  • The Rolling Stones:
    In this video, we're rolling back the years to 1971 with 'Can't You Hear Me Knocking' by The Rolling Stones.
    "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" is one of The Rolling Stones' iconic tracks, hailing from their 1971 album, "Sticky Fingers." The song is recognized for its legendary riff and extended jam, which takes up more than half of the track's seven-minute runtime.
    'Can't You Hear Me Knocking,' a legendary track created in a moment of unplanned musical brilliance. It's a testament to The Rolling Stones' unique and improvisational approach to music

    I'm 67 and live in a college town. When my well seasoned buddies and I head into town to shoot pool and play for beers with the kids I always put $10-20 in the 'juke box' to play some great classic rock. The extended version of this song is always top of the list. The kids love the classic rock we play. Stones, Zep, Who, Boz Scaggs, Allman Bros, Tedeschi Trucks, etc etc etc. Good times for old guys.

    This left out so much I'm really surprised.... what about the Sax solo by Bobby Keys? The connector riff after the first section that leads into the jam? My band plays this iconic song and we do it justice... every nuance... every double stop and fill. This song is a journey into the center of the Rolling Stones loose groove that has a feel of going off the rails but never does. THAT is the magic.

      I'm from Detroit (blow the reveille)!
      The songwriting dynamic wasn't really much different than before.
      Keef used to come up with a riff & a 'tag-line'. Sometimes he would have a complete verse or chorus before he presented it to Jagger.
      *'Brown Sugar':* MJ's 'idea-for-a-song'.
      But, it didn't become the great song we all know 'n love until KR 'worked' the arrangement. (like 'Sympathy....')
      *'Wild Horses':*
      KR: Riff/Tag/MelodyVerse.
      MJ changed some lyrics & helped greatly with the arrangement.
      *'Bitch':* KR: Riff/Tag/Melody/Chorus.
      MJ wrote the verse lyrics & helped with the arrangement.
      *'Sister Morphine':* KR takes an _'interesting-little-ditty'_ & re-arranges it into another iconic Stones song.
      (much like what he did for 'Sympathy..')
      That, plus the 1st half of the song discussed here ('CYHMK'); Is a pretty great achievement!
      After years of it being just Keith (& Mick)
      (& guests in the backdoor); They started to branch out & rely on others a bit.
      (just like pre-'68)
      But, rumours of Keef's demise are not accurate.
      He even owns a piece of 'Moonlight Mile'. (go figure)
      I said _"arrangement"_ a lot, knowing full well Jimmy Miller was a big part as well.
      Peace. Stay Healthy!
      - Dave B.

    In the 90s I was eating at a little boutique restaurant in New York, and I heard the part of this song with the sax solo, that whole jazzy break down,, it sounded a little different than the studio album so I thought it was a live recording of this song but after the break down it started to sound different. I asked the bartender what we were listening to? He said it was.An old jazz album.that part is completely lifted from another song

  • @jonathanmills5747
    @jonathanmills5747 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I have always thought Keef felt a bit of a "threat" from Mick Taylor's abilities but Mick T just played it for the love of music and didn't have an ego agenda, he wasn't bothered if he was lead, rhythm or a side man.
    For him to walk away from the Stones wasn't due to acrimony in the Band.
    He was his own man.
    It's a shame for fans of the Stones because he could have helped them achieve greater things but we will never know.
    Paradoxically he was an amazing replacement for Brian Jones and took the band to an era so well defined because of his skills.
    Ronnie Wood is a fantastic guitarist too but the fluidity Mick added is one of those things that comes along uniquely and just worked.
    I still love the Stones but they've never had the "fit" and style after Mick Taylor's departing.

    • @bloppysloppy4057
      @bloppysloppy4057 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ron Wood has a great stage presence but Mick Taylor's playing added so much feeling and soul to their sound. They've never been quite the same since Taylor's departure. I think he left because he developed a bad coke habit and had to have his nasal septum replaced. The craziness within the stones camp was probably more than he could handle.

    • @jonathanmills5747
      @jonathanmills5747 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bloppysloppy4057 I've been close to that nasal problem in the past but I don't even know how to play a chord.
      So I guess a cheeky line or two doesn't mean it enhances or influences musical ability.
      You've either got it or you haven't.
      It was fun at the time but in the end, I too personally had to grow up.

    I've always loved this song. But.....the inner jamming sounds remarkably like Stevie Windwood's "Traffic" music. I mean you could lift it right off of one of their albums. So this begs the question; who copied whom? Don't assume that just because it's "The Stones" they're incapable of lifting someone else's music style. My vote is for Stevie Windwood on this.....
