  • In this video, Dr. Kamal Singh speaks about blood sugar control by insulin and glucagon hormones.

Insulin and glucagon are like traffic controllers for our blood sugar levels. When we eat, our body turns food into glucose, a kind of energy. Insulin helps this glucose get inside our cells to give us energy. If there's too much glucose, insulin tells the body to store it for later.
On the other hand, when we haven't eaten for a while and our blood sugar drops, a hormone called glucagon kicks in. Glucagon tells the body to release stored glucose from the liver, giving us the energy we need.
Think of insulin as a gatekeeper letting glucose into cells, and glucagon as a messenger telling the body to release stored energy when needed. This helps keep our blood sugar levels balanced. Glucagon tells your body to take out the stored snacks (which we call glycogen) and turn them back into glucose. This is glycogenolysis - breaking down stored snacks to get energy when you need it.
Now, sometimes your body needs to make new glucose even if you haven't eaten anything with it. That's where another process called gluconeogenesis comes in. It's like your body's chef creating a new batch of snacks from different ingredients.
For some people, like those with diabetes, their bodies might need a bit of help. They might take insulin to keep their blood sugar from getting too high. In emergencies when blood sugar gets dangerously low, they might use glucagon to bring it back up to a safe level.
So, insulin and glucagon work together to make sure our body has the right amount of energy at all times, like a well-orchestrated team keeping everything in balance.

Thank you for reaching out and being an active viewer of my channel. I appreciate your curiosity and engagement in the medical topics we discuss.
To address your question, restless legs syndrome (RLS) is not directly caused by valvular heart disease. Valvular heart disease and RLS are distinct conditions with different underlying mechanisms. However, it's important to note that RLS has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease in some studies. Still, further research is needed to fully understand and confirm this relationship.
I'm glad you're interested in these topics, and if you have any more questions or if there's a specific medical topic you'd like me to cover in future videos, feel free to let me know. Thank you for your continued support, and I'm here to provide reliable medical information for you.
