My uncle was a starfighter pilot, and boy oh boy did he love the thing. He weirdly enough especially loved how difficult it was to land it, and thought that the eurofighter was too easy of a plane to fly when they introduced it in 2004 lmao
must be a pretty crazy feeling to switch between those 2 jets, even tho it would have been a heavily modified version of the starfighter at the end of the day its still a 50 year old aircraft at the time :)

High stall speed, not much maneuverability and use of it as ground attacker (despite it being VERY VERY bad plane for this role). With all extra weight taking off was difficult as well. Its like an P-39 situation, where it is "bad" for americans, but actually good in soviet hands.
The F104A was my first supersonic aircraft in War Thunder. Back when it was first introduced it was so potent after some practice. I was able to pull 5 kills out of a match sometimes! Still one of the most rewarding aircraft to master.

After some time players became more good and bad rwr of ASA was problem. Now I don’t use ASA version because direction of RWR is fundamental. Some time I like use S or A version. I’ve never used G but I think is better than S because lower br, I can do without aim-7. I hope they will make the version of F-104A with the engine of S version. 🤩 (104A is the lighter weight) It was adopted by only one group of USA Air Force.

My grandpa is Starfighter pilot in Taiwan part of the unique requirements of Taiwan interceptor docterine was to 5 mins from runway to stratosphere, starfighters was the only plane ever to achieve that, since Hsichu Air force base was so close to main land china, pilot simply do not have the airspace or the time to climb, they have to climb to 40000 ft before entering China mainland to counter the chinese made Mig-19 or Mig-21

Personally in Arcade AB where I spend more time - 7.7 for the 86A-5 and F-25 is actually pretty well on the money, the sudden 1.3 BR increase to the F-2 to 9.0 because it has some pretty bad cannons with a low ammo count but is otherwise an F-25 in every other way, yeah, no, that thing is so over BR it's not even funny, 8.3 may even be a bit much. Though at higher tiers - yeah, I have a lot of questions why some of the American aircraft are as high of a BR as they are, though, I have more questions why a lot of the Russian planes across all ranks are the rather low BR's they are.

One of my favorite MST3k episodes is The Starfighters which, if you don't know, follows the lives of a few pilots getting used to the roll-in of the new F-104's. Hell there's even two long scenes that are about the aircraft outright not working as intended. Funny episode of MST3k, actually insightful movie attached to it-- helping me gain a perspective that makes the Starfighter a goal of mine for sure, in the Japan tech tree.
I love playing the german F104, really good boom and zoom plane, cannot break with g or turns, real fast, keep momentum going vertical, have ok missiles/bombs, real good canon, and counters, as it's br you are usually the only one that combine all that at that speed, A10 are usually easy prey since you are out before they can engage you back, you just never ever want to dog fight.

Yeah - the American ones at least (only ones I've played so far) either need a drop in BR in arcade at least, or, given that they were still operational when the AIM-9E was entering service, and even some getting new engines, a slightly better Sidewinder. I'd argue more for the BR drop for similar reasons to the F-105 in that mode needing one - lack of countermeasures really hinders these planes at 9.7 and 10.7 respectively - especially seeing as they see crazy advanced heat seekers and lack flares, and if you trade ordnance for chaff, the 105 only has some protection against radar guided missiles.

Italy = F104 Generation, it's lovely to play and it's amazing to climb in 60 second from FL0 to FL360 and to be supersonic
