The cowbell intro was originally just Jimmy Millar counting them in but it sounded so good they kept it in.

Iconic riff for sure! Whenever I hear the fantastic ‘Country Honk’ I get instantly transported to a dimly lit bar in Jackson, wistfully gazing out of a slightly grubby window at the sun drenched street whilst ‘tippling a jar’!

No mention of the most important fact (by far!) behind this song--It was Keith's first venture into Open G tuning. Without his move to open tunings (D, E then G), nobody under 70 would remember who the Rolling Stones were.

You left off the most significant thing about this recording, it was Mick Taylor's debut as a Rolling Stones. Brian Jones didn't play on this or Country Honk

I'm also pretty sure the riff at the start is also Taylor's (immed prior to the vocals). His first contribution to the band. Brian Jones had nothing to do with it.

@@garybalranald6323 Taylor has said in interviews that he doesn't come in until right before the chorus. So it's Keith playing the intro.

Gram Parsons is completely ignored, and Brian added his genius to the final. Version. At least he gets mentioned.

You are so right! Let’s not forget Brian either for starting the band and more…

Brian had nothing to do with this song - didn’t play on either country honk or honky-tonk women. Jimmy Miller came up with the cowbell and Charlie’s drum pattern. Why would Gram Parsons get credit because he was Keith’s friend and taught him some country? He also had nothing to do with writing this song.

In the last 20 mins, I have read Brian was involved in this, as well as writing Midnight Rambler. What next? He wrote the Magna Carta?

How much of the riff is from Ry Cooder? Probably some, perhaps most of it.

They just shows the wrong cowbell part - again! nobody plays it like the original recording..
