset it but now there is no life on it. I think it must be initialized. On other batteries, the scope (between green and yellow communication wires) shows signal like a 9600bps RS232 communication between the tool and battery. Do someone knows a place to grab informations on the communication protocol or the Stihl BMS reset ? Thanks

      I too am a proud owner of an AR3000.
      I got it for cheap at an auction because it wouldn't charge anymore.
      I opened it up and charged the cells directly so now it shows half full when I press the button on the battery pack.
      I don't have the connection cable or a charger for it. The connector is called a speakon connector, usually used for speakers.
      There are 4 cables going to the connector, red and black for power but also a green and yellow wire for some kind of communication. I'd love to use this battery for some projects but I can't get it to work sadly.

    Writing in August of 2023. Sympathize with comment below BUT, as there are so few Stihl repair videos, I did find it somewhat helpful to see where they screws and such are. I left my battery in the back of the Gator, it was under an awning but still got wet in the torrential rain we had here is CT. The battery tests at 36 volts. When I press the indicator, it turns green with two bars. I can use it for a moment or two and then the battery stops at one bar. The charger tries to charge it for a moment and then stops. I took the battery apart and I can see a wee bit of water stain on one cell. Hoping to fix it.

      Hello, do you find a solution to adapt any 36V battery on Stihl garden tool ? Thank you

    • @ssd8339
      @ssd8339 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2 central pins (green and yellow wires) are TX and RX pins for communication between tool and battery. That's why you cannot just feed 36v from external power source (tool won't start).

      @@ssd8339 It would be nice that we could make a bridge in the toold, then make a backpack diy battery with 18650cells, 10s5p 36v 15Ah for example, with a Battery Management System like those used in ebike batteries. I do not find information about it

    I have a dead stihl battery can i change the cells easy ? or is that too much work ?

    • @LegendaryUrbanHackerZ
      @LegendaryUrbanHackerZ  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think it will not be easy to replace a dead cell in the Stihl AP 80 Lithium-Ion Battery. To know who is the dead cell you have to dismantle the battery. After identifying the battery you have to remove it and solder a new one in that their place. Possible but difficult. I would suggest save the good cells for other projects. Thank you for your question!

    This was the 1st time I saw on PCB with melted plastic on top, probably would heat sink function.
    And YES, the chemical batteries are dangerous, thanks for the video,
    continua curioso :)

    • @LegendaryUrbanHackerZ
      @LegendaryUrbanHackerZ  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +G7Dropes The melted plastic protects the PCB from the surrounding environment. This battery was removed from professional gardening equipment... (subject to water, mechanical shock,...). This method it is called "Potting" . In this method one liquid potting compound is poured in the case/PCB covering all and completely encasing it. In the other hand, the most usual method is "Conformal Coating". You can search on Google for more info!

      Interesting ... by chance did not know the technical name of "Conformal Coating", I have seen some devices with a black epoxy, but not transparent; It is pretty transparent but to repair no longer be.

    Hello,
    thank you for the video.
    Do you know if it is possible to use a 36V E bike lithium battery to power a stihl equipement, making a diy adaptator to link the + and - of my e bike battery to a stihl equipment as fsa90 or fsa 130 ?

    • @beavis1416

    • @ssd8339
      @ssd8339 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No because stihl use a communication protocol between battery and tool... So you won't be able to run the tool by only feeding it with 36v from external battery or external power supply.
      It seems to be a simple RS232 communication but didn't find any work on this yet.

      If you have Voltage on the battery above 36V the problem is on BMS board. I have now the same problem, I do regeneration on battery because voltage per cell is approx. 2V now is 38,5V wait for the charger to finish it but the charger flashing 10 red lights. And I can't find solution (reset BMS or change board chip or what...)

    Had recenctly autopsied an AP300 battery (four flashing red leds). Found all battery cells between 3.8 to 4.0 volts, no physical signs of damage however, I had set up a workbench to test (live) run Battery Management microcontroler using electrolytic capcitors as battery cells, still all four lights flashed even the voltages across each capacitor are equal divided.
    The micro controller board is coated in silicon resin which does not dissolve or melt to expose Sthil battery secrets with in this block.
    I wonder using 9234 chip is also programmed a countdown timer ? and such secrecy with holding technical information even the Chinese are unable to even copy this product.??
    Microsoft has once been taken to international court for product and price fixing the windows system back in early 2000.
    Makes me wonder about recycling effort attempts in manufacturing consumer products.
    If i had a choice , i would not deal with such outfits like sthil
