  • How to dim and set the S2 PRO LED controller for Twinstar lights (any model) and any Other LED Lights with 5.5 DC connection.
    Depending on your lighting system the intensity can vary, but using Twinstar as a reference you can follow this schedule:
    A) Low demanding planted aquarium:
    12h 1-3% (or zero case you don't a moonlight)
    13h 30%
    16h 50%
    18h 60-75%
    20h 50%
    22h 30%
    23h 1-3% (moonlight)
    B) High demanding planted aquarium:
    12h 1-3% (or zero case you don't want a moonlight)
    13h 50%
    16h 75-90%
    18h 90-100%
    20h 75-90%
    22h 50%
    23h 1-3% (moonlight)
    C) SUPER High demanding planted aquarium:
    12h 1-3% (or zero case you don't want moonlight)
    13h 50%
    15h 80-90%
    18h 100%
    21h 80-90%
    22h 50%
    23h 1-3% (moonlight)

    I know this is an older post but I can have multiple photo periods with this controller right? I was thinking of 2 x 4 hour photo periods. I think if I set the start of each photo period at zero then it should be ok right?

    Hi Filipe, I own a few S2-PRO dimmers and I do appreciate you laying out some nice timer schedules for this device. My schedule is as follows for my main tank 96L with a Twinstar 600S, night time at 0% as I believe it is a waste of energy keeping light at 3% at night:
    NO-1 13:30 L000
    NO-2 14:30 L055
    NO-3 15:00 L080
    NO-4 18:30 L080
    NO-5 21:30 L055
    NO-6 22:30 L005
    NO-7 23:00 L000
    I add CO² and dose using the EI method, currently at 50% of the manufacturer's recommended dosage for High Lighting.
    My plants really do thrive in these conditions, but the growth is under control. Stem plants need trimming only every 4-6 weeks. My plants are: Hemanthius Callitrichoides "Cuba", Ludwigia sp. "Super Red", Ludwigia Palustris, Ludwigia Atlantis, Nymphaea Stellata, Cryptocoryne Wendtii "Green", Hygrophila Difformis, Hygrophila sp. "Araguaia", Staurogyne Repens, Helanthium Tenellum and Microsorum Pteropus "Thor's Hammer".
    My livestock consists of 10 Hyphessobrycon Megalopterus and 6 Hyphessobrycon Cyanotaenia. Algae are under control although I have no active algae control besides a few ramshorn snails that came with the plants I guess. There is some green algae on my driftwood which I do not mind and I have to fight cyanobacteria between the substrate and glass from time to time as there is direct sunlight hitting my tank early in the morning in spring and summer.
    Overall I'm pretty happy with how things are developing.
    I plan on trying your dosing schema in the linked video below in the future to try and get the reds out even more. th-cam.com/video/wtH44vCjW2Y/w-d-xo.html

      Of it works for you don't change it.
      I just advised 1-3% moonlight because depends of the power supply. I have one unit that 1% is off, 2% off and I only see some signs of light at 3%... But it's the only one with that issue. Maybe the power supply is close to die.
      The settings you use are quite similar to those I have mentioned to high demanding planted aquarium, maybe less intensity, but it's something that you can always change to improve case you need.

    You guys may be wondering why we don't notice so well the changes on light intensity, but the camera always tried to compensate the exposure when it increased or decreased...
    Please notice that depending on your lighting system the intensity can vary, but using TWINSTAR as a reference, you can follow different schedules on video's description.
    ADVISED OPTIONS FOR:
    A) Low demanding planted aquarium
    B) High demanding planted aquarium
    C) SUPER High demanding planted aquarium

      @@behdaddivsalar5636 plants are doing photosynthesis, otherwise they wouldn't be growing. I think you are talking about pearling, but that is not that important. I have tanks with extreme light and no pearling at all, plants are healthy, growing well... No algae at all.
      At the moment the light switch on, they will start to do photosynthesis, same as in nature.

    I have put one on my betta tank his light cannot be dimmed which causes issues for me and if it turns off completely you need to manually turn it back on again. which is a nuisance so having this is a huge help as it turns the light right down but not turn it off so it can just ramp back up again :)

    So glad I found your video, thank you for the review! I bought a Twinstar 2 Light a few months ago and its way to bright, so I have had an algae problem for quite some time now :/ . But then I found your review. I was thrilled because the manual dimmers for this model are all out of stock where I live, and with the timer build in and gradual dimming its even better!. Now I hope I can find a level of light-intensity that suits my tank. And I wont be flashed with the force of a thousand suns anymore when the lights turn on every morning in my bedroom lol.

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Dimming the light is great because we don't need the full intensity during the full photoperiod.
      Different intensities as we have in nature will promote horizontal and vertical growth, also minimize the risk of getting algae.

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question... I never tried to reset it! I usually change the settings and when I don't want to use the last timer set, I rollback to when it's blinking and leave it in that position, it stays off.
      But that is really weird, I have 3 of those and since I set them, I never had any issue with settings or even power outage. They still working like charm and some have more than 4 years.
      Be sure you don't have the light connected to other timer, the light must be connected directly to the power supply.

    I use an Aqua One Focus 25 tank, for my male betta fish, I tried a few other light timmer/dimmers like this device, one made a buzzing noise come from the LEDS when dimmed and the dimming function wasn't great, the other wouldn't hold the time correctly (went too fast) and again the dimming selection with my light wasn't good. I bought this one as a last resort and it works perfectly, does everything correctly. So if you're looking for the best one out there this is it, even though the others look more advanced in appearance this is the one you want.

      Just be sure the first and last timer are set to zero or max 10% in case you want to use moonlight.
      Maybe you set something wrong in the last timer and light just turned on during the night. However there is another button close to where you set the timers that if you press it, it switches the light to the level you want, then you pressed back and rolls back to the scheduled timer.

    Hi Filipe, I currently own an Aquascaper 600 with a Twinstar 600s lighting unit that I'm very happy with. I am hoping to upgrade to an Aquascaper 1200 sometime this year and have been looking at lighting options. Although I know the ADA RGB are possibly the best out there, they are a lot of money. I am currently considering 2 x Twinstar 1200S units for the AQ1200. What are your thoughts on this? Part of the reason why I am leaning towards the Twinstar's is I'm also not a big lover of the pendant style lighting units and like how the Twinstar unit keeps things to a minimal. Regards Carl.

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Carl, I would advise you to buy one, just one and evaluate. I have some tanks at Aquaflora with just one 1200SA and they are definitely powerful. Careful with that 😉 too much power will be difficult to handle. I just use two on my 90x60x45h because the tank has 60x45h cm and one would cause too much shadow in the front.
      If you want those with side supports on the glass, go for the 1200SA, the adjustable one because you can increase or decrease the height of it not only in the bracket as also if you use the longer side upwards.

    Automática e gradualmente ele vai chegar de 50% para 30% no intervalo de tempo determinado?
    Não vai simplesmente trocar de de 50% para 30% às 22:00h.
    Exemplo, se eu acertar o relógio conforme abaixo, vai de 1% a 100% a 1% ... aumentar e baixar gradualmente?

      Se queres um período de 60% entre as 17:30-19:30, deves colocar 60% às 17:30 e 60% às 19:30. Depois defines a rampa descendente, por exemplo 20:00 a 50% ou 40% para média luz. A intensidade definida em cada hora corresponde à intensidade desejada. Não querendo moonlight, a última hora definida deve ter valor zero; se for com moonlight entre 5-10%. This dimmer has a built-in battery. If you take it off and plug it again, the settings will stay there. For the video I had to reset the timer...
      If you can control Chihiros? If it has a 5.5 DC connection, yes you can.

      It does not work with Chihiros WRGB (1 or 2), you need the very low quality Controller 4 for that...

      A person just commented above that has Chihiros Series A and WRGB and this controller works pretty well.

    • @tougemaster
      @tougemaster 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FAAOAquascaping It does not work well with Chihiros WRGB, it dims the leds but at different rates for each of the four channels, so the color and spectrum of the light change from stock and there's no way to control it - I unfortunately own a chihiros WRGB90 and tried a couple of these controllers before and all did the same thing. I guess you could say it works if you don't care about consistency....
      It does work with A series without any issues but keep in mind there's a power limit, around 100W I think, so something like a WRGB120 will definitely cause damage to the controller or even the light itself.

      Nuno I'm just replying regarding what the other person mentioned above... I don't have Chihiros and I never used them.
      Unless he misunderstood or don't care about consistency as you mentioned.

    Hello Filipe,
    Interesting video but I notice a problem while my programming is as follows:
    9h - 3%
    10h - 25%
    13h - 100%
    17h - 100%
    19h - 70%
    21h - 50%
    22h - 25%
    23h - 0%
    I was able to program these cycles without any problem and everything went well until 11pm when the tank went out.
    Around 3am, I woke up to drink and oh surprise, the tank is a little light, very little, a few percent but it is not supposed to be.
    I thought that this is due to the 23h-9h range where the box manages a progressive lighting from 0 to 3% and there is therefore a little lighting.
    thanks for your help

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's because from 23h till 9h, lightning system will slowly start to increase the intensity. Or you leave the 9h in zero, or you need to keep the 23h in 3%. For the lights be completely off during night you must have the first and last timer set to zero.

    • @jcminarro7601
      @jcminarro7601 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FAAOAquascaping Thank you for your answer,
      it is not specified anywhere but as I thought, you need two points at zero, the first corresponding to the evening switch-off and the second to the morning switch-on.

    Thanks Filipe for a nice informative video! I will put this on my wish list for my kids bedroom tank! I have a chihiros rgb with a commander 1 Bluetooth controller hooked up to my 29 gallon for a ramp up and down time! My kids fluval flex just has a mechanical timer and I’m not a fan of that abrupt light on that stress the fish and shrimp!

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If fluvial flex has a 5.5 DC connector and power supply till 100w, will work just great! And usually kids like to see the moonlight over the night, they will appreciate it for sure.
