I feel like no one told the stylists the step and repeat was black. SO many black outfits on a black background. Also I was personally burnt out by the naked dresses. It didn't feel like there was a lot of variety in styles overall
Yeah considering it's the vmas there's same shit over and over... I haven't seen it in years but I remember back in 2000s it was much more diverse, fun and sometimes outlandish
Why do sooooooo many women have dresses that are perfectly fitted to their body but not their chest.....It kinda ruins the look for me 😢

@@Aushirye Corsets are even more important to fit properly than a regular dress. A well fitting corset should feel like a hug, an ill fitting corset (and bra btw) will poke you in places it has not business being, a badly fitting corset is often tightened in ways that will damage the corset, many modern corsets are made very straight, so they have to curve going from the bust, to the waist, to the hips. This means that people will often tighten them too much, which is not a huge deal for a short time, but not amazing for a long time, and it will also damage the corset. Especially if the tightening leads to the closure curving. The edges of the corset when lacing are supposed to look like this: | | it may also look like this: \ / or / \. But it should never look like this: ) ( or ( ).
Badly fitting cups and corsets are very common, and it makes me so sad to think that people are very uncomfortable, or even in pain, because they are wearing things that are the wrong size or shape for them, when they could be wearing amazingly comfortable underwear/clothing that fits well. Perfect fit is hard to achieve without a tailor to adjust your clothing for you, but well fitting is definitely possible.
If I'm honest all these dresses look cheap and tacky and likely cost ridiculous amounts of money...to look ridiculous, NO originality at all . This lady could outshine all of these designers
Not just on the red carpet the amount of weddings I go to an deee I'll fitting boobs is awful! When I got mine altered I was told they'd have to basically take the dress apart to fit the boobs the best they could which was too time consuming (I didn't have the time to adjust) and of course more expensive. So I took it as best as I could do.
Shakira's dress is not made in a stretchy fabric, it is a metal mesh created by Gianni Versace called Oroton

I feel like most Kpop groups play it safe the first few US award shows they go too, but as time goes on they show more of there personality. As a kpop fan Stray kids have had more colorful looks, but definitely played it safe this go around. No TXT though 😕
Not sure if she was able to get everyone in the video. Probably too many things to cover. She may of also forgot. She said it’s was her first time seeing skz so it’s safe to assume she doesn’t know txt either. But it would have been cool to hear what she had to say about them.
Also Skz was dressed from several different brands which is hard to really match with each other
Shakira's dress is made from oroton! It's like a micro chainmail! Its not stretchy at all, and i think it's very heavy so it's got a particular drape
I feel like if the dress doesn't fit the bust appropriately it needs to be in the bottom category, no matter how much effort it took. I understand its the VMA's and that the "youths" dont mind dressing more sexy, but if a woman's boobs are about to pop out the top it don't fit
We need justice for the big boobs. Its shameful how once you pass a certain cup size designers seem to just give up on fitting the bust.
Yeah, poor Bebe's breasts were not in the cups at all. She was wearing what the abrathatfits community calls a boobhat. It's sort of sitting in front of the breast, not encasing it, and in the case of a bra not supporting it, which in a dress often isn't necessary, but in a dress like this, that is worn in lieu of a bra it definitely needs to do the support a bra would otherwise do.
I see this a lot, not just with celebrities, but so many people wear the wrong cup size, and it makes me so sad, like, they could all be wearing comfortable, well fitting bras or tops/dresses, that support their boobs instead of the badly fitting ones that poke in places they wouldn't even be if they fit well. 🙁
@@AnnekeOosterinkI feel like Bebe is "dressing down" more these days bc of all the heat she's gotten over her weight gain & it's bc of a med condition millions of women have, so it's absurd! She still has a gorgeous hourglass figure & that dress should have been tailored to show the pop of her hips while also having corset cups that fit.
@@NinjaPiParadoxI've watched most of "Fashion mth" and aside from Ashley Graham in the Dolce & Gabbana show, she's in lingerie, the 2 other more well known plus models w/boobs, Paloma & Precious Lee truly are dressed horrid. Precious walked Versace and was put in a long sleeve button down and Paloma just looks like she's wearing a mumu. What's the point of plus sz inclusion if the clothing doesn't complement them? And heaven forbid, you have big boobs but are petite, unless you're super wealthy and can afford custom fitted clothing you're doomed to separates or never having anything fit properly.
You and Luke Marr (hautelemode on yt) are the only two critics whose videos I'll watch for these things. It's not about trashing aesthetics, it's about understanding haute couture and fashion history (luke) and construction (wendy). Loved the tier titles, I think we're entitled to a bit of sauce since these are high profile celebs who we can expect a bit more pizzazz from
I'm a knitter, and I'm pretty sure Doje Cat's dress is at least partially handknit. That kind of knitting takes a lot of time and a pretty high skill level to pull off.

Yeah, I'm looking at it, and the lace-like sections remind me of the traditional Shetland knitting style, it looks so fine and delicate too. The dress is more of a deconstruction of that, of course, it doesn't have any over the traditional patterns or anything, but it looks very similar.
I'm guessing they knitted small sections and attached them together? It looks like that to me, but I sew and embroider, I don't really knit, so I don't know a lot about knitting.
@@xXJokerAtWorkXx If you look up images of Shetland lace knit you'll find what is essentially lace like fabric, that is knit. While this dress clearly doesn't use any of the traditional patterns, it does look a lot like a big version of the lace knits. Especially if you zoom in on small sections it looks almost identical.

i would say also as a knitter, while it is time consuming knitwear is much easier to fit to a body, especially with a dress form, I work with knitting machines as well as hand knitting and I would say you could do the whole thing with a double bed machine. It's still worth a lot and a beautiful piece; it just doesnt require a lot of sewing and draping skill in comparison to corsetry and grommetting. However making your own textiles (in the form of kntting) should not be ignored as a skill and that definitely adds a lot to the value of a piece.
Can you imagine being one of the sewists who made one of the bottom-tier outfits, and watching it? like "YES SATIN *IS* HARD 😭"
I blame the designer not the people doing all the actual sewing. They just following instructions
as a stray kids fan - they deserved better outfits! they aren’t afraid of COLOR at all and would have rocked more interesting stuff. hyunjin (second from right) works with versace and felix (blonde center) is i believe an ambassador for louis vuitton. i’m not 100% sure those brands did their carpet outfits but i’m pretty sure they did their stage fits (which i loved)
Hyunjin was in Versace. They posted his outfit on thier instagram. But i also feel they just dressed for any regular old red carpet look. Hopefully if they come again it can be more playful.
I loved I.N.s look but I agree overall they could have been so much more interesting
this is an ongoing issue with their stylists tbh. it's incredibly rare to see even one member looking better than basic, even worse is it's clear that their stylists don't even bother finding the right sizes for some items. i've seen skz walk carpets with ill fitting shoes that they could step right out of at any moment. their stage outfits might be more interesting, but their carpet looks are just sad.
This might partially be because of time constraints - they went straight from their show in Japan to the airport, arrived in NY the day before the show, then spent most of the time before the show rehearsing etc. Not to mention their schedule in the weeks before the VMAs was packed too. Not much time for coming up with something really unique.
I'm curious to know how much say the stylists had on the outfits sent by LV and Versace and since the other 6 members were wearing 5 different designers as well I wonder how coordinating the group's red carpet look to be interesting yet still cohesive would have worked. Btw afaik HJ and Felix have only been wearing their respective ambassadorships' clothes for official public appearances.
Ohh I was waiting for your next reviews for sewing effort. I honestly don't follow award shows as much anymore, but its always fun to see what everyone is wearing!

i know EXACTLY the shiny/sequin-y dance recital fabric you're talking about at 20:57 !! i did a trapeze/ dance camp when i was younger and we made our own costumes and i have such a vivid memory of using that fabric omg

Not in a mean way but I would put every single one in the "this is why ratings are low category", there's not a single look that I felt excited about, that I wanted to replicate, everything felt like it could have come off of a shein-esque page 😔😞
I think a large part (for me at least) was also that a lot of those gowns didn't look like the fit the person wearing it. For example, Bebe Rexha's cups of her dress are sort of floating in front of her breasts. In a dress like that, the dress is typically worn without a bra, so the cups of the dress should fit like the cups of a bra should fit. In the abrathatfits groups that I'm in cups like these on a bra are referred to as boob hats. They do nothing to lift, or support, or even encase the breasts, they just sort of sit on top. Very firm tissue will sort of be squished by the cup, soft tissue will want to relax down, so commonly tugs the cups forward. If the dress/bra fits badly elsewhere it will pull forward and at that point you might as well wear nothing. To me it looks like Bebe is in the first category, her breasts seem sort of squished and compressed. That cannot be comfy, especially not in the long run. 🙁
It's sad that a lot of people will accept this kind of fit as okay, when it could be so much better, not just in comfort and support, but also in look. It won't look like your breasts are escaping, or if you've got quadboob, or as if you're not wearing anything if you're properly supported.
I don't even like Bebe all that much, her dress just stood out to me here, but she doesn't deserve this badly fitting dress.
The better clothing fits your body, the better it looks generally, and often also the more comfortable it is. Sadly, that also means it's much more expensive. That simple t-shirt those bilionaires are wearing? Yeah, that's a shirt made to fit them, or at the very least tailored after the fact, from more expensive/durable fibers than plain cotton shirts that become see through after 3 months. It's so sad that that is out of reach for most people.

stray kids usually doesn't have an aversion to colour.... their outfits are usually super playful. maybe they were going for a classier concept this time around since it was their first event like this. anyway, as a BIG skz fan (a stay) i also agree that their outfits could have been more interesting. they slayed, nevertheless!
i think that plus their schedule and that they were performing so it wasn't the only outfit they were wearing that night

I don’t really know where she’s from but I know in the Caribbean turtle as a motif is incredibly popular. I think you see it more than lace or cats in America if that says anything, if the object exists it probably has turtles on it

That first letherdress could been so nice even with butt freash airholes and real hoarse tial har if they acculy made it fit not only hips that was to big but boobs was 6 sizes to small. what is it with todays high fasion where nothing fits over boobs and the goal seem to be multible boos scenario or squished out in all directions?
THIS. the "cupseams circle" where a wire could be is sitting ON her boobs. IT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THAT edit: oh and same with megan thee stallions - I saw the wires sitting on her boobs and she has visible quadboob. Not at all all 'nicely fitted'
Yeah this is a pet peeve of mine - tops with bust lines or shaping sitting right on top of the bust instead of around - unfortunately Wendy's top is another example of this 😅
well the red carpet cloths I would expect more of then normal dailywere . those cloths was so many 1000 dolars type of cloths it can in some cases maybe buy a decent used car so @@Anna-pd6dc

Oooh. On Pink Panthress’ dress… It would have been so cool to repeat the grommets at the hem attaching the tulle at each grommet with a macrame-style, lark’s head knot in progressively longer sections such that the back tulle still forms a train.

With Olivia Rodrigo's dress, the reason why it was plain was probably to showcase the 150,000 Swarovski crystals- it wasn't just a pre-made fabric.
I had never heard of the VMAs until I started watching sewing TH-cam. I don’t really care about media about media. But as I get old fashion is more fun to think through as I can now imagine the construction.

I'm kind of surprised at how many of these dresses fit badly.
Like, the cups of Bebe Rexha's dress are not doing anything to hold her breasts, which in a dress like this should be their job. But instead of enveloping the breasts they sort of sit in front, like a boob hat, as it's known in the abrathatfits groups I'm in. They compress instead of hold, the edges of the cups are also sitting weirdly on top of her breasts as well, the cups are too small for her.
Or the dress on GloRilla, whose top strap shouldn't give her quadboob, it should fit her, but it doesn't. It cuts into her breast in a way that cannot be comfortable.
Even Megan Thee Stallion, whose dress otherwise fits her, has quadding, the cups look like they have wires that should lay flat on the skin all the way around her breasts, but here they're floating in front of her midriff, and they are sitting on top of her breasts instead of lying flat on the sternum. These cups are at the very least two cupsizes too small (possibly more), and I don't get it. This dress costs a lot of money, it looks like it was made for her, except for the cups. Which look like they were guestimated from 50 meters away and when they sort of hang in front of her boobs it's called good. Did they not fit her? What is going on?

The Mirror Palais dress did not fit her bust. I don't know who she is but she was sitting in front of Txt and the only reason why I noticed her is because she was constantly adjusting herself.
i think I pretty much agree with all of the ratings, only thing is I wouldve placed Taylor Swift's dress as Live Announcement (but I guess that's based on the look of the dress). Another fab video overall !! ✨💕

I'm old enough to remember when MTV was about music and music videos. Perhaps they need to find their way back to that and make the awards relevant again.
Yes I agree I was born in 89 so by the time started watching MTV they were heading away from music and toward “reality”. They had TRL but that’s was the only time music videos were relevant and they cut them short 😠 anyway. The award show would be relevant again if they regularly showed videos at some point. And maybe added a voting system again. Not need for a host but maybe 2 hours of videos

The reason fit is so terrible for red carpet events is that they often get the clothes last minute, there's very little time for alterations and when there's a red carpet event it's like every tailor in the LA area is booked working on it. Everyone remarking on the fact that so many dresses are poorly fitted in the bust: I think that's reflective of the fact that to get a proper fit in the bust for most people you have to have some customization even for a smaller bust and with larger busts forget about it. No fashion house makes clothes for bigger boobs. That Scaperelli "key hole dress was showing the whole underboob and I don't think it was supposed to. I think on the red carpet it didn't (of course probably on a much flatter chested model)...

I like you rapping about effort and effect. There have been so many times that I’ve put in 100% effort and afterwards thought to myself “no unfortunately this doesn’t reflect how hard I worked to make this.”
To the undiscerning/untrained eye a lot of fashion construction we take for granted is very hard. I thought the knot on Doja was probably going to be a lot of time because it’s hand made. I think just because of the material (matte white wide asymmetric knit) it was going to feel too informal. I get what she’s going for and it’s pretty but she also was one of the performances and together they felt very plain. Sure her suit was tailored in a pretty way, I think she did well, hope she’s okay (ten blood red backup dancers in underwear definitely says I’m upset and disturbed emotionally rn), but I think I got spoiled when Ariana Grande preformed God is a Woman in 2018. Not everyone can go that hard with that much costuming and visuals every time though. What specific performances stood out to everyone? No one year in particular.

Why would a show about music had low ratings for how the guests are dressed and not because people genuinely don't care? Same with the Oscars. People don't care about these type of awards shows anymore.
The people that i know who watched it was because of Taylor Swift and Stray Kids.
Since Han Kjøbenhavn is from Copenhagen, I believe the designer was just saying Han Copenhagen. Probably for it to be easier to say/understand for intl audiences
